Actually this state already has strict gun laws yet this happened.

If the walls of the room are on fire then it's reasonable to expect the ceiling will be damaged.

Just because there's localised gun control doesn't mean the sheer volume and accessibility to firearms surrounding that area won't play a role.

In some places it sounds like the 4th of July all the time.

I imagine that will be the majority of the country when I'm an old man. That's probably how I'll cope with the new ambience.

The Supreme Court just invalidated a law that inspired mayors of NY, Chicago, and other cities to meet to try to figure out what they could do to protect lives in their cities after a misguided, decidedly pro-death decision.

guns are not the problem it's PEOPLE. A gun does nothing by itself it is the person behind that trigger. In my rural area pretty much everyone has at least one firearm and yet we go weeks with no arrests being made for a crime that has ANYTHING to do with guns or violence. Like literally this pass week we had someone in there for rape we see that kind of crime here maybe once every three months. Do we have serious crimes every now and then yes, but most people know you pull violence in this county there is about an 80% or better chance that you will be shot. GA also recently passed permitless carry that applies to any person 21+ that is otherwise legally permitted to own a gun whether a resident of this state or not.

He deserves the death penalty. And I hope they catch him alive so he can suffer before his death.
I am almost certain IL does not have the death penalty to give him.

Well is it not true? I could have a gun sitting on this desk for 50 years and nothing would happen until I took action same with a knife a rock or anything else.

but the point is that people who knowingly break the law would not care what kind of laws you had they would do it anyway.
Yes, but if there were uniformed laws, then both the person buying the gun and the dealer would have to intentionally break the law.

And the ease with which one could kill a large number of people is of course no different if one is using a rifle or rock to do so.

I know, just look at all those mass rockings we have endured and I am sure people would be told to shelter in place if he was on the loose armed with a sack of rocks.

it's a lot easier to run away from a knife or a rock, much harder when the gun fires at a insane rate or range.
and again the people who would do things like this would either get a gun one way or another or find another method to kill a lot of people guns are not the only way.

Right...okay tell me you take away guns, what other conveniently fast and easy, and reusable method would you suggest? Only thing I can think of is bombs, but funny how there is far far less mass bombings vs shootings.

Just like in Uvalde where shooter got the gun when he wanted it, no, wait, he only managed to get it when he was legally able to despite trying to do so before he was legally allowed to buy them.

or find another method to kill a lot of people guns are not the only way.

As we know all methods of mass killing are of the same difficulty to pull off. People just used guns for no reason, rocks do just as well.

Unsurprising given the conservative Supreme Court's putting down the welcome mat for more and more dangerous weapons in our cities.
Why are states permitted to pass abortion restrictions when states with large urban populations who need stricter gun laws can't?

Based on the details of the case, it doesn't sound like the supreme court ruling had anything to do with this one.

That ruling was pertaining to New York's "may issue" concealed weapons permit policy.

The ruling was portrayed as "this means everyone can start packing heat like the old west!" by some outlets, but that wasn't actually the case. The recent ruling just meant that issuing authorities for those permits can't discriminate or deny applications for arbitrary reasons if the person has already paid for the application fee and met all of the testing/training criteria.

Guns are certainly the most effective means for that sort of nefarious behavior (anyone who deflects by saying otherwise is dodging).

I'm okay with some reasonable restrictions, but what I'd like to see is a gun control policy with a limiting principle.

If someone made a policy that resembled what the Czech Republic had (which is actually quite permissive for an EU country), I'd be okay with that.

But what I wouldn't want to see is a policy that starts with gun restrictions, and progresses to something like the "knife ban" in London.

You've gotta leave people with some sort of "equalizer" availability. If there's a guy who's 6'5" 250lbs and a lot stronger than I am, I don't want my ability to secure myself and property contingent on how well I'd do against him in a wrestling match or fist fight...and I certainly have no intention of being left with the choice of handing over my wallet or taking a beating and filing a police report later after I'm done getting stitches at the UrgentCare.
