  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has the Holy Spirit explicitly led you to keep the Sabbath?

Right, I have a basic understanding of your reasoning. Do you believe the Holy Spirit is leading other people to practice the Sabbath the same way that you do?
Brother, God told us through our prophetess to pay attention to "when it is" that evening falls being "directed back to the first rise of the Sabbath". This message came after 8 years of incorrectly keeping the Sabbath from 6 to 6 pm until we did the Bible study to know what the word "evening" is, which she verified in the following message encouraging us to continue studying the word of God. We made no further progress on the Sabbath as a church after this message and continue to incorrectly think that the first "evening" fell at the beginning of the days of creation, when I know it fell in the middle of the first day.

I saw that it is even so: “From even unto even, shall ye celebrate your Sabbath.” Said the angel: “Take the word of God, read it, understand, and ye cannot err. Read carefully, and ye shall there find what even is, and when it is.” I asked the angel if the frown of God had been upon His people for commencing the Sabbath as they had. I was directed back to the first rise of the Sabbath, and followed the people of God up to this time, but did not see that the Lord was displeased, or frowned upon them. I inquired why it had been thus, that at this late day we must change the time of commencing the Sabbath. Said the angel: “Ye shall understand, but not yet, not yet.” Said the angel: “If light come, and that light is set aside or rejected, then comes condemnation and the frown of God; but before the light comes, there is no sin, for there is no light for them to reject.” I saw that it was in the minds of some that the Lord had shown that the Sabbath commenced at six o'clock, when I had only seen that it commenced at “even,” and it was inferred that even was at six. I saw that the servants of God must draw together, press together. (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 1, Page 116)

As she tells us "directed back to the first rise of the Sabbath" in Genesis, I came to understand "when it is" that evening falls on the first day. An evening can only occur after light and falls in the middle of the first day, in the special case of the first day, between first light to light again in the morning. Before the light, there was darkness and not an evening. Those are different words that are not interchangeable.

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” And evening passed and MORNING came, marking the first day. (Genesis 1:3-5 NLT)

Right, you feel that you have come to an understanding of the scriptures that no one else is yet accepting.

It's possible that you are correct. As I said, I think it's an interesting approach. But the idea that God is communicating this to the church but you are the only one who is hearing... well, to me that seems unlikely.

Brother, I am not the only one who has seen the evidence of God's word as documented in our commentary quoted below and in a recent scholarly paper by Amanda McGuire in 2008 showed! Already in 1953, our people understood that from evening to morning is the period that God called "night" and that the days in Genesis begin in the “morning”, having ended in the “morning”. Written was the SDA Bible commentary from 1953 to 1957, as stated on wikipedia.org. I highlight the end of the second paragraph in its comment on verse 5 of chapter 1 of Genesis. While it is true that the first "evening" preceded the first "morning", what is not said is that you cannot have an "evening" without having light first. What was before the light was "darkness" and not "evening". Those are different words that are not interchangeable.

Some have thought creative act lasted one night, from the evening to the morning; and others, that every day began with the morning, although the inspired Record states plainly that the evening preceded the morning. (SDA Bible Commentary, found online)

Okay... Do Amanda McGuire or any of the people who worked on the Bible commentary believe in a Sabbath that is fixed to sunset in Jerusalem?

Brother, they never got that far! They rejected the evidence that others were pointing to, in the word of God. What makes me different is that I did not reject the evidence in the word of God. Accepting God's definition of a day in Genesis, I was able to understand His message in Hebrews 3 and 4, which brings it all together. In short, the morning-to-morning weekday culminates in the two announcements in Hebrews 3 and 4 about God's "rest" on the seventh day of creation. It started for me with the first day in Genesis ending in a "morning", followed by Manna spoiling in the "morning", unless the next day was a Sabbath, and culminated in the two announcements of Hebrews 3 and 4: first, that they did not enter God's "rest" during the 40 years with Manna in the desert and secondly, Judaism did not receive God's "rest" from Joshua because hearing the story of Manna written for us from morning to morning did Joshua no good.
  1. I first understood the Genesis definition of a day from morning to morning.
  2. Then I understood that the days with Manna for 40 years are from morning to morning.
  3. And finally, in Hebrews 3 and 4, the morning to morning of the seventh day near the Promised Land does not enter God's Sabbath, which Jesus entered from evening to evening before the seventh day of the week in the Promised Land.
God gave instructions to remember the Sabbath in Jerusalem at an earlier time, from evening to evening than the seventh day of the week from morning to morning, defined in Genesis and confirmed below.

long after the Sabbath (evening), as it dawns beyond Saturday (morning), came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, to see the tomb. (Mathew 28:1, my own translation)

Right, you say the others rejected the evidence.

Yes, I understand that you believe that you have come to a special understanding of the scriptures, and that the Holy Spirit has led you to this special understanding.

This came to my mind from Ecclesiastes 7 "I have found one man among a thousand." A deep understanding of the scriptures is rare, but I don't think it's so rare that only one person would grasp it.

Brother, I see a warning from the wisest man that ever lived, Solomon, in Ecclesiastes 7.

I discovered that a seductive woman is a trap more bitter than death. Her passion is a snare, and her soft hands are chains. Those who are pleasing to God will escape her, but sinners will be caught in her snare. (Ecclesiastes 7:26 NLT)

We know from Scripture that women led Solomon away from God.

Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh’s daughter, he married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites. The LORD had clearly instructed the people of Israel, “You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway. He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the LORD. In Solomon’s old age, they turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the LORD his God, as his father, David, had been. Solomon worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites. In this way, Solomon did what was evil in the LORD’s sight; he refused to follow the LORD completely, as his father, David, had done. On the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, he even built a pagan shrine for Chemosh, the detestable god of Moab, and another for Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites. Solomon built such shrines for all his foreign wives to use for burning incense and sacrificing to their gods. The LORD was very angry with Solomon, for his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. He had warned Solomon specifically about worshiping other gods, but Solomon did not listen to the LORD’s command. So now the LORD said to him, “Since you have not kept my covenant and have disobeyed my decrees, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your servants. But for the sake of your father, David, I will not do this while you are still alive. I will take the kingdom away from your son. And even so, I will not take away the entire kingdom; I will let him be king of one tribe, for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, my chosen city.” (1 Kings 11:1-13 NLT)

This is Solomon's conclusion from Ecclesiastes 7, he did not find the way in humans, they all invent their own wrong way.

“This is my conclusion,” says the Teacher. “I discovered this after looking at the matter from every possible angle. Though I have searched repeatedly, I have not found what I was looking for. Only one out of a thousand men is virtuous, but not one woman! But I did find this: God created people to be virtuous, but they have each turned to follow their own downward path.” (Ecclesiastes 7:27-29 NLT)

The disciples said the same.

But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than any human authority. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead after you killed him by hanging him on a cross. Then God put him in the place of honor at his right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this so the people of Israel would repent of their sins and be forgiven. We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.” (Acts 5:29-32 NLT)
A deep understanding of the scriptures is rare, but I don't think it's so rare that only one person would grasp it.
The situation is even worse than you might imagine. After hearing the evidence in God's word from someone who can put it all together in Hebrews 3 and 4, they still reject the evidence. How can they find it on their own? The "good news" of how to enter the Sabbath in the Promised Land and how not to enter the Sabbath during the 40 years in the wilderness with Manna was announced to Joshua, but it did him no good because he "didn't share the faith of those who listened to God".

God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God. For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said, “In my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest,’” even though this rest has been ready since he made the world. We know it is ready because of the place in the Scriptures where it mentions the seventh day: “On the seventh day God rested from all his work.” But in the other passage God said, “They will never enter my place of rest.” (Hebrews 4:1-5 NLT)

Right, he was able to find one man in a thousand who was virtuous.

Assuming the Earth's population to be about 7 billion, that would give us about 7 million virtuous men. Yet, only one of those 7 million have entered into the rest that is fixed to sunset in Jerusalem. I don't think all those other virtuous people would reject God's message.

Brother, many have not rejected the evidence in the word of God about the days of the week being from morning to morning in Genesis and with Manna. However, they have not taken it as far as I have, to a worldwide fixed Sabbath verified in Hebrews 3 and 4. That others have accepted the evidence is documented in our commentary quoted below and in a recent scholarly paper by Amanda McGuire in 2008! Already in 1953, many understood that from evening to morning is the period that God called "night" and that the days in Genesis begin in the “morning”, having ended in the “morning”. Although the commentator himself rejects the evidence by saying that "evening" preceded "morning", what he does not say is that you cannot have an "evening" without having first had light.

Is your focus on Christ, or is it on the Sabbath?

Is your focus on Christ plus the Sabbath?

Is your focus on Christ alone?

Are you working six days a week trying to keep the Old Covenant? Are you keeping it perfectly, as Christ did?

Are you come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18, or are you come to the New Covenant of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24?

Brother, my focus is on preparing for the return of Jesus through the word of God.
Is your focus on Christ plus the Sabbath?
The message in Hebrews 3 and 4 says that the Sabbath has not been understood since Joshua.
Is your focus on Christ alone?
All the Scriptures speak of Jesus!
Are you working six days a week trying to keep the Old Covenant? Are you keeping it perfectly, as Christ did?
The Old Covenant is the new covenant forgiveness before Jesus with animal sacrifices as a stand-in for the future death of Jesus. The new covenant increases the ten commandments by one for a total of 11 commandments that show our victory over sin.
Are you come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18, or are you come to the New Covenant of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24?
  1. Mount Sinai - Animal sacrifices in an earthly temple "copy" as a stand-in, borrowing credit from the future death of Jesus.
  2. Mount Zion - Jesus in the heavenly temple as our High Priest to forgive sins daily.

Were your sins forgiven at Calvary, or are they being forgiven now?
Brother, my sins were not automatically forgiven with the death of Jesus. My sins are forgiven when I go to our High Priest in heaven daily to forgive my sins.

Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. (James 5:13-15 NLT)

Are you saying you must confess all of your sins daily to be forgiven?

What happens if you miss one of your sins?

Are you saying you must confess all of your sins daily to be forgiven? What happens if you miss one of your sins?
Brother, the Holy Spirit convicts me of sin so that I may grow through the help of my heavenly High Priest to gain victory over sin. This help from the Holy Spirit brings me into the likeness of Jesus, as a child learns to walk by getting up again and again through our heavenly High Priests' forgiveness until I no longer fall into sin.

And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. (John 16:8 NLT)

Brother, many have not rejected the evidence in the word of God about the days of the week being from morning to morning in Genesis and with Manna. However, they have not taken it as far as I have, to a worldwide fixed Sabbath verified in Hebrews 3 and 4. That others have excepted the evidence is documented in our commentary quoted below and in a recent scholarly paper by Amanda McGuire in 2008!

Right, they accepted the evidence but from your point of view haven't entered God's rest as you have. You are the only one who has entered God's rest, as far as we know.

Does the verse above apply to believers?
Brother, yes! Humans can deceive themselves into thinking that they are believers, but the truth in God's word shows that they are not believers because they do not do God's will in His word. You don't decide if you are a believer, God decides if you are a believer or not. A believer knows daily that he is a sinner in need of our heavenly High Priest to forgive his sins as he grows up like a child learning to walk, rising again and again until he no longer falls into sin.

“Not everyone who calls me Lord will enter God’s kingdom. The only people who will enter are those who do what my Father in heaven wants. On that last Day many will call me Lord. They will say, ‘Lord, Lord, by the power of your name we spoke for God. And by your name we forced out demons and did many miracles.’ Then I will tell those people clearly, ‘Get away from me, you people who do wrong. I never knew you.’ (Matthew 7:21-23 NLT)

You may think you are a believer, but if you do not do the will of God in His word you are fooling yourself.

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts. (1 John 1:5-10 NLT)

Brother, yes! Those who have accepted the evidence of a day of the week from morning to morning will understand Hebrews 3 and 4. Unfortunately, I have not found anyone on this forum who is one of those who accepts the evidence of God's definition of a day from morning to morning. In the following passage, "another day" refers to a different day than the one thought for the Sabbath since Joshua: not the seventh day of the week everywhere, but the seventh day of the creation week remembered in the time zone of creation.

Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. (Hebrews 4:8 NLT)
