• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

And thank you brinny for your prayers. Friends and family are not very supportive as long as we struggle on our own, with only God to keep us going. I guess if either my wife or myself goes down more seriously God will send some help. This website is all we have otherwise, I think Teilhard de Chardin might have been onto something.

Who is Teilhard de Chardin? (Continuing to pray Norman) (((hug)))

Teilhard was a Roman Catholic priest who upset his Church so they packed him off to China where he worked as an archaeologist. However he stayed with his Church and developed a theology based on theistic evolution.
His writings are very difficult to comprehend, but simplistically he described God's Creation as moving from a geosphere through a biosphere and then into a noosphere (a sort of universal joining - the Internet!? - of mankind), culminating in an Omega point, the Second Coming of Christ.
Wow! Heavy stuff. He has been considered as anticipating the world wide web, but I think the devil has stepped in.

Jesus suffered physical pain beyond anything we could experience, for our sakes. But physical pain is relative, and He will not place upon us anything beyond what we are able to bare. This is the strength I gain from our Lord.
I constantly ask Him to relieve me from my physical discomforts (which are mild compared to what many have to suffer), and my emotional distress. He tells me to hold fast for my wife's sake. So here I am, praying to God, and sharing my thoughts here online.
God bless you all for reading.

Jesus suffered emotional pain, He sweated blood in the Garden of Gethsemene.
Many years ago, before I was with my wife, although I did not realise it at the time, an emotional crisis caused my finger nails to go black. I did not lose any nails, I was doing relief work with infant children and, since I used a descant recorder with them I covered the nails with medical tape so that they could not be seen.
Recently one small finger nail went black, and I also lost it. On both occasions my nails fully recovered with no medical intervention at all. I thank God. Thank you for reading.

To begin this post, I want to thank everyone for their prayers. Being a Christian website I know they are all very sincere.
However, I struggle day after day to stay on the surface. I am not suicidal, I have my marvellous wife to provide all of my care although she is not 100% well, and we both have God.
I sometimes lose faith in prayer, but our focus on God helps and we see Him as the Great Comforter. In my old age I do not see things getting any better. Family and friends send devotionals and supportive messages (like "Thank you God for another day, have a wonderful week"!?), but we do not get worldly support and we do not have the money to buy it. We are totally in God's hands.
Thank you for reading this far, God bless you all.

These are my top tips for mental health problems:

Talk to a therapist. Open up to them. Ask them if they can recommend some good coping techniques. I appreciated the opportunity to vent.
Exercise. Do you live near a gym? Do as much as possible. Go on short distance walks around the countryside. Research has shown that exercise is beneficial to mental health.
Pray. When DS and DD were babies in the NICU I prayed frequently for them.

@ChristianGirl_96.
Many thanks for your sound advice, unfortunately the first two suggestions are out of reach for me.
A therapist could be good, but I would want a professional and they cost money, beyond my resources. Physical exercise is good but I am wheelchair bound. I do what I can whilst lying in bed.
Prayer is good but like a strong drink the alleviation only lasts whilst I am doing it. The depression returns when I finish. God bless you.

I am having a bad weekend, this Easter. I have given up anti-depressant drugs months ago, but I am having an alcoholic drink in moderation. My wife is with me constantly, we are watching TV with the all of the accompanying Easter messages and worship.
The problem with this sort of TV is that it only seems to depict healthy Christians, singing and happy. Their message is good but it is not helping me. Only my wife is doing that. Why?

I do not know why, but my sojourn into CF is not working as well as it did when I first joined. My experience here is becoming similar to my experience in RL.
My depression is getting worse, but thank you God I am holding on and not getting anywhere near suicidal. My wife is unbelievably supportive, and as a poster here has said I am seeing God through my wife.
My physical disabilities get no worse but there is little improvement, and professional services appear to do little to help and we cannot afford the best that might be available. All we have, my wife and myself, is each other and Jesus, until death do us part.
I sometimes wonder that the lack of responses to my posts, I have started several threads but not contributed to many others, may be one reason. I pray to God to guide me in my understanding of His Word, which is Jesus. Another poster here has said that in their retirement they would not bother about theology, but only fast, pray, attend church and do some voluntary work. I do the first two and have morning devotions with my wife, but at the moment CF is my only outlet for the second two suggestions.
Perhaps if I read some other posters' threads and offer prayers and support, this would get me participating in some sort of voluntary activity. What do you think, or does my leanings towards a controversial interpretation of the Scriptures put people off?
God bless you all, and thank you for your prayers.

I looked forward to my retirement from school teaching after a wonderful God-given life (somewhat sinful - not criminal, just over-indulgence in worldly pleasures), and married my marvellously spiritual Christian wife when I was 50 years old.
We are now approaching our 80's but our retirement pleasures took a blow when I contracted a chronic wound on my ankle at 71 years old.
My fantastic wife has dressed it twice per week for six years, I have had three hospital stays which included a failed skin graft, but my wife keeps going on without complaining, cooking, cleaning and looking after me. If it wasn't for my love for her, and of course my overwhelming appreciation of her love for me, I would give up.
We do not go to church, we pray together, our doctor, a nephew, is our only confident whom we can fully trust. I sometimes think of the elderly couple who stayed in bed in the film "Titanic" whilst everyone else was rushing around on the deck of the sinking ship. For us, the sinking ship is the world, it is doomed. There abounds so much wickedness, corruption and hedonism.
Sorry for the rant, but where do we go from here!?

This may help????

I've been taking MSM since 1999... awesome stuff....

Many thanks. There is a lot to read, it sounds good. I am surprised my GP has not recommended it. I will have to ask him.
My mild depression comes and goes in waves. I can take my mind off it by playing silly games on the computer. Watching TV (anything, news, sport, etc.) does not help at all.
In hospital I used to take a pen and a school exercise book and I wrote a lot (it was all I had, except the Bible but I could not get the motivation to read it, apart from with an SDA Quarterly I was given). Now at home I have a laptop, and I occasionally type out my hospital writings.
However, my main motivation, meagre as it is, comes from posting on CF. I hope my threads are not boring to too many people, but it is passing the time and puts away my depression, at least whilst I am writing.
Thank you again for all prayers and support, I will keep going for my wife's sake and of course for God's sake.

Generally speaking your GP will NOT be allowed to mention it because Big Pharma clamps down pretty hard on any low cost nutritional products like that......

My depression does not abate. I drink alcohol too much having given up the anti-depression pills prescribed by my doctor. Secular friends, along with my doctor, suggest a therapist. My wife and myself decline, we pray to God.
Thank you again here for all your prayers, for us, my wife and myself, it's all we have. Our ailments are not life threatening, but our old age is not pleasant. God bless you all.

An update if anyone cares to respond. My depression has abated somewjhat; but my physical disabilities have not. The chronic wound on my ankle (six years now) is healing slowly but it is very sore and keeps me in bed all day.
My wife and myself are losing faith in mainstream medical care, and we could not afford private care. We have a friend who runs an independent house church and he comes to us every Sunday to administer Holy Communion, which we greatly appreciate. I am sure my depression has lessened because of this, and all of your prayers here. I am obviously more accepting of my condition, mild compared to so many others, and God is my Comforter. God bless my wife, family, friends and everyone here.

LORD, we come before you to lift up Norman in prayer, LORD, that you would heal him and keep him in perfect health, all the days of his life, and that you would bless him, amen.
