The Lord entered Jerusalem on what should be Palm Saturday fulfilling the selection of the lambs type on Nissan 10.Are either of these ideas Biblical? What about a Wednesday death or Monday resurrection?
He was in the "house" of the Jews for several days with the last supper being on what we would call Tuesday night - (which was the preparation meal for Passover with the removal of all leaven and not the Passover meal itself- see the washing of feet and the sending out of Judas by the Lord).
He was arrested on (what we would call) Tuesday night and put on trial and crucified on Wed. morning.
He died late in the Wed. afternoon of the 14th of Nissan just before the "high" sabbath on Thursday the 15th.
He was put in the tomb at dusk on Wed. which was also the beginning of Thursday for the Jews.
The women bought and prepared spices on Friday - between the two sabbaths. There are no errors concerning the scriptures telling us that they rested on the sabbath and then bought and prepared spices and that they bought and prepared spices and then rested on the sabbath.
They came to the tomb while it was still dark on what we would call the predawn of Sunday.
He had already risen by dawn - having risen at dusk on the end of Saturday and what the Jews saw as the beginning of the 1st day of the week.
He was in the tomb exactly 72 hours. He rose "on" the 3rd day; "after" 3 days; and "in" 3 days just as Jesus said on various occasions.
That's 3 days and 3 nights exactly.
This was all in minute fulfillment of the O.T. type from Exodus and Leviticus. I.e.- the selection of the lambs on what the Jews called the "great sabbath"of the 10th; the cleansing of the house of all leaven at the last supper; the death of the sacrifice lamb and the application of His blood; the God caused "wandering" on the Egyptian side of the Red Sea until darkness on the sabbath of the 17th; the crossing of the Red Sea at night; the open show of Pharaoh (the type of Satan) at dawn; the waving of the first fruits offering before the Lord on the day after the sabbath following Passover ---- and many other such prophecies.
The traditional "Easter" times and days leave us with a N.T. that is replete with errors of various kinds. But traditions die hard and churches that don't hold the highest possible regard for the accuracy of the scriptures are ill equipped to correct the mistakes of some 2000 years of obviously inaccurate tradition.
