  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's working extremely well. Compare D.C..
I think there’s about 20 families in Texas this week who might disagree as to how well it’s working. In any case, why focus on DC? Gun crimes are a problem across the entire country. There’s not a single corner anymore where people are safe from this type of violence.

An armed people protects all of those things.

An armed person just murdered 21 people. Who protected them?

So you believe that not all men are created equal. That some have more rights than others?

No, I believe we have whatever rights we assign ourselves. Nothing is inalienable. The Christian God doesn't grant us any rights. Any other claim is heresy.

The Declaration of Independence is what gives our Constitution standing.

Legally, the declaration of independence doesn't do anything.

I am not another man's property; and I bow to no man. Free men own guns.

True freedom is not needing to own a gun. Owning a gun for protection is an indicator that you're not free; that you're living in fear of something.

If only those Texas kids had been able to return fire.

I'm wondering why the teachers weren't armed. Many teachers tend to lean Left. Maybe Texas needs to pass a law, that requires teachers to be armed as a civic duty.

Maybe because they signed up to be teachers, not security officers.

As Lott has demonstrated the losses are escalated from a lack of guns in the hands of the law abiding.

Maybe you should focus on how many lives are saved by guns in the hands of the law abiding, in states where the people aren't oppressed with draconian gun laws. You'll probably have to dig into government statistics to get you answers. The Left biased media has little interest in reporting stories that undermine their agenda.
If Lott wants to come on this forum and argue his point I will gladly debate him. But so far all I seen is that Lott has convinced you, but you have not cited what he said that convinced you. So it should not be surprising that I remain unconvinced. Don't expect me to do your work for you.

Teachers have a hard enough time getting supplies like pencils and erasers for their class and you think they’re going to have the extra money available for a gun, ammunition and training on how to deal with a psychopath even the police are apprehensive to engage directly?

I honestly wonder what fantasy world some of you are living in.

Cause and effect is backwards from what you may think. Actually it goes like this: in places that have low crime rates, society allows more guns. (Think Montana.). It is not guns that prevent crime. It is crime that prevents guns.

It's notable that you didn't mention anything about training as part of that requirement. That's a fetish, not a real policy proposal.

It wasn't an unarmed person. The criminal was stopped by an armed man.

So multiple armed people were required to stop a single armed person who'd already killed 21 unarmed people.

The math isn't working out in your favor here.

How on earth do they find a way to come to school in clothes? The State can provide training, and can reimburse them for any rounds used in the defense of life. If Texas can afford to train them (Texas can) ; the NRA offers free courses.

It's impossible to prove a negative. The rights don't exist in the Bible. If you want to prove me wrong, all you have to do is show me where.

I don’t know or care who this Lott person is or what they think is the solution. The United States has by far the most guns of any country on earth and by far the most mass shooting events of any country on earth that’s not embroiled in a civil war.

There’s your correlation.

Interesting. I never looked at it that way before.

So you're asserting that areas controlled by the Left are more murderous? When I look at their general disrespect for unborn children; I almost feel swayed by this unsubstantiated opinion.

and yet most gun deaths are not caused by ARS but hand guns.

However, AR-15's have been involved in some incidents involving spectacular carnage and mass shootings. They can have large capacity magazines and the wounds that the AR-15 makes are particularly dangerous since the bullet easily fragments at close range (unlike a handgun). The pistol grip also makes them easily wielded and sighted, particularly if they are paired up with the right kinds of optics. It's completely different from some kid owning a .22 rifle.

Democrats with abortion blood on their hands, really have room to talk about, the killing of children.

Second Amendment advocates with children's blood on their hands don't have room to talk about women's bodily. autonomy.

Actually Lott wrote an other book that correlates murder rates internationally. I haven't read it; but I've read excerpts. I found them to be most enlightening.

I’m Pro Life cradle to grave. Oddly some people claim to be Pro Life are less concerned about murdered children than “gun rights”.
