It is a question about race relations and law enforcement. Would a BLM protest be allowed in or would they be gassed and shot with rubber and real bullets?

Personally, I don't think BLM would of made it to the block the capital is on.
This is Washington DC here! Are you kidding me? You telling me the city with a black mayor, black police chief, majority black and brown police force, 9 out of 14 city council members black or brown, basically the city where the majority of people in a position of power are either black or brown, that put a mural of Black Lives Matter; Defund the police right down the middle of main street in front of the white house is bias against black people? You jokin’ right???

Imagine this: there is an unprivileged white student who lives in a trailer park. Despite his lower socio-economic status, he does well in school and scores high on the SAT/ACT.

Meanwhile there is a a privileged black student whose parents are millionaires. Despite having access to all sorts of resources, he does okay in school and scores not as high on the SAT/ACT as the white trailer park student.

Both of these students apply to the same university. The less qualified, privileged black gets accepted, but the more qualified, unprivileged white gets rejected.

That's how affirmative action works in the United States. It purports to exist to even the playing field and help disadvantaged people of color, but in reality it discriminates against white people, including genuinely disadvantaged white people. It's very unfair. And people say "white privilege" exists.

Here is another example. In the NFL 70% of the athletes are black. No one is saying we should have more diversity in the NFL and implement quotas for more white, Hispanic, and Asian players. Meanwhile 75% of all NFL coaches are white, and people are saying that is a major problem that needs to be fixed by creating incentives for teams to hire less qualified coaches of color. You can read about it here: NFL owners table proposal incentivizing hires of minority coaches, GMs (usatoday.com)

So let me get this straight... White privilege purports to exists in the US. Yet everyone thinks it's okay when 70% of NFL players are black, but having 75% of all NFL coaches being white is somehow a problem that needs to be corrected. Are you kidding me?

Both examples I listed sound like black privilege.
You proved that white privilege exists in your post when you had to ask us to imagine the scenario you posed. Thanks to white privilege your scenario is extremely rare, if it even exists at all.

Trump’s supporters weren’t “allowed” into the Capitol and they were gassed and shot with real bullets. The government was caught as flat footed as they were when Trump made it into the White House...

RIght because every peaceful protest with majority black protesters has gone off without a hitch. This wasn't a protest down Mainstreet, it was the take over of the capital building.

Just don't think a black mob would have been allowed in where the senators and all of them had to go in their offices on lockdown. I'm pretty sure the capital itself would have been locked down.

I’m sure it’s quite common. University admission policies do favor affluent blacks over working class whites. They’ve been hit with quite a few lawsuits over this. “Diversity” policies in practice mostly mean admitting rich immigrants.

They wouldn’t have to in order to be listened to. We’ve observed that from last summer...

Do you really think that blacks are displacing whites in college through affirmative action? You think AA is used in the majority of college acceptance or do they ever make it on their own merits?

IF you are born white in this country, all of the statistics say you got a better shot at a good future if you are white.

WHite Privilege. It doesn't mean whites are handed everything they need to get ahead, it just means that in a society where white people run the majority of small business, corporations, and board rooms, other whites have a better chance of being considered for promotions and important work in general.

Any individual can do well or not but on average, whites got it better in the USA.

A lot of those "peaceful protests" weren't all that peaceful.

I think you should consider the possibility that your views on race and racism are distorting your perception of reality.

For example...

South Carolina mayor suspects 'yellow sticky substance' on her car was sprayed by vandals, not a pollen cloud

This woman is smart enough and capable enough to be mayor of a South Carolina town. She went to her car one day and found it covered with a mysterious sticky yellow substance.

She called the police and claimed she was the victim of a hate crime. The police decided that it was just pollen which had stuck to her car.

Clearly this woman's views on racism have badly impaired her ability to perceive reality.

The first question you should consider when police are shooting rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters is "were the police being attacked or did they have a legitimate reason to clear the area of protesters". If the answer is "yes" then it doesn't matter what race the protesters are.

Agreed.

What is different about this situation IMO is that it wasn't a protest, it was a rally that turned into a storming of the Capital under the premise of "take it back" or something similar. They trusted that the people would stop before charging into politicians' offices.

I think they had a legitimate reason to clear the Capital in not the area, at least the nation's capital should be secure at all times. I don't know the layout, maybe they felt the office areas were secure enough to let them stay and wait them out.

For some reason, I don't think just any group of people could do that and not be forcefully removed from the Capital.

Protests that turn bad are tipped over the edge by either side.

It's a completely made up concept intended to cause hatred and division like all the other things the left do to try and pit some one, or some group against the other all under the guise of human rights. According to them, you can't even be a man or a woman without controversy over whether or not that is truly what and who you are. Like everything else happening on a global scale, people are waking up to their nonsense and aren't falling for their plots and schemes to pit people against each other any more.

I think I see your mistake here: election to office doesn't demonstrate any innate intelligence above the masses that elect them. A great many politicians seem to be nothing more than third-rate con-artists. Just slightly below the traveling tent preachers who have the good sense to leave town when the free cash is extracted.

.

They believed they were protesting a grave injustice that was being perpetrated against them.

It's not that they don't have evidence of this injustice....they have little bits and pieces of evidence....but it's not enough to justify the claim of widespread systemic election fraud.

What they did have is a handful of politicians willing to indulge this belief in injustice for political gain.

How is this any different from the Democrats and their support of the idea that the police are systemically racist?

You have a handful of incidents every year....which may or may not involve racism. You have people who think this is evidence of a larger pattern of injustice (it's not). You have a group of politicians indulging this belief for political gain.

Our democratic system has a problem with truth.

Election to office doesn't demonstrate any innate intelligence or ability....but without intelligence or ability, that politician's inadequacy becomes rapidly apparent.

The job of politician....whether it's a matter of writing legislation or a matter of governance and leadership....is viewed rather strangely here in the US. Most people fully understand that even relatively simple jobs that require only a small amount of technical knowledge are extremely difficult for people without that technical knowledge.

For example, if I told you that you were going to do a plumber's job for the day....and you knew little to nothing about plumbing....you'd probably understand that it was going to be a difficult day and you were going to make a lot of mistakes and mess things up.

Yet for some reason, when people imagine doing the jobs of politicians...they suddenly imagine that the job is extremely easy and they would do much better than the person who has spent the last 40 years doing the job. I don't know why this is....but it's apparent whenever they talk politics or when they elect people like Trump or AOC.

If we're completely honest for a moment....it should have been immediately apparent that Trump was going to do poorly. What does he know about laws? Nothing. I can understand that people imagined him an effective leader in business and capable of building effective teams....but after about a year that idea was proven false. No one wanted to work with him and he was a terrible leader.

For many of the same reasons, AOC should have been an obviously bad choice as well. What did she learn about writing laws while bartending? Nothing. The only way electing her is a gogo idea is if you think that literally anyone can do that job. Did you see the one piece of legislation that she's put forward? The Green New Deal? It's what I would expect from a class of 8th grade children if I asked them to come up with ideas about how to fix the environment. It's not even legislation....it's a virtue signaling wish list.

So, forgive my rant for a moment lol, and to get back to the point I was making....that woman is a mayor. She runs an entire town. She had to get elected to this position so I think it's fair to assume she has at least average to above average intelligence.

Her problem, from what I can gather from the article and what I see as a pattern in general....is that she can make claims of racism without any proof or evidence, and she can expect support from those on her political "side". She won't get any pushback....anyone telling her that she's wrong.

This incident where the police pushed back is simply because the police require evidence of a crime. Frankly, it's exactly what we want the police and the justice system in general to do. We want them to require evidence....we want them to not waste time on baseless accusations.

For many of the same reasons, AOC should have been an obviously bad choice as well. What did she learn about writing laws while bartending? Nothing.

To be fair, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a bit more on her resume than bartending. Not only did she graduate cum laude from Boston University with a double major in economics and international relations, she also interned with Senator Ted Kennedy, and has worked as an activist on several issues.

Granted, many consider her working as a waitress and bartender to help support her mother, a house cleaner and school bus driver, as showing she understands how working people live, so those do get a lot of attention, but that is far from all she has done.

That said, I don't live in her district so I cannot vote for her, but I just felt that it would give a more complete picture to present more of her qualifications for office than you seem to be aware of. Though, I gotta say, a quick google search would have fixed that.

-- A2SG, on the other hand, I can't say I find much fault with your assessment of Trump.....

Is this just another one of your speculations? Here is how I see it; Washington DC is a very liberal city run by black and brown people in positions of power. These people in power de-funded the police cutting millions from the budget. When the capital riot happened, the fact that the police was not prepared for the attack is them just getting what they asked for; not an example of white supremacy. These people have nothing to complain about; it wasn't about black people in power enforcing white supremacy, it was about this stupid idea of defund the police coming back and biting them in the ---- (you know what)
