Is it bad that I prayed when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior as well as His sacrifice for my sins and resurrection? It is an outward manifestation of an inward belief. I've actually had someone tell me that it was bad that I prayed when I received Christ.

If it helps, anyone can pray most anytime they want to.

But did God understand that I felt more comfortable expressing my belief that way?

I cannot speak for God, but I also cannot imagine why someone would get after you about praying.

Belief, Trust, Faith is the means by which God has given mankind to receive eternal life. Prayer is not bad, but that is not how a person receives eternal life.

A person receives eternal life when they believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah from Old Testament prophecies and trust in The Messiah for the gift of His eternal life.

You can believe this without having to say a prayer.

I know that saying a prayer will not save me. It is an outward manifestation of an already held belief. I received eternal life because of trust in Christ's finished work. Not because I said a prayer.

Why is that hard to believe? That you can already believe something but choose to express it verbally?

no, it's not bad, I don't know why anyone would call it bad.

You say you received eternal life because you trusted in Christ finished work.

The Bible does not say it is the finished work of Christ that gives eternal life. The Bible states many times it is The Christ that gives eternal life. Christ is eternal life, nothing else is designated as the object of a persons faith. Not the Bible, not the death of Jesus, not the miracles, etc.. all should point a person to look only to the Messiah for eternal life.

John 5:39,40
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

Praying is just talking to God. I don't believe God is bothered by it. The exception is if you think that your prayer saved you. Not at all. Lord Jesus saves us, not our prayers.

Have that person show you in Scripture where it forbids someone to pray to receive Jesus. Was he a hyper-Calvinist? They don't like it when we pray for another's salvation.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

What reasoning did that person give you for saying it's bad?

I do look to Jesus for eternal life. I don’t think it was my faith or acknowledgment or whatever else you want to call it. He is the only thing that can save me. Him, alone, because I cannot save myself. I look to Him alone. Not myself my faith, etc.

I am not sure what else to tell you. But that I look to Him only for eternal life.

I have looked to Him sincerely as the passage states. I believe He is the Messiah and only through Him can someone be saved. Period! What else do you want? This only makes me more confused.

As I’ve stated before I know prayers don’t save. I wasn’t trusting in my prayer. But in Christ for eternal life.

Well i was just going by what you wrote:

That you have eternal life because of the finished work of Christ.

When i read that, to me it was reading that you have eternal life because of Christ finished work which i read as you were trusting in that act for eternal life. (which i am guessing that is a reference to Jesus death and resurrection).

But just remember that Jesus death and resurrection is one of the 8 miracles (signs John 20:30,31, listed in the Gospel of John).

That proves who Jesus said He was, The only unique/begotten Son of God The promised Messiah.

And should direct a person to The Messiah for life and not one of His miracles.

If i miss read and came across with the wrong impression i will apologize. I ma not here to make any judgments.
But i just know that the church has confused to a great extent, on what a person does to receive eternal life.

Like in many cases adding a prayer, baptism, confession, repentance, a changed life, etc.. into their presentations.

Notice I didn't say Calvinists, but rather 'hyper-Calvinists'.

I do not believe that there are "hyper Calvinists" that is something made up by Arminians ..I am a Supralapsarianist ...Yet I believe that God ordains that we pray for individuals to be saved
