  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No Compromise at the Border.

Ill help you out. Here is their platform plank on immigration:
Immigration Reform - Democrats

They are looking for a path to citizenship for DACA recipients - those, who through no action of their own, were brought over illegally as children by their parents. This is not blanket amnesty. 75% of Republicans favor this, so I guess by your logic, Republicans favor open boarders?

Americans Oppose Border Walls, Favor Dealing With DACA

And advocacy groups are not the Democrat party.

Cite their proposed legislation.

Now imagine if you also PAID THEM MONEY when they got over your fence and they did a lot of the yardwork for you.

So you put the fence and the dogs and you still want your yardwork done cheaply.

Let's add a new wrinkle: your neighbors are busy inviting these folks in, giving them money to do their yards and they walk them over to your house to do your lawn as well.

That's America circa 2019.

I'm guessing those yard workers have work permits.

Sure it is. How will a wall stop overstays? How will a wall stop stuff being smuggled in through ports of entry? How will a wall stop drones or tunnels?

Who said a wall would?

I agree that Trump should have taken the deal. Amnesty for 700,000 DACA folks is a small price to pay to keep millions of illegals out in the future via the wall.
MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE INCAPABLE OF CLIMBING LADDERS OR USING KNOTTED ROPES!

Well, if you can't climb a ladder you're probably not suited to work on my house anyway.

Ummm, yeah, sure. Don't worry, the world really is as simple as you want it to be. (Don't ever visit Southern California or live there... just sayin'.)

It's a great goal to want to be the country that punishes innocent people because we are scared of the idea of poor people.

This is America being Great Again I suppose.

Well, if you can't climb a ladder you're probably not suited to work on my house anyway.

After it is evident that they cannot breach the wall/fence/barrier they will likely stop coming.

Ladders are hard to carry, and are a dead giveaway. Have you ever climbed a knotted rope?

Many problems are made unnecessarily complex by people who like that sort of thing (and are in a position to do so).

We can't care for the poor people we already have.

*snerk* Sure they do. And they only accept payment in cash.

Mexicans generally like to deal in cash. They even pay Western Union in cash when sending it ($50 Billion per year) out of the country.

You are the one who claimed this is a simple problem. If it was a simple problem a simplistic solution like the wall would solve it. Except it won't.

A wall is 'simply' intended to prevent illegals (and some drugs) from crossing the border 'overland'. No one is proposing a wall high enough to stop planes and drones, or one deep enough to prevent tunneling. That would be silly. :swoon:

For what it’s worth...

My country (Australia) has also faced the problem of asylum seekers wishing to enter our borders.

It’s a little different here. Being entirely surrounded by ocean (yes, Donald, very wet ocean....), these refugees do not walk across our borders...they arrive by boat. These boats are frequently provided by people smugglers and are often in very bad repair, usually overloaded and some of them sink during the journey.

But still they come....because they’re desperate. They know they will be stopped and detained by our authorities, but still they have come.

If ‘Donald’s Wall’ has the effect that he has claimed (it won’t), what’s to stop the same kind of ‘industry’ springing up around the maritime borders of the US...?

Australia asylum: Why is it controversial?

You do know that we are on the...internet (the information superhighway). ;)

Australia doesn't even want wealthy Anglo immigrants. They welcome tourists with smile, and wave them goodbye with a bigger one.

They also pay sales taxes, fuel taxes, rent, etc.

There is the argument that this foreign aid is better than just having the Government send checks to other governments.

The point of my comment was not to suggest that we have a perfect solution...far from it. Many here criticise the various strategies employed by our governments...

No, my point was to illustrate the strategies that the asylum seekers adopt....we have no land border to walk across, so they have come by sea.

Again, while Donald’s Wall will fail, what is to stop asylum seekers from your south adopting a similar strategy...?
