That's an odd thing to be obsessed with. (And "it"? Really?!?)
A corpse? Kind of reaching here to look for an outrageous offense. We are talking about gender of a corpse.

Forget talking about guns, and start addressing the actual issues.

I don't think we can assume that just because this person was shooting up a school they are mentally ill.

But that's the problem, people suggest ideas appeal to people who have seen too many Steven Seagal movies and not reality.

The conversations from the US left are always magazine capacity restrictions, and "ban guns that look scary", and "banning XYZ type of ammo"...those are largely ineffective and irrelevant.

...and largely impossible in a country that has a gun culture.

This is what the US needs...but people need to understand that it's not going to be reflected in the statistics until 20 years from now (at the earliest). Trying to apply UK or Aussie gun control logic to the US is a fool's errand...those are nations that didn't have a deep gun culture. We need to apply the approach of another nation that had a gun culture, but managed to make it a safe one. Some on the US-left would be resistant to a gun control framework that still allowed people to have "the scary guns like AR-15's", but anything else isn't gonna pass.
See, this is more of what I was talking about - you jump immediately into what won't work. I replied to a user who came into the thread just to say "Taking guns won't work" when no one had said anything about taking guns, asking her if she had any constructive ideas on how to solve the problem at hand (i.e. mass shootings) rather than just talking about what won't work. It doesn't have to be gun legislation. It doesn't have to be legislation of any sort. I'm just trying to get people to have a constructive discussion.

And for the record, I've said many times over the years that I generally agree with you on using Czech gun laws as a framework to reform ours, but as you said, the changes won't be immediate, assuming we could even get people to agree on anything.

I thought we were talking about the sex of a person (now deceased). But, I'm not clear why it matters what their genotype was.

This has a lot more to do with mental health and societal problems than it does about guns

new gun laws give the impression that politicians are "doing something" about the violence. They aren't. Chicago had an outright handgun ban for decades, and some of the strictest gun laws and background checks in the country, and gun violence was epidemic.
Where did I say anything about new gun laws?

Mass shootings are clearly a problem in the US. What steps do you think we should take to solve that problem?

“Police have formally identified Nashville Christian school shooter as Audrey Elisabeth Hale, 28, a resident of Nashville and a transgender (a biological female who identified as He/Him (as male),” a reporter covering Chief John Drake’s press conference tweeted.
Apparently there still continues to be confusion.

That seems to be still up in the air. More evidence I've gathered points to a woman who had recently been identifying as a male.

If so, she identified as a male with far too much vigor.

How about just an X-ray of the pelvis?
That would work too I guess. DNA is foolproof though. Could be one of those females that presents male genitalia that would also present a male pelvis. A lot of those have been found at the Y, etc. ;)

We have a mental health crisis in this country. Wake up and address it!

Stop with the phone numbers, and start with the 24 hour outpatient facilities... Train more psychotherapists immediately.

We live in what I think is the most self obsessed, narcissistic time ever.

There's a lot of people who would rather wallow in nothing than try for mediocrity.

This younger generation has, unfortunately, their eyes on the most inflated lifestyles possible since the day they were born, live in relative comfort, and want wealth and fame for nothing.

This isn't some child from a struggling home. She went to a private Christian school. She went to art school. These are expensive endeavors that rarely pay off. She sounds like she was on the autism spectrum but "highly functional" often means that significant impairments are few. She came out as "trans" rather late....and while we can attribute that to her Christian upbringing, we shouldn't, because the number of otherwise gay women coming out as "trans" recently is not small. It could have been a fleeting phase or something struggled with lifelong.

We can never know, because we the public aren't allowed to read manifestos anymore (something I used to do just to gain some insight into these and various other cases). Regardless, she had something to say....and probably felt like shooting the school up would get it said. Perhaps bits and fragments are somewhere online, perhaps not.

It's just a tragedy now, motive a mystery, solutions impossible. I'm sure we'll hear some narrative curated version of what it was about from one side or the other but it's all going to be just that....politically motivated tripe.

I did. And, I don't see any burning need to know the sex chromosomes of the (now deceased) shooter. Does it some how explain what happened?

Wait until CNN finds the proper way to blame her parents or the school...or just guns in general.

It's probably a little fresh for them to do it just yet....

Then you'll have your opinion.

It was brought up. I addressed it. Why did it happen? Your guess is as good as mine at this point. Thanks for your interest though.
