you have probably read my last response by now. (example of why this is not equivalent to a face to face conversation). Yes we are both curmudgeons and that is largely what my last post was about. We are also prone to flippant and sarcastic comments especially when responding to people we find unserious. In fact I am going to end this for now before I make any comments I will regret.

Look forward to hearing more of your wisdom (not sarcastic) in the future.

I'm not big enough for to be ponderous but I might be able to
Curmudge.

Wow! So you're omniscient? Pretty impressive. You caught me! Not.
Discontinuity of internet conversations. Somebody needs to investigate this.
You also said this:
We would probably get along well in real life. I've always got along very well with people from Hong Kong and China - especially technical science types.

Finally for tonight, I can be a curmudgeonly sarcastic bastard but for you to write this in 2021 says you have a whole lot of growing up to do.

Think about it.

Going by the wild variance between my posts and
how you respond I was pretty sure you don't actually
read them. I did specify female esrlier, Estrid is a womans
name and it's on profile.
But OK were careless rather than deliberate.
The ok bud thing was of course just being dismissive.

I will readily say I don't generally care for men very
much and condescension will immediately
provoke some strong distaste.
It really would behoove you to get it that
nobody here appreciates the super wisdom
bit, even if it happens to rub me wronger
than it does others.

You been to Hong Kong?

I honestly have not come across your name before unless it is a variant of Astrid (meaning star, I believe) which I do know is female. I probably was too focused on the discussion to notice, I will admit that I can be guilty of that. As I said elsewhere, I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to offend or be a jerk. I would never say such things to a person who I knew was a female. In North American culture, we sometimes talk in these ways amongst guys in certain settings. In Canadian culture, we generally are overly polite (at least compared to a lot of Americans) although not as polite as in Asian culture, from my experience.

I get your distaste for men to a certain extent. Many women are very poorly treated by men around the world including sometimes in Canada. My close friends from Hong Kong and China, when I went back to university a few years ago, talked to me personally at length about things like this. Probably my closest friend in my business degree, Hong who was female, use to talk about these things to me all the time. I don't think her husband was particularly respectful of her even though she was an accomplished engineer and a very smart person.

The OT of the Bible seems to suffer from a lack of evidence up until after at least the time of Solomon (lots of evidence one would expect is missing).

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence etc etc.
Argument from silence etc etc.

Fortunately, there actually is a huge amount of evidence. And it's readily available.
I've been listening to a great podcast during the last few weeks.
Bible Dig : Archeology. Typically 25 to 40 minute episodes. Routine, diligent citations of academic source material. Topics such as historical Abram, Terah, Shem, Gilgamesh/Nimrod...geographical accuracy...extra-biblical corroboration. etc.
BIBLE DIG is a conversational Archaeology podcast which examines the historic people, places & cultures of The Bible.

Evidence for central details like 6 day creation and flood...?
Coz evidence for cities, rivers, historical
figures is no big deal.

Think about it.

I don't think so. [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]! Again you are assuming without knowing anything about me. I thought we were getting past that!!

I was one of the few people (perhaps only person), when I went back to university a few years ago, that mixed well and made good friends with everyone in my program including even Americans! :) Many people want to think of themselves as open minded, progressive, non-bigoted, modern, cosmopolitan, non-racist etc. etc. But actions are what matters. Yet many people in my program interacted very little with certain groups such as most people from Asia, Africa, some Europeans and people from the middle east. My comments are completely innocent and only reflect that I got on well with Asians. I would say the same about my relationships with Europeans, Africans, people from middle east (and even Americans :) ), if the individual came from there etc. I made friends with everyone. Actions speak louder than words my friend. I would say you should be careful about jumping to conclusions.

Yes.
The Earth didn't create itself. And it hasn't always existed. Therefore....???
How long creation took can be described in epochs of time - six to be precise.

And a pan-national Flood event is corroborated by multiple extra-biblical sources.
Of course, you can dismiss ALL of these as fabrications if you like. But you'd have to justify your belief for thinking that, and you'd have to offer some hypothesis as to the motive ancient cultures would have for fabricating a lie.

I think the best explanation is that it really happened.

Once upon a time it rained a lot where they lived. If you never left your valley and the valley flooded then your whole world was under water.

Hey, that's just a wild guess...but the best explanation would be that it actually happened.

It's a variation on Astrid. You guessed meaning wrong.

As for the rest, fuhgeddaboutit.
(I learned that living, in NYC)

I've my own reason for distrust of men, but society
in general is no big help. Luckily I'm in a good position
to take no #%%$@ from anyone.

I have relatives in Vancouver and Toronto, plus other
interests. Might move to Vancouver. We are very fond of
British Empire stuff in HK, bagpipes on Queens way
Sunday A.M. etc.

Sure, but that wouldn't falsify the notion that your nearby (unseen/unknown) neighbours were simultaneously experiencing floods in their valley(s).

OK. That was it. I've read enough. I've been around forums long enough to recognise bulldust. Hasta la vista, Berty.

Oh dear! I'm really stirring things up, here. Pushing things far from equilibrium which really helps change to occur (probably evolution too, right?!) - as per Prigogine. Maybe I'm more like Berty than I thought. Although I hope not - I don't think I want to live as old as Berty the way the world is going.

Is that bulldust with a capital "S" or little "s"? Bradskii, I'm sorry I've disrupted you by being just another one of those "bullduster" bastards (I think you mean BullS... bastards that gets on your nerves, sorry ... I know you really meant that but were too polite to say). My friend Curmudge and I agree that we are both probably curmudges but I'm even worse (as curmudge points out and I readily admit) being a ...... (fill in the blank) ... for being one of those people who commits the ultimate modern sin of not speaking politically correctly. Confine me to the flames like the books that reflect too much...

Are you saying that all the flood myths (there are dozens) say that the floods all happened at exactly the same time? Have you some info on this?

And it's kinda wierd that if everyone on the planet drowned except Noah and his family...then how do we actually know about the other myths? Who was around to write about them?

We should investigate further. Let me know what you find out.

Sorry Estrid, I didn't answer your last question about being to Hong Kong. Love to go. My friends from China and Hong Kong very generously offered to put me up and show me the sights.
