  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What should a parent of multiple children say when one child asks: “Am I your favorite”?

A wonderful fair just Loving parent treats all the children differently according to their needs, yet consistently equally.

Paul told the people (nonbelievers for at least the most part) that we are all children of God, so would that mean we are all justly/lovingly/fairly being treated equally yet differently?

Good question. It depends on what person you ask. God shows no partiality but at the same time the Bible describes that he does in fact dislike the unrighteous.

I can dislike people and even hate them (by God's definition of hate), but at the same time Love them.
Did Jesus Love those Pharisees he always answered with the very best answers?

Hey you, what do you think or believe when you look at this topic?

please share with us these thoughts.

I’m talking about people in the modern day.

Does God favor some believers over other believers?

If you believe so, why? How come?

Are there scriptures that can prove otherwise?

No, can't see God favours some believers over others. There is no partiality with God.

There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God.
— Romans 2:9-11

But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage. But we did not yield in subjection to them for even an hour, so that the truth of the gospel would remain with you. But from those who were of high reputation (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—well, those who were of reputation contributed nothing to me.
— Galatians 2:4-6

Ro 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

only divide or preference..
how to get...

Ac 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

repent .. baby's cant
baptize . Greek word meaning ,dip immerse submerge etc symbol of burial.
ask God for (men can only pray with you to assist) the holy Spirit

and upon receiving..

mark 16v16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Joh 4:24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

Joh 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth

so according to the word, to worship in spirit...

Jesus chose 12 above all other people, the Father chooses some and rejects others, and some people will be kings in the new heaven and new earth and others will be subjects. So yeah, some are favored more than others.

There are believers, and then there are BELIEVERS! Those that walk the walk and talk the talk. Those that really "walk with God". I have no scripture to back it up, but it does seem he is closer to them that are close to Him, and in that there is "favor".

God cannot be just and play favorites at the same time. The proof? God is just. It is His own self-description of Himself. He also tells us He is no respecter of persons. Therefore if God plays favorites He is a hypocrite and does not tell the truth. Therefore He is sinful if He does.

God may appear to play favorites to some people. Jesus told us at the time He healed the two blind men that their request for healing depended upon their faith. He healed them therefore they truly believed, had faith in, Jesus' ability to heal. Do all people have that kind of faith, or do many modern people entertain doubts as to God's willingness or ability to work miracles? If a person does that can they really expect to see miracles since Jesus has told us that He will answer our prayers according to the faith we have in Him?

The same goes for many other types of unbelief. How often do we pray selfish prayers by just looking to benefit ourselves? Do we really believe that God is to reward our selfishness? And how many people ask God to do things that we doubt Him doing ourselves? If we doubt God will really do things that we ask of Him can we really expect Him to answer our prayers? Jesus gave us the answer to that, as it will be done to us according to our faith.

Remember the story of Jesus coming down the mountain on the morning of the day after He was transfigured? Jesus' disciples had tried to cast a devil out of a boy but had failed. The boy's father immediately runs to Jesus and asks if He could heal his son. Jesus' reply? If thou canst believe all things are possible to him that believeth. Do you remember the father's reply? Lord I believe. Help thou mine unbelief. And Jesus threw the demon out of the boy. The father confessed his doubt and asked Jesus to heal his unbelief. So Jesus performed both miracles at the same time. He healed both the father and the son of their spiritual maladies.

Are we looking for God to give us blessings that we want but will work against us in the long run? Should God bow to our will, or should He do what is for our ultimate good? There are many factors going into whether we will see what we think is a positive answer to prayer. But Jesus loves us and does what is best for us even if we think He does not answer our prayer.

One prayer I can always see being answered in a positive way is if we ask Him to reveal Himself to us so that we might build our faith in Him. But don't be surprised if things seem to go wrong after that. Why? Because faith is like a muscle. It needs to be exercised to be strengthened. And every time we exercise faith Jesus will draw nearer to us and we will get to know and understand Him better.

Study Jesus' speech to His disciples on the way to the garden of Gethsemane. He speaks of the relationship of branches of the vine to the vine and how that relationship speaks to our connection to Jesus and fruit bearing in our lives.

Romans 5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

So God dislikes the unrighteous so much He commends His love towards us while we were yet sinners. I find there is no definition of, or synonym of, commend that expresses the idea of dislike.

God is no respecter of persons. That said. You and your relationship with him will make you and him be closer. So in a sense there is respect and closeness he will have. But that is more up to us at that point and our relationship with him.

One thing that complicates the issue is that God's goodness isn't necessarily the same thing as blessings in this life. There are many who would be spoiled by the riches of the world, so are kept from them. Conversly, there are those who would never be broken to the point of accepting God. God is opposed by nature to those who turn away from Him, but that hatred doesn't necessarily include malicious intent as human hatred does. God, in some sense, desires that all would come to knowledge of the truth. Yet in righteousness, He must despise evil and that springs from the hearts of men and who they are in their inner being.

God loves all-wants all to be saved (1 Tim 2:4). Not all love God in return.

There is the word people and thinking all the modern people - people today - God is favoring everyone because He gave His Son for everyone. About believers I gave my opinion already.

Looking from the point of treating - there was good opinions in this chain - if God is doing this

(King James Version: Hepr. 12:6)

6.For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

it obviously do not mean he is not favoring this person. I'm seeing here love

(American Standard Version: Hepr. 12:7-10)

7. It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not?
8.But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9.Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10.For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

When I have been a target of this treatment, I was having temptation to compare my life to other believers, those who were having "fun and easy". In the end I realized this is for my best. It was not easy to thank God but it was the only way to go through and continue living with God.

Someone may have thought "this man is not in God's favor" during those times.

I think the opportunity of salvation is equal in that anyone can come. But I think God does give some people more than he gives others. And some people are disadvantaged even though they are not actually shut out. If I was living prosperously in Iran and it was my homeland, even though I am not excluded from salvation, the chances of me being Moslem are nearly 100%. That seems unlikely I would ever become Christian. Yet in America, the same person's chances would be significantly improved. So some get better circumstances.

Section10 that is something we have absolutely no control over, thinking about what you are saying. Lifestyle and what you would be use to would be completely different.

We have no control over who our parents are, what country we are born in, or the living situation we grow up in as children.

Salvation is equal to all, agreed.

For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. KJV Romans 9:15

Is he gonna judge us according what we have given, what are our circumstances, do we have friends, wife, food, comfort, freedom, how good life we have, level of oppression, how many talents he has given, how much he has blessed or not blessed.

How can gods judgment be just when he have told us that every other sin is pardonable than blasheming the holy ghost?

Another guy has friends, family, nice job, has plenty of food and overall decent living. Has little harship, little persecution, little oppression, has good circumstances to produce good fruit. He is able to shut his mouth from iniquity even if he thinks in his heart otherwise, yet if dealt with Job treatment he would have blashemed holy ghost. He goes to heaven.

Another guy has no friends, no family, is in living in pain and suffering, is heavily oppressed, is poor, lacks food, has terrible job or no job at all, Hes so obstructed from oppression that he cant focus on doing good, has terrible circumstances to produce good fruit. He doesnt understand why he have to suffer, so in the end he blashemes the holy ghost in his affliction. This guy might have been actually better in fruit and in overall holyness than this guy who had nice life. Yet he will be going to hell.

So does everyone need to get Job treatment to find out grains from chaff?

You only have to look at believers lives and there can only be one answer, of course he does. I look at some people and everything just falls into place for them, they dont have to struggle for anything. Then look at others (and I include myself in this group) and nothing works out for them, things they can have no control over stop them achieving any success in life and they struggle to achieve anything.
As a biblical example for someone who was greatly blessed, look at Job. Most people see him as someone who suffered greatly, but I dont see the story of Job that way. He was someone who was greatly blessed by God and a hedge of protection was cast around him. It was only when Satan challenged God that Job was being greatly favoured that God allowed that hedge of protection to be removed, but only for a while. And then after that he was blessed even more than before! The only thing that makes me not want to swap places (in terms of blessing) with Job is I wouldnt want to see my children die. Everything else, would be better than the life God has chosen for me. And just so you know, at one time I tried to go to Bible College, looking to serve God. My pastor just turned on me saying he would not support someone in his church going to bible school and if I did it I would be on my own. I missed that years intake without his support and turned to other things. That on top of other things seemed to be a clear message God did not want me serving Him. And things have got far worse from there. Health issues, work always going wrong, outside circumstances always messing it up when I start to do well. The credit crunch and covid happened just after I started trying to go self employed and build up business and put an end to it. When employed I have gone through 20 (yes twenty) company or department restructures that ended very badly for me, most on decisions taken by people I had never met so it wasnt down to me, just circumstantial. Lots of other things as well.. It cant be coincidence so has to be either God doing it or not doing a thing to stop these things happening to me. I've reached the point where I wont give up my salvation but also have stopped telling God I want him in my life. Lets call it a trial separation. I have always been taught OSAS so if thats wrong those pastors have a lot to answer for. Since I moved away from seeking God things do sem to be a bt better, but I am wary of that because when thats happened in the past its always been a set up to a bigger fall.

More examples:

Person1: 30 years of blamess walk as Pastor. Has brought thousands of souls to christ. Then in the day affliction he is not able to keep his mouth shut he commits the unpardonable sin. Is more holy, just and loving than those other two. According to gods word he goes to hell.

Person2:Before coming to faith has lived in all kind of pleasures. Has enjoyed the world in its fullest. 1 year before dying comes in faith , not able to do much but still will be saved.

Person3: Christian who during his walk shows little no none love, has poor fruit, does premarital sex, takes divorce with his wife with lightly reasoning, sometimes falls to drinking too much, teaches wrongly which causes some people to lose their faith. Does not live that holy, does not even want to be that holy.
goes threw fire, works are burned, but is saved.

These are obviously just possible examples, not absolute truths.

So he favors the one who fears him and does what is right. When he says does not show favoritism, he is talking about favoring one nation over another, concerning who he accepts.
