It may be that the group I fellowshipped with around 10 years ago, are not around now. In the days when the forum allowed "sock puppets", I was concerned that there seemed to be some who were being quite nasty to others on the forum, especially to those who were WOF, and this was having a negative affect where some were afraid to contribute. I decided to add a bit of comedy. I made up a character called Superduperman who had his headquarters in a church originally called the "Church of the Divine Consciousness" located in Antarctica. Because one or two thought I was being on the level and promoting some kind of New Age church, I changed it to "The Church of the Twelve Apostles of the Grand Woofters". I wrote in a fictional dialect of English which was quite understandable but added crazy prefixes and suffixes to show that Superduperman wasn't from any recognised society but had a culture all of his own. I then proceeded to make up a whole history of that church from its beginnings before the great asteroid collision that altered the axis of the earth and transformed Antarctica from a temperate fertile continent to a frozen wasteland. The historical records of the church were found in a previously undiscovered cave at the foot of Mt Erebus.
I built up a whole religion around the COTTAOFGW in serialised form over a few months, which provided a lot of fun for those friends who got on the bandwagon. There were others who didn't know what to make of it and I just responded as Superduperman to explain it to them.
No one knew that it was really me, apart from one member who correctly guessed because she was able to compare email address and date of birth, which I had to be honest about in setting up the account.
When I thought I had run out of ideas, I had Superduperman killed off by having him go missing in a plane crash in a remote region of Antarctica. To my surprise, I got many posts asking for Superduperman to come back, so I had to have him discovered and rescued.
But I knew that the comedic fiction had passed its use by date, so Superduperman faded from the scene, and now I can no longer find his name on the forum. I think that when the rules were changed, sock puppets had to go. I think that some used sock puppets for less than ethical reasons. I used mine to bring a bit of fun and laughter into a forum that was causing some to become depressed. I think it achieved its purpose at the time.
It would be fun to do it again after all this time and bring Superduperman back from the dead, but it might be against the rules so I don't want to risk my recovered good standing with CF.
