  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Resignation of Eason JordanEdit

In February 2005, Eason Jordanresigned from CNN. The resignation came in response to controversy sparked after bloggers wrote that, at the recent World Economic Forum, Jordan had seemed to accuse the U.S. military of having purposely killed journalists. While Jordan acknowledged his remarks were not sufficiently clear, he denied that this was what he had meant to imply, saying that he had "great admiration and respect for the men and women of the U.S. armed forces".[64]

Jeff ZuckerEdit

CNN was criticized for its coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing, after erroneously reporting that a "dark-skinned male" had been arrested in connection with the attack.[65][66][67] In the aftermath of the broadcast, Jeff Zucker – who became president of CNN in 2013 – lauded the coverage, claiming BBBp that "CNN shined this week",[68] and boasted ratings success that CNN achieved during the coverage, adding that "viewers respected the network's accountability when it admitted its mistakes".[69] Comedian Jon Stewart criticized Zucker's comments after calling CNN's coverage of the Washington Navy Yard shooting"breathless wrongness", claiming that, "The lesson they take from this is – it doesn't matter how much they betray our trust. We'll keep coming back."[69]

In 2017, Vox described CNN as "treat[ing] politics like a sport" and stated that CNN under Jeff Zucker heavily uses debates to manufacture drama.[70]

Zucker resigned from CNN on February 2, 2022, after previously failing to disclose a romantic relationship with CNN executive Allison Gollust during an internal review into the conduct of former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.[71]Gollust also resigned upon the conclusion of the review later that month, after parent company WarnerMedia released a memo stating that she was one of three top figures that had "violated its official journalism standards and practices".[72]

Hosts and contributorsEdit

Brooke BaldwinEdit

During the 2015 Baltimore riots, CNN Newsroom host Brooke Baldwinsuggested that veterans were responsible for the unrest, saying soldiers who become police officers "are coming back from war, they don't know the communities, and they're ready to do battle". Baldwin initially pushed back critics, claiming she was just repeating something a city official had told her. She later apologized via Twitter and on-air.[73]

Jack CaffertyEdit

On the April 9, 2008 broadcast of CNN's The Situation Room, asked to comment on the United States' relationship with China, Cafferty responded: "I think they're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years".[74]The Legal Immigrant Association started an online petition calling for a formal apology, indicating that Cafferty's rant was anti-Chinese and had the effect of exacerbating negative attitudes held by Americans toward Chinese and Chinese Americans. On the April 14, 2008 broadcast of CNN's Situation Room, Jack Cafferty clarified his remarks: "Last week, during a discussion of the controversy surrounding China's hosting of the Olympic Games, I said that the Chinese are basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they have been for the last 50 years. I was referring to the Chinese government, and not to Chinese people or to Chinese Americans."[75] CNN issued a controversial apology on April 14, to "anyone who has interpreted the comments to be causing offense."[76]Not satisfied with CNN's response, several thousand demonstrators picketed CNN's Atlanta, Georgia[77] and Hollywood offices and demanded that CNN remove him from the network.[78]

A protest was held on April 26, 2008 in front of CNN headquarters in Atlanta.[79] On the same day, a few thousand Chinese and Chinese Americans protested in front of a CNN office in San Francisco. [80][81]

On May 15, 2008, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang, CNN President Jim Walton sent a letter to Zhou Wenzhong, Chinese ambassador to the United States: "On behalf of CNN I'd like to apologize to the Chinese people for that. CNN has the highest respect for Chinese people around the world and we have no doubt that there was genuine offense felt by them over the Jack Cafferty commentary."[82] CNN, however, denies that an apology to the Chinese government was ever made, stating that it was meant for the Chinese people alone.

Carol CostelloEdit

On October 22, 2014, CNN Newsroomhost Carol Costello reported on the audio release of Bristol Palin being assaulted by a man at a get-together in Alaska. Costello laughed and called it "quite possibly the best minute and a half of audio we've ever come across".[83] She was instantly criticized for making fun of a woman who was being physically abused by a man she did not know, as well as for being a hypocrite after recently calling for ESPN to suspend Stephen A. Smith after comments he made about women during the Ray Rice controversy. Costello eventually apologized in a statement to Politico, stating: "Over the past few days, I have been roundly criticized for joking about a brawl involving the Palin family. In retrospect, I deserve such criticism and would like to apologize."[84]

Chris CuomoEdit

Further information: Chris Cuomo § Andrew Cuomo coverage and termination from CNN
On November 30, 2021, broadcaster Chris Cuomo was suspended indefinitely after the New York Attorney General released new documents showing that he had helped his brother Andrew Cuomo battle sexual harassment allegations. CNN said in a statement that "these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we previously knew."[85][86] Four days later, CNN fired Cuomo after hiring a law firm to conduct a review of the matter.[87]

Don LemonEdit

In a June 2015 episode of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] with Marc Maron, then-President Barack Obama used the racial slur "[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]" while discussing racism in the United States, particularly in the wake of the then-recent Charleston church shooting in South Carolina.[88] On the June 22, 2015 broadcast of CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, host Don Lemon, in an apparent attempt to spark debate on the topic, held up the Confederate battle flag, and rhetorically asked the audience if they were offended; he then did the same with a large sign, with the aforementioned slur printed on it in large letters.[89]Lemon's actions received widespread mockery on social media, and spawned a meme wherein the content of the sign was edited to display various phrases or images, alongside a chyron that read "Does This Offend You?"[90][91]

On the February 16, 2023 broadcast of CNN This Morning, Lemon made disparaging remarks about Nikki Haley, who had announced her 2024 presidential campaign two days earlier. Lemon claimed that Haley, who was 51 years old at the time, "isn't in her prime", adding that "[a] woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s and 30s and maybe 40s. If you Google ‘when is a woman in her prime,’ it’ll say 20s, 30s and 40s." When co-host Poppy Harlow challenged his statements, Lemon told her to "look it up."[92] Amid a public outcry, Lemon tweeted that afternoon that his comments were "inartful and irrelevant, as colleagues and loved ones have pointed out, and I regret it." He was absent from the February 17 broadcast, and called into a CNN staff meeting that day to apologize for his comments.[93] CNN chairman and CEO Chris Lichtstated during the same meeting that he was "disappointed" by Lemon's comments, describing them as "upsetting, unacceptable and unfair to his co-hosts, and ultimately a huge distraction to the great work of this organization."[94] In a February 17 interview with Fox News, Haley dismissed Lemon's comments, saying they were "something that I have faced all of my life," and attributed them to her status as "a minority, conservative, female".[95] On February 19, 2023, The Daily Beast reported that Lemon would again be absent from CNN This Morning the following day, February 20; a source told the site that there were "ongoing conversations about Don's future," and that Lemon was "a constant distraction."[96]

Fredricka WhitfieldEdit

Further information: 2015 attack on Dallas police
On June 13, 2015, while discussing the 2015 attack on the Dallas police headquarters, host Fredricka Whitfieldreferred to the gunman, James Boulware, as "courageous and brave, if not crazy". The comment received immediate backlash and calls for her to apologize. The next day, Whitfield stated on air that she misspoke and in no way believed the gunman was courageous or brave.[97] After the backlash continued, she issued another on-air apology on June 15, saying she terribly misused those words, now understood how offensive it was and was sincerely sorry.[98][99I Just a few.

Well, Chansley had an escort of 2 officers. If he was the big problem people made him out to be, then he could have been easily taken into custody by the 7 other officers he passed by.
Sure, if Chansley had been by himself, then yes, he could easily have been taken into custody. However, there were 2,500 other rioters along with Chansley.

Carlson showed approximately 4 minutes of the encounter ....with the audio conveniently turned off.

Perhaps the biggest lie was that Trump colluded with Russia to steal an election, which turned out was just lies from the Clinton campaign. Talk about a BIG LIE denying election results and claiming your opponent stole the election is right up there with Trump's lies. Yet, someone Democrats pretend they're all morally superior and don't do that sort of thing for themselves. Yet, every Democrat in here was 100% sure Trump colluded and was going to jail for it because they believed the media's lies.
It would help your credibility if you did not make fantastical claims on things you are incapable of knowing.

The Durham probe? Please tell me you don't actually think this is evidence?

Here's a nice article from The Washington Times, picked up by Real Clear Politics on the 10 biggest lies told by Democrats and the MSM:

Wait. I thought the MSM all told lies? If they all tell lies and are not to be trusted why are you using them as a source?

There are lots more here: Democrats’ disgraceful lies keep on giving

It's clear the vast majority of media outlets are in the pocket of the Democrat party and frame things the way they want them framed. The fact that you cannot even see the liberal bias in media speaks volumes about the average Democrat voter who just hears these lies constantly and instantly believes them because it fits the narrative they want to believe.
So your claim is that AT&T, CBS, Comcast, Disney, Newscorp and Viacom are all owned and controlled by Democrats? Pull the other one.

CNN and Fox have accused each other of lying. CNN's long history of pushing disinformation, here are five examples
OK. In each of those examples they got pushed back. There was no uncritical acceptance and there was accountability, yes? I'm not saying media is blameless, but to substantiate the claim that they lie incessantly and the left simply accepts it your going to need a lot lot of evidence and it should show how it is accepted.

Yup... the "Russian Collusion," and "Insurrection" are bogus fantasies made up by obsessed Trump haters. He made all these professional politicians in the swamp look like fools and they are out to get him at all costs. The invented Russian Collusion has been proven to be a total hoax and the "Insurrection" bologna is following close behind.
I don't even follow it any more. Malarky. At this point it is good for a laugh... pure entertainment.

I think your assuming her intent... without evidence. That is called speculation.
I don't have to assume anything; the intent of the mob of which she was a part were shouting how they wanted to kill Pence.

But it would seem that in the interest of painting Trump supporters as villains, the cop was cleared of any wrongdoing.
In other words, the cop is innocent, having protected the lives of the elected officials the mob were trying to assassinate.
Cops serving at the Capitol--the building declared by some to be sacred, and the seat of democracy itself, should be held to at least the normal standard for the requirements of using deadly force when they kill people.
I expect that when someone is leading an angry mob trying to assassinate elected officials, the cops will do their job. This one did.

When you're trying to assassinate elected officials, you find out what those standards are pretty quickly.
Not going to argue with you because you don’t know what you’re talking about and it will just be a waste of time

Both are well-documented, as has been previously established.

Oh, but I do know. I've listened to the audio of the mob shouting about how they wanted to kill Pence. At that point, Pence didn't even trust his life with Secret Service agents assigned to Trump, and he refused to ride with them.

I guess you missed my prior post documenting how Trump colluded with Russia. And then handing out pardons to cover his tracks.
