  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I still don’t see the relevance here. Jews are forbidden to eat meat offered to idols while Gentiles are not. So just because God commanded the Jews to observe the dietary laws does not mean that the Gentiles must observe those laws as well otherwise He wouldn’t have limited those laws to “the sons of Israel”.

The church is not forbidden to eat meat offered to idols, Jew or Gentiles.

A common charge is that those who don't keep the Law are lawless.

I can't speak for others but for me it's not lawlessness... there is the law of Christ, which is basically helping out other people.

Are you implying that The law of Christ is somehow different than His Father's law? A divided house can not stand...

Jesus is the law and as Christians we follow His commandments. I posted them a short time ago.
.

And His commandments are different than His Father's?

Do you believe God just made them all up at Sinai?

Not at all. The rules that God gave to Israel in the wilderness had a particular surface meaning. But they also have a deeper meaning.

It's that deeper meaning that Jesus calls us to I believe.

Only the Gentiles are given permission to eat meat offered to idols

All Christians, Jews and Gentiles, may eat whatever they want as long as it is done in faith and doesn't affect others' faith.

The message was to the church that had let the people of Balim in.

So you believe there is no law and we are free to sin?

Christians are dead to the Law and alive to God in Christ Jesus. It's the basis of Christian belief. We are free to sin but we don't sin intentionally if we are led by the Holy Spirit.

You're missing my point again. Gathering wheat on the Sabbath was breaking the Sabbath. But Jesus amended that, just as He amended what Moses wrote about divorce.
Jesus never sinned, there would be no hope for any of us. Jesus told us He was sinless so I believe Him, shouldn't we all?

John 15: 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

Yet there were clean and unclean animals then...BEFORE the laws were given as you say

Ok I just learned that it doesn’t matter what restrictions were in place before the flood because after the flood The Lord told Noah he can eat anything that moves in Genesis 9:3. So we’re all good now, feel free to order that BLT or fully loaded baked potato.

I disagree that we are free to sin, but we do not sin not because God commanded us, we keep His commandments because we love Him. 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

After Jesus forgives of our sins He says Go, sin no more, not go keep sinning. John 5:14

Why? What would that matter? They all have differing opinions on the number...

So there's a bunch of people with a bunch differing opinions on which of the 613 laws Christians are supposed to obey.
