The concept of women priests is the church conforming to the world. We have our mandates and commands, if you want to be part of the church the body of Christ and follow Him you need to follow what scripture say. Women are to be teachers of women. Bible study leaders, conferences to other women etc. That flies straight in the face of worldly thinking I know. But really they are spiritually ordained to that kind of work not the priesthood scripturally.

Jesus ordained two priests.
John the Baptist and Mary of Bethany.

Jesus ordained 11 priests (excluding Judas). We call them the Apostles.

I don't have an issue with women priests or deacons. However, I think the Catholic Church has a pretty solid tradition against it however. I think the next step for the RCC would be women deacons, there is pretty solid evidence for women deacons to assist women as you are saying, there is less evidence of women priests.

I also think that the next step to help with the priest shortage would be married male priests, but that is a while off as well. Not being an practicing Catholic, I don't have a lot of "skin in the game" as it were.

Does the world need women priests?
Scripture doesn’t recognize women elders/priests/pastors. Paul even forbade it. So while the world may need them, the church doesn’t.

...Jesus ordained two priests.
John the Baptist and Mary of Bethany.

Where do you get that idea? Jesus said:

For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them. But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad, enlarge the fringes of their garments, and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called 'Rabbi, Rabbi' by men. But don't you be called 'Rabbi,' for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers. Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven. Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you will be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Mat. 23:4-12

Because of that, I think no priest is ordained by Jesus.

...Does the world need women priests?

I don’t see any reason why it would need that. I think people need love, caring, wisdom and truth.

I thought they were closer to bishops or cardinals.
The church was still young at that time, the structure was not to that level where there were overseers or electors like a Cardinal/Bishop. Apostle is another scriptural position, however. The Apostles oversaw the developing church and helped it to grow, but the overall congregations and people were still in close ties and integrated in the Jewish community and synagogue.

They were not expelled from the synagogues for a while longer, usually the date given is the late 1st century, so around 40-60 years after Christ's Ascension. Until the Temple was destroyed in 70 AD there is a reasonable argument that can be made that the followers of Jesus are a Temple sect. Even after the 1st century many Jewish believers were still fully integrated in the synagogue and Jewish life cycle.

Not cardinals, that's for sure. That office wasn't established until well into the Middle Ages and all members of the College of Cardinals are bishops. They just have a special assignment.

As for bishops, yes, you could think of the Apostles that way because they were the first Christian clergy of any sort and passed the authority on to others as the need arose.

1. They were sent by Jesus, not ordained.
2. They were all Jews - should all gentile clergy leave the church?

Does the world need women priests?

The world needs Christians who will preach the Gospel, be salt and light and show the love of God - not dozens of denominations who argue over ritual and church practice.
The church needs clergy who have a strong calling and faith, know God's love, have a passion for God's word and his mission - male, female, young, old; it doesn't matter. God, his love and his Gospel are far more important than buildings and church practice.

Where do you suppose the clergy of the churches that we know existed in the early years--the deacons, priests, and bishops, all referred to in the NT--came from if not Christ's commissioning of his Apostles? And yes, "clergy" and "ordination" are more recent terms, but using them doesn't change a thing about this.

It also doesn't change the fact that:
a) the 12 disciples were all Jews; no Gentiles.
b) God still calls his people - men, women and children - to serve him in whatever role he chooses.

Some of them may have had freckles, too, and others not. This point is irrelevant.

Absolutely. That, however, wasn't the issue we were discussing.
