Doctrine and Covenants 129 states:

4 When a messenger comes saying he has a message from God, offer him your hand and request him to shake hands with you.

5 If he be an angel he will do so, and you will feel his hand.

6 If he be the spirit of a just man made perfect he will come in his glory; for that is the only way he can appear— 7 Ask him to shake hands with you, but he will not move, because it is contrary to the order of heaven for a just man to deceive; but he will still deliver his message.

8 If it be the devil as an angel of light, when you ask him to shake hands he will offer you his hand, and you will not feel anything; you may therefore detect him.

9 These are three grand keys whereby you may know whether any administration is from God.

QUESTIONS:

[1] Has this test been used or is this test being currently used by Latter Day Saints ???? Cite some examples.

[2] If it has not been used and is not used why would God give this revelation to Joseph Smith ???

NOTE: In past discussions of this my questions have not been answered.

Acts 20:37-38 They cried and cried. They were especially sad because Paul had said they would never see him again. They hugged him and kissed him. Then they went with him to the ship to say goodbye.

Romans 16:16 Salute one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ salute you.

1 Corinthians 16:20 All the brethren salute you. Salute one another with a holy kiss.

2 Corinthians 13:12 Salute one another with a holy kiss.

1 Thessalonians 5:26 Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.

Umm---how does a handshake relate to a kiss? No one was instructed to kiss someone in order to find out if they are an angel sent of God or not.

The LDS comment on this text says...

4–9, Keys are given whereby messengers from beyond the veil may be identified.

So why is this a non-discussed by LDS test.
The Burning Bosom is often discussed...

The D&C 129 handshake test is lukewarm at best.

This is not the Temple Handshake and there is no published non-disclosure obligation.

D&C 129 4 When a messenger comes saying he has a message from God, offer him your hand and request him to shake hands with you.

Any historical record of this EVER happening? It does not say "if a messenger comes" it says "WHEN."

Once again, you're trying to make a spectacle of things people hold sacred.

Pretty sure Jesus told folks not to.

What spectacle?---simple question, any record of it happening? How in the world is that something so sacred so sacred you can't talk about it when it is public knowledge? It's a handshake---not a sacred ritual! It's supposed to be how you can tell whether an angel is from God or not. If this were for real, it would be something that everyone should know---no matter what denomination. You are saying there is a way to determine this and then say it's too sacred to talk about! Makes no sense and if it were for real, you would be hiding something that would be of benefit to any person. Did JS know about this before he encountered Moroni? There is no record he shook his hand -- so the assumption would have to be made that he didn't know about it. "Sacred" is a total cop out with nothing to indicate sacredness and leaving many to be deceived by lack of this essential knowledge. I can't even imagine Jesus saying---"There is a way to tell if an angel is from God or not---but don't talk about it !!"

In your very own post, you go the angle of mockery as well.

Some people, of their own free will, choose to keep things to themselves.

You've been here 5 years telling us about Mormonism and it's history... now you get shy?

I have not heard of 1 person who was found to be in the presence of angels, so the test as far as I know has never been done. But I do look forward to meeting my first angel and the first thing I will do is offer him my hand, and test him.

Sorry, not the OP, but you are always interested in our Heavenly Mother so I thought I would show this to you.
I just ran across a woman by the name of Margaret Barker, who is a Methodist preacher and a OT, NT scholar, and has written many books and been awarded for her achievements. Read what told us on this youtube lecture:

This video is about her 400 page book on Heavenly Mother and her children

I am not impressed with how many degrees anyone has, nor how many books. From the greatest scholar to the lowliest lay person---Isa_8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
The Pope can also quote many scriptures to agree with what he says. She has no cklue to whast Rev is saying at all. The bible has no heavenly mother. She fails the test.

You have spent 2 hours (maybe) studying Revelations 12. She has spent her adult life studying Revelations 12. So to say she has no clue to what Revelation 12 is saying, is really cute.

For you to dismiss her scholarship because she disagrees with you is cute too. As she says, she teaches you how it agrees with the bible, but I'm sure you will not listen.

I thought maybe a non-Mormon source and a fully accredited Christian source would be interesting to everyone on this forum.

Some how I didn't think it would.

I thought, since you are so interested in Heavenly Mother, I would present you with a good non-Mormon source and a fully accredited Christian source (Methodist) that should help you understand that some mainline Christians believe there is a Heavenly Mother also.

Where do you get 2 hours? I had to study Rev in grade school!! Throughout high school. After I came back to God--for the past 35 years-----so what? The Pope will have studied the bible longer than you. Are you going by what the Pope says? I heard her. I will listen to the whole thing when you listen to our Rev videos! You still have not read the Great Controversy---why should I listen and read your stuff? I can read the bible and I have access to Hebrew and Greek, Aramaic and every translation available. She is not biblical, and I don't care how many scriptures she twists to fit her little theory. I had a couple women claiming to be Christian who had the same belief---I later learned they were from that Korean guy who claims to be Jesus on earth. It's the last days---unless you are fully grounded in the scriptures you will fall for all sorts of scripture twisting. You know the old joke---
Mat_27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
Luk_10:37 ….. Go, and do thou likewise.

Hey---it's scriptural!

Once again, you're trying to make a spectacle of things people hold sacred.

Pretty sure Jesus told folks not to.

We must not be reading the same Gospel texts. Jesus regularly infringed on the "sacred". He and His disciples picked grain on the Sabbath, something that infringed on the sacred sensibilities of some of the Pharisees. Jesus overturned the money-changer tables and chased the sacrificial animals out of the Temple. Jesus called the religious hypocrites white-washed sepulchers full of dead bones.

No, Jesus wasn't going around being a jerk--but He certainly was a disruptive element, regularly interfering with the comforts and privileges of those in power, and calling into question the authority of those who claimed authority.

Even "Render unto Caesar" is disruptive, it pretty clearly called out the hypocrisy of his interlocutors, as well as fundamentally robs Caesar of anything more than his worthless shiny coins.

Jesus is rest for the weary and those counted as worthless in society. But to those in comfort and in privilege, He is a threat to their very power. He is the Redeemer and Friend of sinners; He is the Judge of the living and the dead. He is the King of kings who treads upon the winepress of God's wrath; He is the Comfortor of men's souls who have labored under sin; He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Word of God, the Faithful and True.

He is Mercy for those who are without mercy.
He is Justice for those deprived of justice.
He is Love for those never loved.
He is Forgiveness for those who have sinned against God and neighbor.
He is the Just One and the Justifier of the unjust.
He is the First and He is the Last.

He is Jesus Christ Lord Pantokrator.

Spas_vsederzhitel_sinay.jpg

(Icon of Christ Pantokrator, Christ Ruler-of-All, one side of His face is soft and compassionate, the other side is stern. He is the Son of Man who came to serve and not be served, He is the Judge and Lord of over all creation to Whom all is made subject)
