Eph 2 "8 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life."
We were created to do good works, but we are saved by faith not as a result of doing good works.
Yes we are saved by faith, we cannot earn salvation, but where do you get the idea we can't lose it by doing evil or not being obedient, or basically showing we really don't have the faith you mention because we don't believe Jesus when he says just what he did in the verse? I could refer you to more scripture but just that one covers it nicely
Edit:
I should add, I'm not just picking on you Josh, your original comment represents the beliefs of many here. IOW, I realize what you are saying is being taught and you didn't come up with it on your own. But at the same time, I'm sure you realize many are against the idea we don't have to be obedient in order to get to heaven, and I'm clearly one of them.
Some go so far as to feel it's a very dangerous doctrine to teach, for both those who believe it and those listening to it/taking it to heart.
