It's been confirmed that 6 people have died and at least 24 have been injured and are being treated at hospitals in the area. The gunman hasn't been located and a search for him continues. This information is from an ongoing press conference.

Unsurprising given the conservative Supreme Court's putting down the welcome mat for more and more dangerous weapons in our cities.
Why are states permitted to pass abortion restrictions when states with large urban populations who need stricter gun laws can't?

Because the right to abort has not been enshrined in the US constitution, unlike the right to bear a firearm.

Well-regulated is a part of that amendment and I believe that all of the gun decisions of the past 40 years were incorrect.
The Federalist Society bided its time, financed by the NRA, and put their puppets in place. There is a reason why only 23% of Americans respect the current Supreme Court. Even that is unacceptably high.

Actually this state already has strict gun laws yet this happened.

And it's surrounded by states with some of the most relaxed gun laws in the country. This is a perfect example of why we need uniform gun laws on the federal level. Background checks, licensing, registration, training, etc..

Indeed. And looser gun laws would definitely not have helped, as it appears the shooter was sniping from a rooftop. The presence of civilians with guns out trying to take out the shooter would have led to even more tragedy.

but if I buy a gun legally in GA say just because it was PURCHASED legally in GA does not mean it is legal in other states. This means that people that do that sort of thing are still breaking the law and if doing so knowingly do not care.

so are you suggesting that it would have been the case that had this happened in any number of states ( I believe it is 24 as I am typing this who have permitless carry there would have certainly been more death?

Let's say that federal law required universal background checks, red flag laws to take guns away from the mentally ill, domestic abusers, and child abusers; raise the age to buy a gun to 21, have a ten day waiting period, and require firearms training, registration and licensing; and federal law banned assault type weapons and high capacity magazines. If that were the case, then it wouldn't matter so much which state a gun is purchased, the law would apply to all 50 states equally. Some states may choose to be more restrictive than the federal law, but they wouldn't be able to choose to be less restrictive.

No. But there definitely would be an increased risk of the police challenging the wrong person, with possible fatal consequences.

but the point is that people who knowingly break the law would not care what kind of laws you had they would do it anyway.

maybe so IF the people did not do it right. When the police arrive if you are not the one involved drop your weapon or put it back on your person. Not doing THAT is how people get killed.
