United States Coronavirus: 8,746,953 Cases and 229,284 Deaths - Worldometer

"The United States hit an all-time high Friday in daily new coronavirus cases, surpassing the previous record set during a summer surge of cases across the Sun Belt.

"Friday’s tally — the first above 80,000 — comes as many states break their records for new infections. The average number of covid-19 hospitalizations has jumped in at least 38 states over the past week, a trend that cannot be explained by more widespread testing..."

Imagine if a national leader so many followed and believed all he said had set a good example of mask wearing, when it mattered to help set a lower starting point for this winter surge, back during the summer..... during June, that crucial swing month, when we could have kept it down better, instead of what actually happened, as millions followed Trump's example of not wearing a mask much at all. In June.

No, I heard Donald John say that it's only because we're testing more. Stop testing and the number will drop like a lead balloon - problem solved.

This third surge is far more geographically dispersed than what the country saw in the spring or summer: The virus can now be found in every kind of American community, from tiny farm towns to affluent suburbs to bustling border cities. This is the first of the American surges with no clear epicenter: From North Carolina to North Dakota, and Colorado to Connecticut, more Americans are contracting COVID-19.

The United States now reports nearly 60,000 new cases every day, numbers previously seen only during the peak in July and early August. Since the middle of September, the number of new cases diagnosed each day has swelled by 73 percent. The number of Americans hospitalized has increased by at least 40 percent.

This broadness really is different. Early on, one 'metric' I was watching was how many states had more than 1,000 cases. Early on, it was 10 or 12 or 15, and the highest states were hitting 10,000 a day. Now it has flattened out a lot. A week ago, I noted a day recently with 26 states that each hit 1,000. Today, that number is 29 states with more than 1,000 cases. But the highest ones are 5K-6K.

I mean it's not a great metric since the populations of states vary so much, but the fact that states like the Dakotas, which both have fewer than a million residents, are still hitting that mark says a lot.

Amazing how this was almost all gone until Biden started coming out of his basement to try and unseat the most popular elected President of all time…

A hospital in Idaho is full and turning away patients.
Hospitals are full but some parts of Idaho refuse mask rules

And our Fearless Leader says we’re rounding the curve. Spinning out of control, skidding off the road, and crashing into a ditch in flames is more like it. The man is living in a fantasy dream world. But it’s a nightmare to all the rest of us.

Who is NOT wearing a mask these days? You can't get in ANYWHERE without one. Grocery store. Bank, whatever.

My HVAC guy came a couple weeks ago to my house, wearing a mask. I asked if he would like me to wear one too, even though I wouldn't be close to him, and he hesitated - meaning yes - so I popped it right on. He has a fragile child.

I don't know how anyone is doing anything publicly at all without one. No one will let you in, even if you were so inclined. I think this is a small fringe of people who are attempting to resist - but not successfully, if they need to go buy anything.

He knows we are not rounding the curve. He clearly said in the debate, during a distracted moment, he "can't hide in his basement for the next year and half." He knows we have a long way to go. He just won't say that outright since it would reflect poorly on him.

A virus does not reflect on him. If you think this never would have happened had Hillary been elected, I have some beachfront land in Arizona to sell you.

He is the one worried about how all this reflects on him. Sell him the beachfront property.

Yes. It's taken more seriously now. Even through Dr. Birx and the other administration public health officials were already pleading with people to wear masks starting in late May.

If only the national leadership had reinforced that life saving message back in June....

When the virus was still at a low level....

Didn't Trump recently say USA is "turning a corner" on the pandemic?

What did he actually mean by this?
What data and facts led to this assessment?
trump doesn't need facts or data. He knows more than the doctors. He's got a great mind. He listens to his gut. He's his own best advisor.

Besides, he knows his base will always believe every lie (and there have been some whoppers) that comes out of his mouth anyway.

France who has about 1/4 of the US population has had 40,000+ Covid cases on Friday.

I dont see them blaming it on president Macron.

France becomes 7th country with more than 1 million COVID-19 cases

As of today France has had:
1,087,497 cases
34,645 deaths

USA has had:
8,827,932 cases
230,068 deaths

France population has 67 million
USA has 328.2 million

USA has 4.9 times more population than France.

Lets adjust France tally to USA by multiplying by 4.9
France adjusted tally:
5,328,735 cases vs USA 8,827,932 cases 65.7% more than France
169,760.5 vs USA 230,068 deaths 35.5% more than France

So why, comparatively speaking has USA had 60,000 more deaths than France?
Is that because Trump's followers aren't social distancing and are refusing to wear masks?
Why are Trump's followers not social distancing or refusing to wear masks? Is it because of things Trump has said? Because of things Fox news have said or both?

BTW - France are in the middle of Europe who are being over run.
A better comparison would be Canada vs USA. How does that comparison look?

A comparison with Canada gives:
213,959 cases
9,922 deaths

population of Canada = 37.59
USA has 8.7 times more population than Canada.

Adjusted tallies
1,861,443 cases vs USA 8,827,932 cases 374.25% more than Canada
86,321 vs USA 230,068 deaths 166.52% more than Canada

So why, comparatively speaking has USA had 143,747 more deaths than Canada?
Something to do with refusal to social distance or wear masks given the misinformation passed on by the president and his favourite Media outlet?
