  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Everyone minus 624,000 is almost everyone?
Actually, yes.

If by "everyone" you mean the population of the United States (currently 328.2 million according to Google) and the CDC reports 605,551 deaths as of today (although we're starting to hear that those numbers are probably too high, perhaps by as much as 25%, as my other thread shows), then that means that roughly 0.18% of the US population has died, leaving 99.82% of the population, or "almost everyone" if you prefer, surviving.

If by "everyone" you mean the population of the world (currently 7.674 billion according to Google) and Johns Hopkins reports 4,060,851 deaths as of today, then that means roughly .05% of the world's population has died, leaving 99.95% of the population, or "almost everyone" if you prefer, surviving.

I'm curious what the statistical threshold for a large enough percentage to be alarming is, and if that cutoff is applied equally when evaluating risks from the vaccine itself.
That's actually a great question.

For children, the risks of the vaccine outweigh the risks of COVID. Why? Because kids have a higher incidence of myocarditis when being vaccinated, so much so that the CDC and FDA required a warning to be placed on the vaccine. Is the risk small? Yes. But it's larger than the risk posed by COVID to adolescents, which is less deadly to young people than the flu according to data.

So here's a novel idea; why not educate parents and families with the actual data and risks of the vaccine and of COVID, and the let them decide which risk they want to take?

I'm vaccinated. I'm not afraid to live life. I'm not living very differently from before the pandemic. But I'd like to avoid getting Covid while I'm living.

What areas are different, as you stated not living very different.

I think perhaps you mean the "save your lives crowd?"

It would certainly be a "shame" if the deniers contracted the Delta variant.

The harder authorities push the more others become suspicious. You'd think the pushers would realize this about human nature, but the truth is that a lot of people just do as they're told without questioning.

I looked for the part of God's Word which says to be suspicious of "the authorities", but all I could find was Romans 13. Where does God instruct us to selectively mistrust/suspect earthly governmental authorities? What I read says that we are to obey and we are to accept governmental authority is "is the minister of God to thee for good" and that "they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation."

None of Romans 13 sounds anything like what you said.

I think there are some very good points in this thread being made.

1. That these kids couldn't have gotten the vaccine
2. It's a VERY small percentage and not alarming.
3. It's a tragic scenario regardless point 1&2

I also would like to throw in the idea of where they contracted it. Does anyone know?
This doesn't sound pro-life at all.

The Case For Christian Resistance | HuffPost

Ultimately, today’s American Christians are separated into two political groups according to two differing biblical commands, one which says to submit to authorities, and the other which says you shall love your neighbor as yourself. When the two contradict each other, believers must choose which one to prioritize.

And yet the governmental authorities are God's minister to all people for good, and for a Christian to rebel is to receive damnation unto himself.

They tried to make that case for King George...it failed. Any ruler who opposes God will be brought down.

Again, you don't provide Biblical support for your claim. i encourage you to have your own opinion, but if you want to convince me you'll need to Biblically support it, and so far you haven't. Romans 13 teaches us clearly about this.

And we're not talking about any ruler opposing God, I don't know where you are getting that from.

Was Hitler God's minister? We have a lot of biblical examples of God raising up an evil ruler to punish Godless nations, we shouldn't need yet ANOTHER in our lifetimes to realize that disciplinary practice hasn't changed.

I’d be willing to bet if public health officials didn’t push the vaccine hard you would tell us that it must not be important to get because it isn’t be pushed hard.

Democrats are in charge so Romans 13 is no longer relevant. When Republicans are in charge, Romans 13 is on a level of importance as the first set of Ten Commandments. It’s so predictable you could set your watch to it.

People have the freedom in this country to make their own healthcare decisions... So, it's not a "resistance" or a "rebellion" to look at the risk/benefit analysis of the vaccine/COVID based on facts (not hype) and make a decision for yourself, whether in the positive or in the negative.

The irony is thick here, considering the massive opposition and resistance to Trump while President. We're in a Republic, and are free to speak out against things we oppose. The huffpost article is an anti-Romans 13 (as presented) Christian sentiment against Trump's presidency!

God appoints rules for satan's kingdoms, they may or may not serve God. I am really not sure if God would appoint a believer to serve in satan's kingdoms.

Do you honestly expect me to believe that if they said”We have this vaccine, you can get it if you want, either way,” you would have gone out to get it along with everyone else Whois acting like they want COVID to kill more people?
