  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No Compromise at the Border.

We can't care for the poor people we already have.

"Look, that guy is drowning. Quick, pour some water on him."

That we won't care for the poor is not the same as can't.

Nothing is free. Nothing good is ever free. However, i believe the poor should have free healthcare. But if one wants good HC, they better pay for it. Facts of life.

Actually the US pays almost 2X as much per capita for healthcare than most of the European developed democracies and yet we don't have as good a healthcare outcomes.

Many problems are made unnecessarily complex by people who like that sort of thing (and are in a position to do so).

Indeed. Enforce employment verification.

...which is currently not available...for states like Arizona that require e-verify:

three guesses why it's down? -- it's not a priority for Trump -- who has no interest in removing the number one incentive for illegal immigration.

The point of my comment was not to suggest that we have a perfect solution...far from it. Many here criticise the various strategies employed by our governments...

No, my point was to illustrate the strategies that the asylum seekers adopt....we have no land border to walk across, so they have come by sea.

Again, while Donald’s Wall will fail, what is to stop asylum seekers from your south adopting a similar strategy...?

Let's build the wall and see.

We might copy Australia and haul them off to some island or tug them back where they came from.

They also pay sales taxes, fuel taxes, rent, etc.

There is the argument that this foreign aid is better than just having the Government send checks to other governments.

That's a fair point.

That we won't care for the poor is not the same as can't.

We do try to care for our poor, but they are always a moving target.

Europeans generally are more health conscious. They also have higher taxes and some have pretty good trade surpluses...with us, so they have more money for social programs. So, apples/oranges.

Trump will give. The dems have nothing to lose by standing their ground.

I'm not so sure of that. Why don't they give Trump his measly $5 billion. When the wall fails they can say I told you so. Problem solved.
Of course the problem is that they know the wall will succeed, thus their fear and intransigence.

It's over one way or the other, Trump is simply overplaying his hand. He didn't want to compromise so now he realizes no wall is a losing proposition. It was the lack of compromise that got us here and it's just a question of how much rope he is going to get before he hangs himself.
