Here is my timeline and dates for Daniels 70-weeks prophecy.

Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city… Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks …
And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; … he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined is poured out on the desolate.” (Daniel 9:24-27 NKJV abbrev.)

daniels-70-weeks.png

As you can see, I have it starting 457 BC date being Artaxerxes' 7th year. However, there have been no small number of differences when it comes to the terminus a quo of Daniels weeks. Some say the first year of Cyrus in 538 BC. Others say Darius (520 BC) Still others, Artaxerxes' 20th year (444 BC)

As if that wasn’t as all over the place enough, the crucifixion of Jesus – the high point of the prophecy – has ranged from AD 29 to AD 33!

We could do without the muddle and, as you can see, the diagram shows exactly 7 + 62 + ½ weeks from the emperor’s decree until the cross. Let’s discuss.

What is the point about 70AD? Is that more important than the Second Coming?

From my calculations, Artaxerxes decree came on March 13, 444 BC. The first 69 weeks of the 70 weeks is equivalent to 483 years (at 360 days per year) which places Jesus' crucifixion on Friday April 3rd, 33 AD on a Nisan 15 (Passover full moon).
The final week of the 70 weeks will not begin until January 20th 2069 (the Antichrist's 2nd inauguration as President of the USA).

The 7 +62 weeks unto messiah.

After 62 weeks messiah cutoff. Not after 62 + 1/2 week - not in the text.

__________________________________________________

7 + 62 weeks unto messiah - In John 12:12-15, Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, hailed as the messiah, King of Israel coming in the name of the Lord

After 62 weeks messiah cutoff - 4 days later, Jesus was crucified.

_________________________________________________

Vision of the time of the end little horn's 2300 days is not on the chart - and cannot be on a chart that ends in 70 ad.

Sealing up the vision of the little horn person is one of things that the 70 weeks are determined for.

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

The vision is that of the little horn person, time of the end, and the 2300 days involving him. Prophecy includes prophecies about the messiah. Which the 70 weeks end with Jesus's return.

little horn person will be the prince who shall come. Who then becomes the Antichrist. Who then becomes the beast.

Are you aware that the ‘360-day’ theory only began in 1898 with the writing of Sir Robert Anderson? It is problematic because early Jewish writers understood Daniel’s ‘weeks’ to be the regular sabbath year cycles established by Moses. If they were a different system, it would mean there were two separate 7-year cycles operating alongside but out of sync with each other.

Daniel seals the book until the time of the end... we are now in the time of the end.
Why would God allow the Bible to be filled with prophecy, but not want us to know what these prophecies mean?
In Revelation 10, we are told of an angel and a little book. This little book contains the translation of the biblical prophecies of the future. This will allow those of Godly nature in the future to avoid the cataclysms that will befall the Earth.

There are many time durations in the Bible. Our calendar is mired with odd numbers (days per month differ, length of a year is 365.25 days ...), in order to cut through this, there are what I call holy of biblical units of time, eg: one holy year is comprised of 12 x 30 day months. It simplifies calculations.
You probably have noticed that 1260 days, 42 (30 day months) and 3 and one half years are equivalent lengths of time in the Bible.

I totally agree on the 457 BC starting date for the decree of Artaxerxes, which was a continuation of and completion of Cyrus' original decree. The temple was built right away by Zerubbabel, but the completion of the city didn't take place until after Ezra and Nehemiah continued in a more complete restoration of temple worship, and Artaxerxes determined to allow a complete rebuilding of the city of Jerusalem.

This takes us to the 3.5 year earthly ministry of Jesus, and ends with his being "cut off." Our only point of difference may be the idea that 3.5 years remained to be fulfilled to complete the 70th Week. But I see no need for the 70th Week to be a complete week, since the 70 Weeks were fulfilled in the cutting off of the Messiah in the 70th Week.

The prophecy indicated that a "ruler to come" would direct his people, an army, to destroy Jerusalem and the temple. This would be the "abomination of desolation," in my understanding. That's how the Church Fathers saw it, and that's how I see it.

I'm not a Preterist, but I do believe the Preterists are right that at least half of the Olivet Discourse had to do with the Roman Army being the AoD in 66-70 AD, leading to the destruction of the city and the sanctuary. This would lead to an age-long experience of Jewish Punishment, to precede their final restoration at the 2nd Coming of Christ.

Just sharing, brother! ;)

We have to start counting from Cyrus. God said it's Cyrus in the book of Isaiah.

“It is I who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd!
And he will perform all My desire.’
And he declares of Jerusalem, ‘She will be built,’
And of the temple, ‘Your foundation will be laid.’”

Thus says the Lord to Cyrus His anointed,
Whom I have taken by the right hand,
To subdue nations before him
And to loose the loins of kings;
To open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:
— Isaiah 44:28 - 45:1 (nasb)

Also in2 Chronicles

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia—in order to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah—the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he sent a proclamation throughout his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all His people, may the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up!’”
— 2 Chronicles 36:22-23

Give me one verse that states Artaxerxes declared the building of Jerusalem or the wall. All decrees were centered around the Temple. The very first decree of Cyrus allowed 42,360 Jews to return and rebuild their cities.

"The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,
So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities."

How could they live in a city that was not rebuilt?

Both Ezra and Nehemiah talk about the Temple as the central theme of rebuilding. Yes Nehemiah built up the wall. All on his own in secret. He let the chips fall as they may as a result. Nehemiah 2:8

"And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me."

This was not a decree. It was permission for timber to build the palace and gates. Ezra 7:11-16

"Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the Lord, and of his statutes to Israel. Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time. I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee. Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand; And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem, And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:"

Still not about Jerusalem and the walls thereof. Still only about the Temple.

Cyrus gave the original decree to restore all cities and to live in them. The walls were neglected, so Nehemiah built them at night.

I used to think that the 70th week of Daniel was in the future, however I now see the greater evidence being that the 70th week was completed about three and one half years after Christ resurrection. So there is no seven years of tribulation, no Jews building a Temple of God, and no seven year agreement between the Jews and the Antichrist, and for certain no pre-trib rapture. I do see a coming tribulation followed by the gathering of the church.

Great diagram,

70 weeks were decreed for Daniels people, so the remaining half a week are attributed to the disciples confirmation of the ministry of reconciliation to them with signs and wonders,.... then the Gospel went into all the world.

Act 13
38 Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses. 40 Therefore, see that the thing spoken of in the Prophets does not come upon you:

41 ‘Look, you scoffers, and be astonished, and perish;
For I am accomplishing a work in your days,
A work which you will never believe, though someone should describe it to you.’”

42 As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people repeatedly begged to have these things spoken to them the next Sabbath. 43 Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and the God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking to them and urging them to continue in the grace of God.

Paul Turns to the Gentiles
44 The next Sabbath nearly all the city assembled to hear the word of the Lord. 45 But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were blaspheming. 46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you repudiate it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles. 47 For so the Lord has commanded us,

‘I have appointed You as a light to the Gentiles,
That You may bring salvation to the end of the earth.’”

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and all who had been appointed to eternal life believed. 49 And the word of the Lord was being spread through the whole region.

The 7 +62 weeks unto messiah.

After 62 weeks messiah cutoff. Not after 62 + 1/2 week - not in the text.
After 62 weeks + 4 days is also not specifically stated in the text. Glad we have established this.

What is the point about 70AD? Is that more important than the Second Coming?
The point about 70 AD is obviously to show when the city and the sanctuary were destroyed. Did he say, or even remotely hint at the idea, that 70 AD is more important than the second coming? No. So, why ask that question?

Thanks for saying that SJ. Tim is probably trying to pin the preterist handle on us but it wont stick.

Others ask, “How can the 70th week stretch over forty years to include the events of Christ’s ministry as well as the destruction of Jerusalem?” The answer is quite simple. The fall of Jerusalem and destruction of the temple did not take place within the actual seventy weeks; the prophet was simply providing information of the aftermath to the weeks in order to explain what the eventual outcome would be.

Amen to that.
What the text clearly states is that Messiah will be revealed AFTER 7 AND 62 WEEKS. ( 69 WEEKS)

25 So you are to know and understand that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until Messiah the Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;

He obviously accomplished his work that he was sent to do after the 69 weeks....in the midst of the final week when his blood was shed for the sins of the WHOLE world.
Complete atonement and everlasting righteousness for those who believe are on a rock solid foundation of grace that is forever sufficient for them.

The smallest unit is weeks (7 years) and half weeks ( 3 1/2 years). So 4 days is negligible a 7 years timeframe, as being .00158 of 7years.

The destruction of the temple and and city took place after the messiah was cutoff in verse 26.

There is an undefined amount of time gap between the messiah cutoff and the prince who shall come confirming the covenant with many for the 70th week.

CG, your timeline does not show, because it is wrong, the sealing up of the prophecy about the time of the end little horn. The vision referenced in Daniel 9:21-24. Was not sealed up by 34 AD.

The events of that vision are still forthcoming.
