  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In this case, the Congress was forced to act on their own because the DoJ wouldn't.
Even if that were true (it isn't), there would be no justification for holding secret hearings and prohibiting Republican members from participating (which is being done).

There are names for that sort of thing, but "impeachment hearings" isn't one of them.

Kangaroo court comes to mind. Here is Google's definition:

A kangaroo court is a court that ignores recognized standards of law or justice, and often carries little or no official standing in the territory within which it resides. The term may also apply to a court held by a legitimate judicial authority who intentionally disregards the court's legal or ethical obligations.

I wonder if anyone can show how the current impeachment process differs from a Kangaroo court?

Then why haven't they actually impeached him? There are no articles of impeachment.
I'm pretty sure that they want to complete their investigations first before making the decision on whether or not to bring charges; they also would have to decide on which charges to bring.

Impeachment is a trial. The defendant has rights. What's happening now is not a trial.
Correct, this is not a trial and impeachment has not yet begun, contrary to your baseless assertions.

The defendant has no rights. Instead, the defendant here is lied about and slandered 24/7. If he criticizes any of it, he is lied about and slandered even more.
He's not actually a defendant at this point in the process. He is being investigated right now, not tried.

As for lies and slander, well, you can get your fill here if not 24/7 then pert near.

Donald may be the champion of documented lies while in office, I'm not sure if anyone else comes close: President Trump has made 12,019 false or misleading claims over 928 days

You're entitled to your opinion.

In almost every country in the world, any group attempting for three years to overturn the last election results ... would be considered treasonous. That indeed fits the definition of treason.

Let's be clear. Attempting to win the next election is not treasonous. Attempting to overturn the last duly elected government is treasonous.
Wait, Mike Pence ran against Donald Trump in the last election? How did I miss that?

None of which lasted three years.

The impeachment inquiry started 3 weeks ago.

As far as I recall, there is no mention of Guiliani's Ukraine activities in the Mueller Report.

But nice try....

Because he's the person who becomes President if Trump is removed from office. After all, this is about "overturning the last election" isn't it? Then by that logic the person who will become the next President if Trump was removed is the person who lost the election.

Oh, I see now what you meant.

OK.

But after all, when it comes to the office of President, the voters chose Trump, not Pence. Who is to take over if something happens to the President doesn't really make that person the one who was elected President.

It's great...they look terrified to let anyone into their secret little impeach Trump fantasy world, because they know they have nothing...let them investigate in secret all they want...they will never be done...there simply is nothing to find so they will have to make something else up anyway...and watch it fizzle out to a big nothing burger yet again.

And with the track record MSM has made for themselves...many of their ratings just keep plummeting because they are such poor liars.

1) The voters chose Hillary, not Trump. 2) Pence was elected specifically to take over if Trump could no longer execute the office of President.

ALL of the members on the Intelligence Committee are allowed to ask questions. The only people who can't ask questions are the 3 members of the Judicial Committee, which are 2 Democrats and 1 Republican. They can attest to the whole proceeding that the Republicans are allowed to ask questions.

These are the members who are on the Intelligence Committee that are behind those closed doors asking the witnesses questions, Democrats and Republicans.

Majority And Minority ( Minority list - Devin Nunes, etc.)
Yup, Devin Nunes is right in there asking questions.

Agreed! I did not say citation provided. I asked you for a citation of your false claim that defenses participate in grand juries. Which is why I quoted your claim before I asked for your citation.

Nope, I was right the first time.

The further this goes along, the less credible it seems. In the beginning, at least mainstream media personalities could carry it along a little with straight faces. Now, all testimony is behind closed doors. Transcripts are being withheld, and only Democrat talking points seem to be allowed out.

Adam Schiff's intelligence committee inquiry apparently cannot withstand the light of day, just as Jerry Nadler's earlier judicial committee inquiry couldn't. Nadler himself seems to have gone into hiding after the flameout his committee experienced with its inquiry. Adam Schiff is evidently hoping for some miracle to breath life into his inquiry. It's a long time until the 2020 election though. The Mueller investigation couldn't maintain a pretense for much more than two years, even when initiated with the full credibility and backing of the Department of Justice. It seems highly unlikely that Adam Schiff will be able to keep up the pretense of legitimate investigation for even a month, much less another year.

Time will tell of course. With the Mueller investigation, many Republicans were willing to support the investigation and wait for its conclusions. That's not happening with Schiff's hyper-partisan investigation. Everyone knows its purely partisan at this point ... an investigation which can't withstand the scrutiny which being open would bring to it.
It really can't be a partisan investigation if both political parties are allowed equal time to ask questions.

Incorrect. That's a fantasy Hillary's been telling herself and others to dull the pain of her failed election attempt. Having a slightly higher vote count does not entitle Hillary and the Democrats to overturn the election.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that Trump voters in BLUE states wouldn't have turned out in droves if their votes would have mattered. Trump would have campaigned differently,as well, if the election were total votes rather than electoral college.

I'm sorry, but that isn't worth much of a reply. We have an electoral system and it works. Both candidates knew the system going in. If it had been a different system, such as a nationwide popular vote system, they would have done their campaigning with a mind to winning according to THOSE other rules. That's all there is to this. Oher than for the sour grapes, of course.

Hahaha, yeah I’m sure all those secret Californian Republicans would have appeared like magic! Would all these secret Republicans who didn’t bother voting have added up to just over 3 million by any chance?

I’m assuming of course that there aren’t any secret Democrats in red states that didn’t bother voting right?

Correct.
Here is a citation to that fact.

Schiff wrote that in each deposition, he has made an opening statement and allowed a Republican lawmaker to do the same. Counsels for and members of both parties have questioned witnesses and both parties were given equal representation and time, he wrote.

"It is necessary to point this out, because the President and his allies have made the false claim that GOP members and staff have been precluded from attending or asking questions — nothing could be further from the truth," the letter said.

Schiff says committees will eventually make impeachment inquiry transcripts public
