No but they are judged to be sexually explicit and not appropriate for kids.

Judged by whom? Ultimately, the school board has to make the call.

It's a school library, not a public library. Does that help clarify matters?
Either way. If a parent called the school asking what their child has checked out our library coordinator tell them.

Does it matter to clarify?

Why would he be fired? Cause he's a librarian and as a librarian he gets to chose what's in the library. And no one can say anything about it, cause he's specially trained.
1. Every school is different it's quite likely the library coordinator is a volunteer or a teacher who receives training in the library reservations and checkout aystem.
2. I have three librarian friends. None of them would ever ban any book from their library (to be fair, public, not school). Certainly "which books should be banned" was never ever a part of the bachelor degree in library sciences.

We are not talking about a public library. We are talking about a SCHOOL library. Two different things.

Not very. Obviously, school librarians have to be sensitive to what is age appropriate, but otherwise they still have to serve a broad class of patrons.

Because jobs have job descriptions. And if you are bad at your job, you can get fired.

Why would I be sacked? I was told that librarians are the ones who get to make the decisions. You aren’t saying that parents should have a choice, are you?
I’m saying extremist views are not comportable with being a librarian.

I can understand why a person would think that about themselves.

You are "comparing informing parents". But sadly, that phrase doesn't even make sense.
"Comparing" is done when you have two situations/objects and you judge them against each other.

So when you say you are comparing informing parents... "comparing informing parents" to what? That is the other thing.

That's why it makes sense that you would be comparing an abortion (one thing) to taking out a library book (another thing). That's how the word "compare" is used.
No I’m comparing informing parents about a book (which was humorously called Big Brother) and informing about an abortion.

Then I guess they have no say in which books are there. So your point is moot.

In a public library, yes -- but as it has been noted, this thread is about a school library.
So back to my original question: who decides which books are included?

The librarians, of course.

But, before you get caught in a loop, I would like to remind you that the issue here is which books get excluded... and that's where a school board has the authority.

No, the issue is which ones get banned. It’s easy to exclude a book. You just don’t buy it.

Call it whatever makes you happy, the principle remains the same.

Some school boards have a "restricted list" (either official or generally understood) of titles, authors, and/or topics that are, well... the title sort of gives it away, doesn't it?

Some districts may set up a (temporary or permanent) subcommittee to evaluate books that come under question and advise as necessary, but by and large, the school board has the last word.
