This is the breath of life (neshamah) going back to Adam and Eve when God breathed life into them.

This goes beyond the life (chay) God gives
to the plants and the animals.

Genesis 7:15 (KJV)
And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.

The word “soul” is translated from Hebrew, the word nephesh. The Hebrew nephesh merely means a breathing animal.

Animals are called nephesh in: Genesis 1:20, “moving creature” (Hebrew, nephesh); Genesis 1:21, “great whales, and every living creature” (Hebrew, nephesh); Genesis 1:24, “living creature” (Hebrew, nephesh).

The translators in translating into the English language used the English word “creature, but in Genesis 2:7 they translated the same nephesh into the English word “soul”—man became a “living soul” (nephesh).

The word nephesh literally means “life of animals,”
referring to physical life and not spirit, the soul is physical, composed of matter, and can die.
-

Now if you want to talk about "the spirit in a man"

1 The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

- science calls it your conscience, they can't see,
or feel, or understand it not being physical.

8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

- it's what imparts thought, it separates mans
brain from mere animals.

Ecclesiastes 11:5: “As you do not know how the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything” (RSV).

God says we don’t know how, but we know when a child receives the human spirit: when it’s in the womb.

The difference is in Genesis 1:27 where the letter Lamed is added to the beginning of the word: לְנֶ֥פֶשׁ (Hebrew reads from right to left) Hebrew is a picture language. Each letter has an infinite meaning.

Science tells us about the Great Oxygen event 2.4 Billion years ago. So this would have been the fifth day 2.4 Billion years ago. Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden do not show up until the eighth day. According to Gerald Schroeder each day in Genesis is half the length of the day before.

God speaks and it is done. With God/Christ in us we too must speak and believe.
The difficult part is the people that speak the wrong words. We speak either blessing or curses. We choose life or death, sickness or health, poverty or prosperity. People often do not realize this is a choice that they are making.

Even the power of attraction people believe we generate negative or positive energy and that is what we are going to attract in return. So even the world gives testimony to this.

Anything as far as Earthly comforts we get prior to that can be considered a bonus.
I spend a lot of time to read, study and learn because of the comfort of the annotating that goes along with that.

Hello joshua.
Christians should have knowledge of both Hebrew and Greek.
After all, both Hebrew and Greek are mentioned in the NT

Luke 23:38
And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:
THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
John 19:20
Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.
Revelation 9:11
And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

This is a good Hebrew study site, tho it has changed it's format a littlesince I first saw it in 2007

The Ancient Hebrew Research Center

Reading an English translation of the Bible is like the fast food restaurant; you may still get fed, but doesn't have the same impact as the Hebrew text. Even if one doesn't know Hebrew, much can be learned by understanding Hebraic concepts.

The Hebrew Bible (called the Tanakh by Jews and the Old Testament by Christians) was originally written in this pictographic Hebrew script (as well as a modified form usually refered to as Paleo-Hebrew) by Hebrews whose language and culture were very different from our own.
Because of this, it is through the study of the ancient Hebrew alphabet, language and culture we can better understand the Biblical texts.

As Hebrew poetry is written much differently than our own Western style of poetry, many do not recognize the poetry which can cause problems when translating or interpreting these passages.
Approximately 75% of the Tenach (Old Testament) is poetry. All of Psalms and Proverbs are Hebrew poetry. Even the book of Genesis is full of Poetry. There are several reasons the Hebrews used poetry, much of the Torah was sung and was easier to sing too, poetry and songs are easier to memorize than straight texts, Parallel poetry (as in Genesis 1) emphasizes something of great importance, as the creation story is. The rabbis believed that if something is worth saying, it is worth saying beautifully."

When we read Genesis chapter one we usually see only one story there, but there are actually many stories. Why don't we see these multiple stories? Because we read the Hebrew Bible from a Modern Western thinkers point of view and not from an Ancient Eastern thinkers such as the Hebrews who wrote it. The Hebrews style of writing is prolific with a style of poetry unfamiliar to most readers of the Bible. This poetry is nothing like the poetry we are used to reading today and therefore it is invisible to us.

Posts concerning the tense of a Greek word

Is the land restoration to the nation of Israel found in the new covenant?
Romans 11:26 : "And so all Israel shall be saved" Future tense. As it pertains to Israel as a nation, Paul did not say that "Israel was saved" (past tense) or that "Israel is being saved" (present tense) He said "Israel shall be saved" implying future tense. The Greek word "houto" does not give any indication otherwise.
The Greek below shows your future tense idea to be in error.

G4982 σώζω
.
No, I don't believe Paul changed his mind. It is just that one day, the believing Jews who are presently in the minority will one day be the entire nation of Israel (Rom. 11:26) and the Greek does not show me to be in error. It is merely giving definitions that can be applied to a past, present, or future tense context and in the case of Romans 11:26, it is being applied in a future tense context.
Hello C E. The Greek agrees with you and not with BAB. Good post..............

New Testament Greek

Lesson 2
In Greek, tense indicates not only time of action, but more especially kind of action.

In this lesson, the Present tense and the Future tense will be introduced. Clearly, we see a distinction between the time of the action represented by these two tenses. However, from the outset, we want to note the importance of kind of action.
In an absolute way, tense indicates time of action only in the indicative mood. In other moods, it may indicate a time of action in a relative way. But tense is associated with kind of action in all moods.

Voice refers to the relationship between subject and verb. In English, it answers the question, is the subject active or passive with respect to the action?
Consider the following two sentences:

The bull tramples the ground.
The ground is trampled by the bull

In the first sentence, the subject is "bull" and the bull is actively trampling. The verb "tramples" is in the Active voice.
In the second sentence, the subject is "ground" and the ground is passively being trampled. The verb "is trampled" is in the Passive voice.

There are three voices in Greek. They are the Active, the Middle, and the Passive.
In this first course, we will only concern ourselves with the Active Voice

Future Active Indicative
The Future Tense does not use the same stem as does the Present tense. In fact, there are 6 basic verb stem forms, or "principal parts" for each Greek verb. The Present tense uses the 1st principle part and the Future tense uses the 2nd principle part. However, for most of the verbs we will be learning in this course, the only difference between the Present stem and the Future stem is the letter σ (sigma). So for now, you can learn this simple rule: To form a Future tense verb, start with the Present tense stem, add σ, and then add the personal endings.

Below is the FUTURE ACTIVE INDICATIVE conjugation of λύω.

singular plural
1st person λύσω I shall loose λύσομεν we shall loose
2nd person λύσεις you will loose λύσετε you (plural) will loose
3rd person λύσει he, she, it, will loose λύσουσι they will loose

The Reset of Civilization:

The Word of God [the Bible] tells us that He is the Creator of all things. He has the ability to do anything that he chooses. He made the earth and set humans upon it.

It’s been nearly 2000 years since the last time we were given Divine instructions, that is: as written in the Bible. Since then, people have mostly pursued their own interests, worshipping false gods, promoting evolution and denying the existence of their Creator.

We are told that thousands of years ago people were in a similar situation, having degenerated into apostasy and sin. Only one righteous man and his family were kept alive as God destroyed all the rest by a worldwide flood. Jesus predicted that ‘once again it will be as in the days of Noah’ and when He instigates His Day of fiery wrath, we should be prepared. Matthew 24:37-44

The Creator God ‘reset civilization’ in Noah’s day and now we are facing the same judgement. God promised after the Flood, to never again use water or wipe out life so completely. Genesis 9:11
But in Deuteronomy 32:22 & 34-35, He tells us of a terrible fire punishment stored up for His enemies, on their Day of Doom. Isaiah 54:9-10

There are many descriptions in the prophesies of this sudden and devastating worldwide Day of fire and earthquakes, most are either ignored or allegorized because people cannot see any literal fulfilment. The biggest difficulty that most have, is realizing the difference between the Lord’s Day of vengeance and wrath and the Return of Jesus in His glory.

Isaiah 13:9-13 The Day of the Lord is coming, that cruel Day of wrath and fierce anger, to reduce the earth to desolation and to destroy the wicked there. The sun, moon and stars will give no light. Humans will become scarce, as rare as fine gold and the earth will quake at the wrath of God on the Day of His blazing anger. Revelation 6:12-17

This and many other prophesies cannot be reconciled with the glorious Return of Jesus, when ‘every eye will see Him’. It is clearly stated that on the Day of wrath, He will not be seen. Psalms 18:11, Habakkuk 3:4, Psalms 11:4-6

We are told in Revelation 6:17, that the Sixth Seal judgement is the Day of the Lord’s wrath and then the Seventh Seal is an ‘about a 20 +/- year’ time gap when the world recovers, enabling righteous Israel, that is; every faithful Christian, from every race, nation and language, Revelation 5:9-10, to return to the holy Land and the rise of a One World government. Then, after most of the rest of the prophesies are fulfilled, Jesus will Return and commence His Millennial reign.

The main reason that most people fail to get what the Bible tells us, is that the Lord has placed on us a spirit of misunderstanding and ‘If you confuse yourself, then you will stay confused’ Isaiah 29:9-12. Only in the last days, before this shocking event, will a few finally understand what the Lord has planned. Daniel 12:9-10

Hello joshua.
Did you realize that the word temple #2411 is never once mentioned in Revelation?

Of course there is a distinction between the temple and the Holy of Holies where God dwells. This goes back to the very first letter in the very first word in the Bible. The B in Beginning represents God's desire to dwell with or become a part of His Creation though His Ben: Son. This does paint a new picture that God does not dwell in His church, He dwells in the Holy Place. Those who are sanctified and holy. For many are called but few are chosen.

I am told that when we become a Christian we can push the reset button and wipe the slate clean. We become born again we become a new creation in Christ. We can be forfilled, happy & content. Daily we are renewed so that life can not wear us down. We no longer live a life of quiet desperation.

If we have an end time, then that is followed by new beginning. Just when can we expect this to happen. As a people when do we become renewed, refreshed and restored

Great Topic. Thanks for posting.

I'm not sure who told you about the "reset button" but maybe its helpful to see how Jesus and the Apostles discuss this new life. The absolute best place to start in my view is Romans 5-8. Here's a bullet-point overview:
  • Chapter 6 explains what the "new life" is: complete immersion into the life of Jesus. Paul details that since we are connected to Christ in his death, burial and resurrection, we are able to walk in "newness of life". This is not a passive activity however, it is a daily cooperation with the Spirit to be renewed in our minds (letting our values, attitudes and goals be conformed to how Jesus lived - Romans 12:2). Paul makes this clear when he says in 6:11, "So you also must consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ". The word translated "consider" is related to the world "logic", it is a calculated accepting of the facts of what Jesus has done for us.

  • Chapter 7 directly addresses how and why we fail in our own human ability as Christians to keep God's law. The law runs on Spirit 2.0 and we are running Flesh 1.0. Although our new life starts in the mind, we feel unable to do what's right and not do what's wrong. Paul says that's because in our own efforts, we are too weak. Good news is coming though, because in…
  • Chapter 8, Paul says that the Spirit of God who now lives in us empowers us to keep the law "from the heart". It is through cooperating with the Spirit that we are able to "fulfill the righteous requirements of the law". How do we keep in step with the Spirit?
  1. Daily reflect on what the Father has done for you in Christ –preach the gospel to yourself. This fuels your gratitude, and a grateful heart seeks to please the gracious Giver.
  2. Listen to Paul in 6:11 - consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ. Notice the like all of 6, it is being "in Christ", (baptizo means "immersed") that we have this new life, it is not based on our own effort. It's been personally helpful to remind myself throughout the day that I am dead to sin, or in the words of Chapter 7, my marriage to sin has been dissolved by death and I have a new marriage partner, Christ. Although I DO sin, I no longer have no choice for, as Paul writes near the end of Chapter 6, "sin will have no dominion over you".
  3. Recognize that your own effort will NEVER give you victory over sin.The law is God's character, the only way to have God's character is to have God inside you, so…
  4. Begin training your mind to think on what God's like and trust that God the Holy Spirit is at work to "conform you to the likeness of the Son" (Romans 8:29). Elsewhere, Paul gives some "best practices": Colossians 3:1-17, Ephesians 4:20-24, for example. As a married man myself, it is by being a student of my wife that I come to understand and enjoy her and can therefore better serve, care for and know her. God has plainly revealed his thoughts in scripture and especially in Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2) and unlike human partners, He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

  5. Remember the goal is fellowship with God, not rule-keeping. 1 John 1:1-2:2 is designed to help us understand this : if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship with the Father and with his Son, whose blood covers our sin.

  6. When you sin, confess it…then trust with laser focus that he is faithful and just to
forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Confession is the "reset button". Good news! Jesus, the judge, is also our advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1-2) so nothing can separate us from the love of the Father in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:

  7. Lastly, the new life grows, sometimes quietly, sometimes in spurts, but the Magnificent Three (Father, Son and Spirit) all fully committed to complete the work they have begun in your life (Hebrews 8:8-12, Philippians 1:6, Philippians 2:12-13). They are very good at it (Titus 3:3-7, Romans 8:26-30).

Nothing new there.
California has always had fires but not this severe. The weather has been getting worse. We did not realize how much Obama was holding this back with his strong environmental control.

I'm not sure who told you about the "reset button"
I just started a book about the Hebrew Holidays in the Old Testament. Of course this begins with New Year and it sounds a lot like what it means to be born again for Christians.

Chapter 8, Paul says that the Spirit of God who now lives in us empowers us to keep the law "from the heart". It is through cooperating with the Spirit that we are able to "fulfill the righteous requirements of the law". How do we keep in step with the Spirit?
Law in Hebrew means to nail man to the cross. This is accomplished when we repent and this means to destroy the house. When Israel conquered a nation they destroyed the nation. So the people had nothing to go back to. When they saw their house go up in flames then they knew that they had no house to return to.

In the new heaven and new Earth, so after the second coming.
The New Heaven and the New Earth is after the 1,000 year reign of Christ when we will receive a Glorified body. Some people believe that this is when the resurrection takes place.

What about the refining fire of "Gehenna" mentioned by Jesus in Matt 23?
Repent in Hebrew means to burn the house. When the Hebrew Nation conquered a people they would burn down their house and home so that they had no place to return to. Then we can move on to our new life in Christ. We can not go back to our old life. Under the law we are to nail the old man to the cross. We are to die daily to self so we can life for God in the newness of life. We are to live a life of holiness and sanctification. We see this in their holiday of the New Year there is newness of life. Even though the new year is very much like the old. The beginning of the new year is the beginning of our new life in Christ.

"Gehenna" is the actual garbage dump outside of Jerusalam where they took the garbage to burn it. The fire was always burning there and it ever went out. This was a teaching method to show people what happens to those who are rejected by God.

Nothing new there.
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
