What does this mean? Is it just a joke or is it mocking?

It means the Fundamentalists were right, to a point. The culture they decried in the 60's ended up ruining the thin Christian veneer that covered North American society. Read the full article or listen to the link provided in the original post. Wilson is spot on.

I got the completely wrong idea. I thought it was mocking fundamentalists. I find his writing style hard to understand for some reason
