I admit, this is a good move for Mayor Pete as it has thrust him from some guy to a reasonably serious candidate. I think it was calculated.

I'd be disappointed if it wasn't calculated... Pence's stance on LGBT is well-known, and it would be shamefully unprepared of Buttigieg to not have a proper quip for it.

I am also under the impression that Pence is not that rigid, and they got along fairly well.

I get that vibe from him as well... a sort of inner conflict between what he's required to believe and his inner feelings. Unfortunately, it tends to vacillate between "hate the sin, love the sinner," and "Sorry, I'm just following orders."

It appears that despite being openly "gay," Pete Buttigieg is not only unapologetic but, for the first time in American presidential politics, a candidate that is willing to address the issue "head on" - without conceding the moral "high ground" to his Republican opponents!

Given that this President is "morally challenged" when it comes to his repeated marriage infidelities and his denials concerning paying "hush money" to inappropriate content stars and Playboy "centrefolds," it should be interesting as to how Trump and his conservative Christian supporters intend on dealing with a "gay" Democratic candidate - should Buttigieg emerge as a major candidate!

Mayor Pete was making the point that as a teenager in Indiana, he would have done anything in his power to have been born a "heterosexual!"

Given the fact that as human beings, we aren't in the business of making conscious decisions to determine our sexual orientation, Pete Buttigieg's comments highlight the fact that this decision was made for him - not by him!

For a 37 year old, small city mayor with no national name recognition, openly "gay" sexual orientation and a surname that is almost impossible to pronounce, Buttigieghas has more than his fair share of political strikes against him and yet he has managed to emerge as 3rd in the polls!

Hillary was top in the polls and the superior candidate, Donald J. Trump, squashed her like a little gnat. Trump will defeat all challengers as he has the support of the American People.

I think that just because one has certain "feelings" sometimes with say, the same sex, in this case, I think it's wrong of us and society to automatically assume that to mean, or that, "that", has to mean, or must mean only one thing, and that is wrong I think...

It's certainly not the truth, that's for sure...

Now if you having sexual thoughts about say, the same sex in this case, associated with those "feelings" or whatever, then OK, maybe your gay... But, if your not, it could be "something else"... I think we panic cause we do not fully understand it, and the fact that society is basically lying to us telling us that it must mean "only one thing" also, just makes it, or just makes things worse, especially for those of us who know that it's something else entirely...

I wonder if it goes all the way back to when we first began to relate to one another, as a species, and formed social orders and structures, and lived together, before we even ever had a language, ect, and the basic challenge and/or fight or flight response, the fear, adrenaline, anxiety, panic, ect, all those feelings, a rush of them all at once... It is our basic primal instincts being triggered, which is why we do not sometimes fully understand it sometimes, because we do not fully understand that, a lot of the time...

Anyway, just some thoughts...

God Bless!

I'm reminded of a Star Trek, where Riker is on a Klingon ship, and He takes command, then the Klingon captain returns, and anyway, at the end, before Riker gives the Klingon captain back his command, and steps down, he looks him up and down (note that part), chest puffed out, and kinda grunts or lets out a growl kind of, and then the Klingon captain, about knocks him out flat almost, and takes back his command, and tells the other Klingon's to get him off his ship, and one of the other Klingon's, who got to know Riker, said he had "understood the Klingon's better than he had thought"... It was a primal, primitive thing...

Anyway, to assume a "one and only explanation or reason" for something like this is not only, not wise, but it isn't even true either... Not in all, and maybe not even in a majority of cases maybe (either)...

I feel something or someone is trying to trick us, or deceive us, or has a plot against us, by triggering some of our very primal and most basic, most primitive instincts, or feelings, that they know we have lost sight of and do not fully understand and/or comprehend much now and have very little defense for or against today, how we will confuse it, ect...

And should we choose to try and know it, we could become even more lost, as some of it, is "dark" or one has to go through darkness basically, which could come with it's own problems for us...

God Bless!

His sexual proclivities plus the fact that his name starts with "Butt" - the jokes will practically write themselves.

South Bend, IN mayor Pete Buttigieg, who is gay and a Democratic Presidential contender, addressing VP Mike Pence on LGBT issues.

I've never heard of him, but I gotta admit, it's a good line.
Couldn't Pence have said the same thing to defend his position?

I don't know the context of the statement, but I don't see how that was a good line. Christians don't quarrel with men on their own terms, but rather reiterate what was already declared by the Creator to men.
Well....generally speaking, yes. Unless you are talking to someone who follows liberal Christian theology.

I really don't care if the president is gay, black, Asian, female, or a piece of lawn furniture. If the policies are good for me and the country, it shouldn't matter. Just as long as I am not called a homophobe because I disagree with his policies, everything will be great. However, based on the identity politics and constant playing the victim card, I really don't see that happening.
