  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

It's not one person.
Well you know..They say alcohol brings out the true person is somebody. I would suggest that, but drinking all day every day probably isn't a good idea.

I don't want to bring out my real personality. I'm just sick of being shy and socially isolated. Although in some ways.. I'm sick of my real personality too... and feel like acting out a persona.. but still.

Hmm. OK. It'll be alright. We just need some new blood to grace CF Singles I think. That Labelle poster seemed nice enough. I haven't seen her on for a bit though.

Why are we talking about CF Singles? I'm talking about real life. The internet is pretty hard for me to at least feel connection with other people. Real life I at least get somewhat of a pulse, lol.

Hmm. To each his or her own. I guess for me (at least lately) real life has become a bit monotonous with the same people and routines. You know..work, family..I'm thinking that will change once opportunities open back up to get out more and engage different places and people.

Do you feel connections with others through the internet?

Not really. Well, I haven't for a long time anyway. For me, the internet and my own activities on it (mainly writing) give me the opportunities to live a life that currently isn't available to me in the world. . (I can think of one exception to that I'll leave out.) But there isn't much difference between who I am on here and who I am and what I do in real life. It's a life of adventure. And unfortunately there isn't many who want to sign up for the trip.

Do you have trouble connecting with people in real life too?

Lol. At this point we'd probably need to define what connecting with others means.
I'm a people person. I can engage with almost anybody. There have been exceptions to that which have left me retreating. But I'll be honest.. When it comes to dating, I haven't had much luck. It'd be easy for me to say that it was all due to them. But it's been a learning process too with getting to know things I need to work on etc.

Hmm.. connecting as in loving the person, not viewing them as just another person.

Oh okay. Then in that case, yes. We might be looking at that thru different world views. But my definition of that would be to treat others as I would like them to treat me. And I'll let God be the judge of that. But if I were to examine myself on it, however, I'd have to share with you that sometimes that changes. The hardest part for me is loving someone when they are out right hostile and vicious toward me. Even those that are out of the way I can usually relate and connect to by simply applying the art of listening and relying on grace to put myself in their shoes if I needed to understand better.

It's easy to act out "love" but do you feel it emotionally?

Given that definition I guess I "love" people.. but it ultimately feels empty.

I think it will hit closer to home with some folks when that becomes personal to them. For instance, I was thinking of Barack Obama (out of all people) and his stance on being pro-abortion. And I started pondering on the what-ifs of things that could happen say with his children. Probably won't happen but let's say all his daughters got preggo and decided to abort their babies. I think that would affect Obama more in his love and emotions rather than sitting on the sidelines and looking at the perspective from the outside in. But to more pointedly answer you, (and again I have to come at it from my personal worldview) I believe that love is a choice. We can come about it any number of different ways. But if we decide to actually do it (love) then it doesn't necessarily need to be accompanied by emotions though many times it is. But other times it doesn't. It just takes time.

I have to be reminded how different some people view "love".

Could one really feel close to someone who's love is mostly actions? What if they are just doing these "actions" to be a better Christian or something?

Maybe they know that person's love language is acts of service and they're just trying to speak to that particular person and show them the love of God.

Or maybe they are make believers or unbelievers and are setting out to appease or win the affection or attention of that person. I know that's the way it was in my home growing up. my parents tried winning my love by buying me things.

If the emotions are not high.. where is the pure desire?

No offense.. but if I found out someone was being nice to me to fulfill some Christian obligation I would feel uncool and have no connection with them.

Seems like a more genuine act of love. Despite our society probably viewing it as highly shallow. I think it better matches our evolutionary psychology.
