  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

very true but I think that we all know that they will only report it if they absolutely are forced to because it does not fit the liberal agenda.

No, we don't all know that. Not entirely sure what 'it' might be -- can you name an example of something reported by the WSJ that has been ignored by outlets further left in the green box? I can see that the story from the OP is covered by ABC.

Yes. And I dearly wish that the people who pretend to know all about what's going on would do some study of the events before posting. That would save some of them from having to express their astonishment later on.

And I dearly wish some people would come to their senses and accept reality.

It is not quite like that. Trump was unique. In the over two hundred years of Presidents he is definitely one of the three worst. CNN was not that bad when Bush was President. Trump had the strange ability to make almost everyone worse.
CNN still deserves some healthy scepticism. Luckily, they're not alone in reporting this.

Perhaps. And one needs to remember, it was their television that suffered when it came to political bias. Their web sourced news did not show the same bias. When listed separately the website was always well within the green zone.

In a few minutes as I am writing this, Joe Biden is scheduled to deliver a January 6 address to the nation.

This is the man who promised, upon being elected, to unite the nation. He has decried division and disunity.

This today is his chosen moment for either honoring his promise to the American people by preaching on unity and healing...OR to do the opposite in hopes of reviving his standing in the polls by further dividing the country with an ugly address focused on denigrating the American people and pointlessly attacking the previous President who isn't even in elective office now.

LET'S SEE WHICH JOE BIDEN STEPS UP TO THE MICROPHONE.

Let's see if you can offer an opinion based on what he actually says.

I have never heard of this "Valletta fact checker". How do we know that it is not a bunch of right wing loons?

EDIT: I just now realized that your user name is Valletta. Sorry, you do not qualify as a fact checker. There is no " Valletta fact checker".
Oh I can do better than the "fact checkers" and so can a lot of people who are not on the left. I demonstrated that Snopes was wrong about the origin of John McCain being called "songbird." It was the media itself, contrary to Snopes.

I doubt if you can. You should have bookmarked you claims about McCain and Snopes. If you cannot do that you have nothing. And I did not use Snopes as a fact checker. And even if by some odd miracle you were right about John McCain. That does not make you a better fact checker than Snopes. Snopes is probably right over 90% of the time. I doubt if you can get anywhere near 50%.

For example you still believe Trump's lies about the election. Those were refuted more than a year ago.

the GOP has tried for an investigation in only the states where the evidence is the strongest

What evidence? I have been asking for evidence of systematic fraud in the Presidential Election for a year. Nobody has provided any. One section of the American public still makes noises about fraud, but still after all this time have come up with nothing.

Georgia? Nothing to see there except lies about vans, ballot boxes left uncounted, irregularities at the count. But actual evidence fit to put before a judge? Even the lawyers put up to make a case for fraud admitted that there was none.

I wonder why they think anyone will believe them when they keep making claims that they cannot support?

Nope. I cannot find any from reliable sources. And you seem to know that. But since you refuse to support your claim I will apply Hitchens' Razor:

"THAT WHICH CAN BE ASSERTED WITHOUT EVIDENCE, CAN BE DISMISSED WITHOUT EVIDENCE."

Trying to get hard-core Trump fan-boys to provide any valid evidence of a stolen election is useless. They have bought into the Big Lie hook, line, and sinker. They only accept on-line and other media sources which confirm their beliefs. I'm not a psychiatrist, but this reminds me of an old psychoanalytic term: ego dystonic. It's the phenomenon where certain attitudes and beliefs have become so deeply ingrained in one's psyche, that any thoughts or ideas to the contrary are intolerable, and are immediately rejected. Thoughts like these are threats to the ego. Hence the term ego dystonic. (The term for the opposite-- thoughts and ideas that are consistent with the self-image--is ego syntonic.) Traditionally, the term applied to symptoms of psychiatric illness. Example: OCD patients sometimes have intrusive thoughts of things like driving a car into on-coming traffic. Or abducting, raping, and killing a co-worker. But they realize this thinking is abhorrent, shameful, and totally foreign to their values. These kinds of thoughts are ego dystonic. This concept wasn't meant to apply to politics. But it seems to me there's a sort of parallel when someone cannot accept the idea that Donald Trump lost a fair election. It would mean that his social and political values were rejected by a majority of the country. And that would be ego dystonic.

I used WSJ as an example of a right leaning media outlet with good fact reporting. I don't know whether they have covered the story. I don't know that FOX has either. I've only seen it in a FOX affiliate, and it seems that doesn't count.

The Washington Post has mentioned the story. This is the only national level news coverage I've seen.

On Tuesday evening, the site Just the News, founded by former Hill writer John Solomon, reported that the state of Georgia had “launched an investigation into an allegation of systematic ballot harvesting during the state’s 2020 general election.”

The Atlanta paper has covered it with more local detail:

The investigation, first reported by the conservative website Just the News, was prompted by a complaint by True the Vote, a conservative election organization.

The complaint echoes many of the same allegations that the GBI previously reviewed: that GPS signals from cellphones during the 2020 election indicate illegal ballot collection at ballot drop boxes. The practice of collecting and mailing multiple absentee ballots, called ballot harvesting, is illegal in Georgia.

GBI Director Vic Reynolds said in September that “an investigation is not justified” because there was no other evidence tying cell phone signals to ballot harvesting.

The latest complaint says a cooperating witness can confirm the allegation, but True the Vote didn’t identify the witness to the secretary of state’s office.

It’s standard practice for the secretary of state’s office to open investigations upon receiving complaints.

I’d love to forget Donald Trump forever. But it’s various right-wing media that can’t face up to his loss. And keep polluting the infosphere with fabricated disinformation about the election and the Jan. 6 riot. As your link demonstrates, fellow Republicans who won’t toe the Trump line are attacked. And AFAIK, it’s not the political left who cook up the vast bulk of the conspiracy brain-rot that doesn’t seem to die.

Let’s make a deal: I’ll never mention Donald Trump, or anything pertaining to him again, if you do the same.

As they say, you coulda fooled us.

But that aside, there's too much riding on not forgetting about Trump for every party worker of the Democrats or anyone in the media who is determined to do everything possible to keep Pelosi, Schumer, AOC and Company in power. Vilifying Trump is about all that the Democratic Party has to work with as it faces the 2022 elections, and it is determined to ride that issue as long as possible.

have you considered that the people who made that graphic might have some bias of their own. NYT has lost a good deal of credibility as has CNN

very true but I think that we all know that they will only report it if they absolutely are forced to because it does not fit the liberal agenda. What is funny is that you totally disregard the fact that the liberal media is liberal.

The problem with the Media Bias Chart isn't the political bias of its creators, but the way in which it conflates "fact reporting" and "analysis" with "reliability" along the y-axis. There's probably an argument to be made that the chart is clear if you pay close attention to what the chart actually says, but it's easy enough to get wrong and draw inappropriate conclusions that I blame the confusion on the people who designed the chart, not on the readers who equate a lower y value with "poor quality" rather than just "more analysis" or "less-complex analysis."
