Is there an Atheist preference for the Democratic party going on here?

My father was an athiest and almost always voted Republican. But that was back when the Republican party was conservative rather than radical right Christian. In some ways it is better that he died before the Republican party became what it is today.

These days it is NOT that athiests are Democrats, it is that they are anything except Republican. In close races that often translates to voting for the Democrat, at least after the primaries.

That's literally the meaning of big tent in this context.

"a political party's policy of permitting or encouraging a broad spectrum of views among its members."

Then it's definitely not a big tent.

You're tent tries to get anyone with differing views fired. There's a lot of feigned ideological conformity under that tent.

Depends upon why they're an atheist really.

True. I don't want the government involved in religion. I may not like their version.
Congratulations!

You now understand the position of Muslims, jews, atheists and many others.

Those who are religious are generally conservative.

Let's face it, how many times do we hear the argument that something written two thousand years ago at a time when science didn't exist, the whole world comprised a few thousand square miles of the middle east, education was limited to a tiny proportion of the population, hardly anyone could read or write and superstition was the norm...that it should determine what all of us (not just those of a specific religion) should do.

So to me, religion was represented by those who wanted things to remain the same. It looked backward. Not forward.

And I grew up in the sixties when a lot of us realised that we didn't necessarily have to follow in the exact footsteps of our parents. That there were better ways of doing things. That my working class roots would not determine my future. But political conservatism was determined to maintain the hierarchy. They wanted things to stay the same.

So they were both on the wrong side of the fence for me from quite a young age. They represented everything I thought was wrong with the world. And age may have mellowed me somewhat, but the angry young man is still in there.

Most of your positions aren't based on science or liberal principles or anything like that.

It's mostly just peer group conformity.

Congratulations!

You now understand the position of Muslims

Generally speaking, Muslims believe in a 1 world caliphate where all non abrahamic religions are outlawed and Judaism and Christianity are subjugated.

And how is that working out for the country?

Great! Thanks for asking. The workers rose up against the proletariat, stormed the barricades and took Diderot's advice.

Well, it didn't happen exactly like that. But the people have more say in what goes on (Yaay for democracy) and the church a lot less.

If that means 'agreeing with other people that you think are right' then that doesn't really exclude many of us, does it...

I'm going to take a shot in the dark here: Maybe 'cos they haven't been convinced that gods exist. Your mileage may vary.

No way am I blaming the church (you say 'the church' so I presume you are Catholic). The problems that your country has (and in my not so humble opinion, it has a lot), is down to the fact that the country is divided. And I mean seriously divided. Religion isn't the cause but it certainly doesn't help. Because religion is likewise divided. And into so many denominations that it's possible to list.

I notice a lot of "every tiny little thing" topics popping up of the form "GOP did this or that which I do not approve of" or "GOP did not win on this xyz issue in one state that I found"...

Is there some sort of "if GOP loses something then atheists win" argument to be had??

When atheists pry people loose from Christianity where do they go? They end up gravitating over to the religion of atheists - the religion of equality, aka Church of Woke. And who supports the Church of Woke the most? Well, the Democrat party.

Atheists win when the Church of Woke wins, and that means a loss for the GOP.

The Church of Woke is the equivalent of putting out all fires in the forest. We can all see how superior this policy really is, until 100 years later when everything burns down to the ground. Sometimes it takes a lot less than 100 years for the true genius to appear. In Venezuela cracks started to appear after only 20 years.

Interesting that no actual non-believers are members of this made up organization.
Perhaps one of there reasons that they are underrepresented in the GOP is that they're less likely to fall for falsehoods like this?

The Republican Party is only a name for those who agree on many ideas. Christians usually vote Republican because their ideas(platform), is much closer to the platform of God, as described in the Bible, than is the platform(ideas) of the Democrats.
That has more to do with specifically North American notions about the bible than any kind objectively definable ‘platform of God’.

What is God's platform?
