Fake news:

From your article "Men are told they have a natural sex drive, which is inherent to being male, she says. “They are the actors in sexual situations, but they are also taught they can’t control it.”

That is a lie. We are taught that we need to bridle our desires.
Bridle All Your Passions

The article clearly said the your church is trying to change their attitudes. it can take a long time to change a very well established way of thinking. JS and BY weren't exactly models of decorum with their many wives. Lust run amuck.

Then all of the writings of JS and your prophets should never be published, much less posted.

1. You need to summarize links instead of just posting them.

2. The Trib blocks anyone who uses an ad-blocker, so not everyone can read them.

3. The little bit people have been able to post here (I have an ad-blocker) makes it sound like the article is, to put it bluntly, alarmism. There's a segment of the modern "feminist" movement that has to drag anything and everything that doesn't agree with them, and this comes off as more of the same.

edit -> If you don't believe me about how they have to drag everything, it seems like every other week someone makes a loud pronouncement about how "problematic" they regard some video game character to be and how they've "fixed" the character by redesigning them (even if the redesign makes no sense in context) and if the video game company doesn't use their redesign it means that the company supports sexism. That's how absurd some of this is getting.

From your article "Men are told they have a natural sex drive, which is inherent to being male, she says. “They are the actors in sexual situations, but they are also taught they can’t control it.”

In other words, "rape culture".

A big issue with many modern-day feminists is that they assume:

1. All rape is male - on - female

2. It's the result of men being conditioned to believe that rape is OK, and that if men were taught not to rape it would all go away.

This is pretty much a "creed" in feminism, such that anyone who dares to challenge it - even other women - are accused of supporting "rape culture" and blaming the victim.

A few years ago there was actually an incident in which a female advice columnist lost her job because she dared to note that alcohol was involved in nearly half of on-campus sexual assaults and so people needed to be careful when consuming alcohol; the publication she was with got swarmed by angry modern-day feminists who accused her of victim-shaming and trying to force people to limit their choices, and so she was promptly thrown under the bus to appease them.

Interesting.

The article says:

"In modern Mormon-speak, young women still are taught that “virtue” remains nearly synonymous with chastity."

This is typical op-ed styled speculation. It is either true or false on a case-by-case basis.

If chastity is defined in Christian ethics as a matter of "sexual conduct," (which, it is) then how can being a victim of rape be considered a loss of chastity? The act of rape itself is not initiated by the victim, regardless of the variable factor of allure, whether by ignorance or positive intent on the part of the victim. The "sexual conduct" is borne.by the assailant. The art of attraction, however sinful or rebellious in its specific instance or general nature, is not synonymous with violence and/or fornication!

This should be obvious to any person who can reason for themselves. Who can imagine a young lady, while preparing to go out of doors, musing to herself: "Wow, I sure hope I get raped out there!"

The solution to this problem is in teaching young people to think critically. And that ship has, to a great extent, sailed.

However, there do exist some fine remedial tools for those who are ingrained (or "enslaved" might be an even better term) in identity politics, group-think, quasi-liberal, leftist culture, alt-right (name your poison). One such tool is a book called "The Lost Art Of Thinking" by Dr. Neil Nedley. Dr. Nedley is the president of Weimar Institute and University in Weimar, California, and an internal medicine specialist of 30+ years who, at one point, came to the realization that far too many physical ailments are largely the product of bona fide mental illness and that MDs are not taught, nor inclined to accept this. He has made it his life's mission to fulfill the Gospel Commission in this capacity. He runs comprehensive depression recovery and health programs through on-site treatments and prolific extension courses and seminars. He recommends other Christian mental health-specific authors, including William Backus and Lynn Clark.

I'm no defender of LDS history or doctrine. But the Bible speaks quite clearly about the lengths to which God goes to reach our hearts and minds in order to touch us and reason with us (apart from even scripture itself). I was raised a Southern Baptist, with all the sect-specific trappings that go with it. Even now, I struggle with -isms that are common to the faith of my choosing at adulthood. As long as we blame or depend upon institutions for our ignorance, the problems that arise from it, and the solutions to them, we will have a crutch hindering our progress to becoming the vessel into which God has longed to fashion us.

He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel. (Jeremiah 18:6)

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Apart from the shamelees promotion of favorite (admittedly commercial) authors and teachers, Dr. Nedley's instruction material is widely available on YouTube. For those interested, a good place to start is here:

Let's be careful that we don't appear to be accusing the OP of harboring or supporting a feminist agenda. Without checking any of her other posts, it seems to me that she is merely sensitive to the ill effects of a belief system from which she is grateful to have been liberated.

Which writings are you referring to? Joseph Smith did not write the Book of Mormon, it was written by ancient prophets same as the Pearl of Great Price. The D&C was written by scribes.

Oh, Yes---He just "translated" it with the stones in the hat thing. So then he didn't write anything and is no prophet?

Unless you're Joseph Smith Jr. or Brigham Young or any of the other early Mormons who lived before the Mormons realized that the only way Utah would be granted statehood was if they got rid of polygamy...in those cases, indulge your passions as much as you can! Don't worry -- "God" will give you the revelation you need to justify it before the wider society and your skeptical/hurt first wives! (e.g., Emma Smith)

I was called a femi-Nazi by a Mormon on CF many years ago. I want women to be treated as Christ expects men to treat women, and likewise each person of any gender should treat others fairly. I am far from a femi-Nazi as I was a SAHM ever since my first child was born.

I wonder if anyone read this:

This message was preached repeatedly by LDS leaders of that era and in a widely read church volume, President Spencer W. Kimball’s “The Miracle of Forgiveness.” It was encapsulated in a 1974 LDS First Presidency statement, which asserted that only if a woman resisted an attacker “with all her strength and energy” would she not be “guilty of unchastity.”
How outdated Mormon teachings may be aiding and abetting ‘rape culture’

I think the above is a stupid statement.

The first Mormon female I ever met had attempted suicide after having consensual sex. :( She was 17 or 18 when I met her in 1964.

I was referencing the snippet quoted elsewhere here in the thread.

But yes - there are people in this day and age who think some very wrong-headed things about rape and actively *discourage* any efforts to teach people how to avoid being victims.

There are times when God allowed polygamy but it was not to indulge passions as some people believe.

You're suggesting that you know why God allowed polygamy? Must be nice to know the mind of God.
