Was this directed at me, J Mick? Since you didn't use the quote function to specify to whom you're intending your response, I can't tell. It just looks like a post and unless I had been reviewing this page and accidentally come across it, I would have never seen it.

TWO THINGS FOR YOU TO PONDER:

1) You don't get to tell ME "how" I have to do "Christianity." Not unless you have some MIGHTY, MIGHTY Hermeneutical and Historical wisdom and knowledge you're going to throw at me. And most Christians don't have that!

2) The academic world has moved on and fundamentalist Christians are floundering in the dark, unable to address the issues that are now here and have been already presented by the world for some time in opposition to the Bible. Simply taking the stance of "The Bible says it, and I believe it!" is not only naive, it shows a lack of sensibility and awareness for the world we're actually in today.

And, what's more, however much Christians may protest----and by golly they love to protest---- we don't actually get to "do Christianity" in a bubble. We can pretend like we do, though...

TIME TO WAKE UP FROM YOUR SLUMBER, FELLOW CHRISTIANS!

What you hear and understand of the Gospel determines what you believe, and how much faith can grow from whatever seed is planted.
I dunno, it seems more like "what one believes determines what you hear and understand of the Gospel".

I did ask intent?
By Asking why he intentionally misquoted me?
not interested in the Trolling and will not continue playing these games

Depends on if that individual is Christian and Chinese which case those 'ethics' would still be Christian,
Elsewise those 'ethics' would still likely be secular.

May the LORD Bless You and Keep You,
Good Bye.
Good on you J

No, what I'm saying is the "house is burning down",
Best to correct someone whos in err than to let them remain in it
The problem with that analogy is that God could have made an unburndownable house. Or at least installed an fire extinguisher.

Oh, oh.

Someone's having a hissy fit.

I'd hate to see this thread, with 3500 posts in it, shut down.
I'm beginning to think this whole thread is full of insincerity. Way to go defending the Christian faith...it's no wonder the secular world thinks there is no God but man.

He did, in this case it's called the 'Gospels' as written in the Bible?

James 4:4. Are you meaning to quote a Scripture at me that even Martin Luther didn't think was sanctified?

(I mean, I do. I love the letter by James. It has always meant a lot to me.)

Pipp. I've been on this website for years, "defending" the our mutual Christian faith. It's just that I'm not going to do it Fundamenalist style.

Stop expecting it to be. The Lord purposely didn't give us comprehensive knowledge of all things through His Church and thereby through the thing the Church has hobbled together --- however authoritatively it has done so as an after effect from what the Apostles did, said and left to future disciples --- and called the New Testament.

My faith doesn't have to be any different or require more than that of a Christian who lived in, say, A.D. 43. (I call this my "A.D. 43 test for faith...") :) Fortunately, I do have more info to go on though. A whole lot more.

So why did he build a house that would need a fire extinguisher? According to be Bible God put into the flammable house of Eden an electrical device that if touched would set fire to the house. And he knew that this would cause Eve to touch it and set fire to the house. The Gospel would not be needed if God had not added that little electrical device- but he chose to do so knowing full well what would happen.

Pipp, that's partially correct. But don't challenge me unless you're willing to take up the gauntlet of education. Because, I will educate you.
The only education I need on scripture comes from God. You seem to intermingle your theology with worldliness, just looking at your profile alone, shows that.

I'm no longer going to live the rest of my life waiting for fellow Christians to get a clue so we can have peace with each other.
Bending over backwards to accommodate and apologise for the attacks of atheists is not what Jesus meant by "love thy enemies". You're supposed to defend and share the Gospel as a Christian, not deny it's significance.

And anyone, even you, can claim to be a Christian and go around poking others in the eye with your zeal. I appreciate your zeal, but don't try to shine your newly lit light into my face. I already have the Light.
Just because you believe me to be a "newbie" to faith, doesn't mean you're seasoned. Being seasoned requires saltiness. Have you misunderstood scripture? You didn't answer my question on the significance of the cross either. Do you know we Christians are meant to deny our own image for the sake of Christ's? Jesus was "a man of no reputation", are you? Unlike some, I'm not willing to water down Gods truth for the sake of the world around me.

Seems like a lack of sincerity on both sides here, definitely no place for me. Hopefully you consider my words, and ask God in prayer to help you see his truth clearly.

GOD is a GOD of Truth, Period.
people can debate over scripture all they want but in the end,
it doesn't change the fact that those who wrote it were Guided by the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of Truth,
Now trying to disclaim Genesis 1 by calling it a myth because it doesn't coincide with 'secular' knowledge is folly.

for the same reason you can ask these questions,
Because He's Holy and a GOD of Love,
So he Gave mankind Free will.

James, Jesus brother, didn't believe in Him at first.

John 7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

But later wrote a letter to the twelve tribes talking about how you can spot a Christian a mile away.

What do you supposed happened that changed his mind?

Don't you think they would have eventually sinned some other way?

The only education I need on scripture comes from God. You seem to intermingle your theology with worldliness, just looking at your profile alone, shows that.
And who are you to judge me? I don't do that to you. You don't see me poking you in the eye and depreciating the value of your faith in Christ, do you? NO. YOU DON'T!

I think your definition of "worldliness" needs some realignment and refinement.
Bending over backwards to accommodate and apologise for the attacks of atheists is not what Jesus meant by "love thy enemies". You're supposed to defend and share the Gospel as a Christian, not deny it's significance.
I'm not accomodating anyone, least of all, atheists. I used to harangue atheists all the time when the Philosophy and Christian Apologetics sections were open. At the same time, I've read what I've read, starting with Descartes and Pascal, all the way up to and through both many Christian theologians and philosophers of today.........................and a lot of atheists.

So, stop the deprecating. I'm not here to judge you. I'm here to help clarify or explore the Christian faith. I can be your greatest ally or your greatest challenger. It's anyone's choice. CHOOSE!
Just because you believe me to be a "newbie" to faith, doesn't mean you're seasoned. Being seasoned requires saltiness. Have you misunderstood scripture?
I'm very sure I haven't misunderstood scripture. Have you ever studied Biblical Hermeneutics and Exegesis in any depth?

You didn't answer my question on the significance of the cross either. Do you know we Christians are meant to deny our own image for the sake of Christ's? Jesus was "a man of no reputation", are you? Unlike some, I'm not willing to water down Gods truth for the sake of the world around me.
No reputation? Then every Christian should just "deny themselves" and shut their little mouths and live in silence. That'd take care of that for all of us, wouldn't it? No one needs a philosopher to make anyone think, then, right? Of course, if that's the case, and silence is golden, then no one needs a prophet of God either.

Again, just stop it. I've studied the Bible inside and out, like many. I also have two degrees and have been studying theology for 30 plus years, with a year of Bible College thrown in early on. So, again, it's your choice to either facepalm me, or see me as a fellow brother in Christ. The latter of these choices is what I do for you.
Seems like a lack of sincerity on both sides here, definitely no place for me. Hopefully you consider my words, and ask God in prayer to help you see his truth clearly.

Have you ever read C.S. Lewis,' The Screwtape Letters? Lewis has a chapter in there about how Christians might have false expectations about the kind of people we Christians think we're "supposed" to see sitting in the pews at our local churches. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it.

Wow... I don't need to respond to that long-winded and self-justifying post when you clearly took my words to be an insult to you personally and not a simple observation to get you to think about your understanding of the cross. You obviously have no understanding of what dying to the flesh actually means because you spend more time speaking about yourself than you do about God or the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's the reason "Christianity" is in the state it's in today. Goodbye @2PhiloVoid
