  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

People could simply read the book of John and discover how to be saved (therefore it is *sufficient* for that purpose), but that doesn't also necessitate making the book infallible or John into a Christian version of the Oracle of Delphi. Infallibility applies to God alone. The bible is not God.
The Holy Scriptures are the pillar and foundation of our faith.

I always prove those people wrong.

Super, I have a question then, it's pretty simple but I'm confused, why do these say different things? You probably have a simple answer...

Ecclesiastes 1:4 King James Version (KJV)
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

2 Peter 3:10-13 King James Version (KJV)
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Do you think it is possible to be a follower of Christ without believing the Bible is 100% Gods word off of the simple fact that a person may not trust the intentions of human beings? Do you THINK the Bible is 100% the word of God or do you KNOW it’s 100% the word of God?
Depends on what they don’t believe.

Does it say clearly in the Bible that the pope has authority or do we read between the lines to come to that conclusion? If we are reading between than that’s an opinion and far from infallible I would think.
Good point. The Scriptures can be misused via eisegesis.

Because your confused...

Thank you Tone, but that doesn't answer logically for me to understand why they say different outcomes for the earth. I need an actual explanation probably. But LOL?

How do these verses show that the Word of God is a collection of writings compiled in the fourth century vs. the actual, living person of God?
Read them it will become manifest.

Are you proving them wrong with your interpretation of scripture? If so then is it possible that you Cohen actually be wrong?
Lol don’t know how Cohen got involved in the discussion.

You are kidding right? You want to pit poetry against prophecy?

Solomon was not speaking prophetically and Peter was not speaking poetically.

An orange is not a squirrel and a squirrel is not an orange.

I'm not sure why the word of God is not consistent between poetry and prophecy then?

That means Priest...for @Ken Rank ...:sohappy:

*Kohen or cohen (or kohein; Hebrew: כֹּהֵן kohen, "priest", pl. כֹּהֲנִים kohanim, "priests") is the Hebrew word for "priest", used in reference to the Aaronic priesthood.
I have taken biblical Hebrew for over a decade, but thanks for the book definition.

Understand. That is why the prophecy and theology threads are sometimes a confusing mess.

First question to ask is was Solomon speaking of the Eschaton or following the mundane “nothing new under the sun” theme?

Second question to ask is what do the Scriptures say after the time of Solomon. Meaning, what does progressive revelation inform us?

For example, would we expect to find eternal life in Messiah in the Torah?

What we find there is you will have a farm, health, lots of children, peace and abundance if you obey the Mosaic covenant.

Yes. What the Bible says, God says.

So human beings were in some kind of trance and had no will, God just possessed their bodies?

Sounds like spirit or automatic writing. Somehow, I don't think any Church Father actually believed this.

In the OT we find the Saviors likeness as burnt offerings of Lamb, giving way to Jesus' sacrifice, which is correctly the word of God. Also we have Isaac as a temptation to be sacrificed by Abraham, etc. I don't find false outcomes in that.

Also was Solomon a prophet of God, I'm asking because I don't know, and he was stating poetry, not prophecy? So then what is a poet doing speaking the words of God? I thought that was the role of a prophet.
