In one clip from an interview with Trump on March 2021 at Mar-a-Lago [conducted by documentarian Alex Holder], the former President is asked directly about what happened on January 6.

"Well, it was a sad day, but it was a day where there was great anger in our country, and people went to Washington primarily because they were angry with an election they think was rigged," Trump said.

"A very small portion, as you know, went down to the Capitol, and then a very small portion of them went in," Trump continued. "But I will tell you they were angry from the standpoint of what happened in the election, because they're smart, and they see, and they saw what happened. And I believe that was a big part of what happened on January 6."

Feds search home of Jeffrey Clark, former DOJ official who pushed Trump's false election fraud claims

Federal investigators on Wednesday conducted a search of the home of former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark, people briefed on the matter tell CNN.

Clark is the former DOJ lawyer who former President Donald Trump sought to install as attorney general in the days before the January 6 Capitol riot as top officials refused to go along with his vote fraud claims.

Clark also promoted conspiracy theories within the Justice Department, such as that Chinese spies used thermometers to tamper with US voting machines, according to internal emails made public in a Senate Judiciary Committee 2021 report.

FBI: Naval reservist said he stormed Capitol with Proud Boys

WASHINGTON (AP) — Speed told the undercover agent that going to the Capitol on Jan. 6 “was always the plan” and said he went there with friends who were Proud Boys members, the filing says.

(lots of good/horrifying details in the article about his views.)

U.S. broadens Jan. 6 seditious conspiracy indictment of Oath Keepers
Fla. member Jeremy Brown, retired Special Forces soldier an ex-GOP congressional candidate, also says he expects to face conspiracy charge

U.S. prosecutors have broadened a seditious conspiracy charge against Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and eight co-defendants, filing an amended indictment Thursday that alleges the group conspired to use force to oppose the authority of the federal government as well as to oppose the lawful transfer of power to President Biden in attacking the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The superseding indictment, returned by a grand jury Wednesday, adds a second prong by which prosecutors can ask a jury to find Rhodes and accused co-conspirators guilty at a trial set for Sept. 26. Charging papers allege that the group coordinated travel, equipment and firearms and stashed weapons outside Washington, ready “to answer Rhodes’ call to take up arms at Rhodes’ direction.”

“They are building a case adding me to the seditious conspiracy case,” said Brown, who was arrested in September on misdemeanor counts in Washington of trespassing and disorderly conduct on restricted Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, and also charged federal felony charges in Florida of possessing unregistered explosive grenades, firearms, 8,000 rounds of ammunition and classified documents at his home in Tampa.

It very much sounds as if Brown was what the IRA called a 'quartermaster'. That is, responsible for providing the weapons and explosives for the troops. When you've got stuff like that in the shed the 'just a tourist' defence looks rather thin.

A Sixth Public Hearing is ongoing right now, with Cassidy Hutchingson, aide to former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, testifying.

Cassidy Hutchinson, Trump White House aide, now in spotlight

One of the more shocking lines from the hearing so far:
As Mr. Giuliani and I were walking to his vehicle that evening, he looked at me and said something to the effect of 'Cass, are you excited for the sixth? It's going to be a great day.' I remember looking at him and saying, 'Rudy, can you explain what's happening on the sixth?' And he responded something to the effect of 'we're going to the Capitol. It's going to be great. The President's going to be there. He's going to look powerful. He's going to be with the members. He's going to be with the senators. Talk to the chief about it. Talk to the chief about it. He knows about it.

How long before someone begins the task of smearing Cassidy Hutchinson?
Conservatives will have their Trump-approved smear lines before the end of the day.
I'm worried about her safety, with the threats that constantly seem to come to anyone willing to testify against Trump.

California Man Who Questioned the Existence of Ashli Babbitt Gets Jail Time for Jan. 6 Capitol Breach
Philip James Weisbecker, 51, had pleaded guilty in March to one count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building, a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and up to five years of probation. On Monday, Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas Hogan sentenced Weisbecker to 24 months of probation and 30 days of intermittent confinement.

Weisbecker, a freelance construction estimator who is apparently prone to believing conspiracy theories, had previously said that Ashli Babbitt, who was killed by police as she apparently tried to enter the Speaker’s Lobby, did not exist, according to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

(from the second link:
Weisbecker characterized the insurrection as a peaceful protest and claimed no one died — including Babbitt, also from Ocean Beach. ... Weisbecker told officers that she did not exist, as he knows everyone from the Ocean Beach area, and that when he asked around none of his friends claimed to know her either, according to the complaint.)

From the Guardian this morning:

Donald Trump’s former aide Cassidy Hutchinson was told by an associate of the former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows not to cooperate with the House January 6 select committee, two sources familiar with the matter have said.

Hutchinson received a message from an associate of Meadows saying: “[A person] let me know you have your deposition tomorrow. He wants me to let you know that he’s thinking about you. He knows you’re loyal, and you’re going to do the right thing when you go in for your deposition.” The redaction was Meadows, the sources said, but the associate’s identity could not be confirmed on Thursday night.

Hutchinson also told the House investigators about a call from a Trump ally. “What they said to me is, as long as I continue to be a team player, they know that I’m on the team, I’m doing the right thing, I’m protecting who I need to protect, you know, I’ll continue to stay in the good graces in Trump World,” she said, adding that she was told to “bear in mind” that Trump will be reading the hearing’s transcripts.

First Thing: Mark Meadows’ associate threatened ex-White House aide | US news | The Guardian

That is intimidation of a witness; attempting to pervert the course of justice. You go to prison for that. I hope the authorities act swiftly and decisively.

Judge in Oath Keepers Jan. 6 Cases Warns Disbarred Attorney to Stop Filing Motions or Else Face ‘Appropriate Sanctions’

Moseley was disbarred in April from practicing law in Virginia due to mishandling of client funds, unauthorized practice of law, and other misconduct unrelated to his representation of Meggs.

Despite no longer being connected to the Oath Keepers case, Moseley filed a “Factual Information” on Tuesday in response to what he described as prosecutors’ “improper” June 22, 2022 request asking for a closer look into the fee-arrangement agreement between some of the defendants in the Oath Keepers cases and their lawyers.

The government’s filing was largely based on media reports that some attorneys for the Oath Keepers may have accepted funds from Defending the Republic, a so-called “dark money group” linked to ex-Donald Trump attorney Sidney Powell.

Previously in thread on the disbarring.

Oath Keepers will tell a jury they believed Donald Trump would turn them into his own personal militia on January 6

  • Lawyers will tell jurors the Oath Keepers believed President Trump would federalize them on Jan. 6.
  • They will argue at their seditious conspiracy trial that was their lawful reason to be at the Capitol.
  • They'll also argue that Trump could have used the Insurrection Act to make them a federal militia.

Jurors will be told that the far-right extremists believed President Donald Trump would invoke the Insurrection Act as they gathered at the Capitol — 100 strong in their camo-colored tactical gear — and turn them into his own, ultra-loyal federal militia.

Their fantasy mission? To "Stop the Steal," "Defend the President," and "Defeat the Deep State," according to since-deleted rhetoric from their website. A defiant Trump would officially be their commander in chief.

"Do NOT concede, and do NOT wait until January 20, 2021," Inauguration Day. "Strike now," the Oath Keepers leader and founder, Elmer Stewart Rhodes, urged in an open letter to Trump on December 14, 2020.

"You must call us up and command us."

(They will also contend the were invited as security by "rally planners and participants, including Roger Stone, Ali Alexander, Latinos for Trump, and Virginia Women for Trump.")
