No i dont agree. Show me more scriptures, maybe you can persuade me.
I'm sure you can google the cases of the baptism of the HS in Acts like the rest of us can, they all are indiscriminate in their manifestations. This is beginning to feel like a deflecting game and you're not really engaging the topic at all. I'm going to hold you accountable to what you say and ask you to defend your answer. why don't you agree?

I think you're forgetting I have unanswered questions that are you have yet to engage. I'm am not trying to deflect but I also don't want it deflected back to me. let's be reasonable here with our requests, and not bury them unanswered, engage them then move on to the next.

You just told me to google my answer, now you demand that i explain mine? Google it.

I told you to google the scripture not the answer. I've already told you the answer which is all examples of the manifestations of the baptism of the HS in Acts are indiscriminately given which conflicts in method with the teachings in Corinthians. you have told me you disagree but don't care to tell me why and use the excuse that you want to see more scripture. I cannot continue this conversation if you don't show me you wish to engage the questions rather than play with them and all I see is the latter.

Well, I tend to toss out ideas a lot, and sometimes they are wrong, sometimes they are accurate.
do you care to show me why your popped in the head answer agrees with scripture? I defend my position through scripture and if something pops in my head I check to see if it can be responsibly supported in scripture (as least I try). Since as this stands it remains as a "popped in your head" thought I will let you mature it further with scripture before I'll engage it.

Well, that bit of 1 Corinthians 14 has not been ripped out of your Bible! ^_^^_^^_^^_^^_^^_^^_^

Hey, here's a thought - those who rail at Charismatics and bash them with Cessationist claptrap that discredits tongues, may be in disobedience to the Spirit, because they are effectively forbidding people speaking in tongues by coming up with theologically sounding garbage!
No one speaks in tongues. You make rhyming noises, not languages. They did speak in tongues at Corinth ...you were not there. You missed it. Making believe you do does not make it so..the fact that you mock biblical doctrine is no surprise as you do not understand it.

No need for it... Paul found a need for it at one time...

3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4 And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. - Acts 28

6 Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
That is why they were signs of an Apostle 2 cor12:12

Well, without going back over the entire book of Acts I can't be sure... but if I remember correctly speaking in tongues in Acts was the result of the Spirit falling on someone at the time of their conversion or the laying on of hands of the Apostles. This was, therefore, generally in the context of their conversion. However, the passage in 1st Corinthians 14 is dealing with the issues surrounding how things ought to be done in the context of believers meeting together for mutual edification. That is why I thought that perhaps the reconciling of the apparent discrepancy between Acts tongues manifestations and the instructions in 1st Corinthians 14 was one of context.

I speak in Tongues. It is a beautiful and Holy language. I also know Oscar's Gift of Tongues is a real and genuine Gift of The Holy Spirit. It is one thing, to disagree on scripture interpretation, but it is another thing to discredit that which proceeds from The Holy Spirit. Thus, the warning is given to all.

Here is what I require from you, according to scripture. Translation of said "Tongues".

Therefore, I propose to test you.

Give me 10 sentences in your "Tongues", and I want to know what specific language it is. I want them written down, here, and open before all. Then I want your translation of those 10 sentences in English under each line, each word highlighted in a unique color (as best as translation allows) in both languages to match.

Example:

[Tongue (Spanish)]: "Jesucristo es el SEÑOR de todos."

[Translation (English)]: "Jesus Christ is LORD of all."

Then I am going to ask another person who claims to be able to speak such and ask them to translate such (or someone they know to translate such), to do so. But before I do that, I am going to ask them to (publically) translate your "Tongue" into English, and do the same. (I will be testing for Google translate which is notoriously horrible in translating in certain languages)

If true, then the results of this test should come out the same. Shouldn't it? For God is not the author of confusion.

What language do you speak...?
Revelation 22:11-15 ...18,19 also contains warnings given to all

If prayer in tongues and praise is to be directed to God, then let Him provide the translation. After all, He is the one who understands it. I don't go around telling everyone what I say to God in the privacy of my own room when I pray in English, so I am not about to try to do it when I pray in tongues. My prayers are for His earls only and He is not a gossip who reveals private prayers to others who don't have a right to know the details of them.

I have heard people say that if you dont speak in tongues then you're not baptized in this spirit. Is this true or false? Is it biblical or not biblical? Thank you.

The spiritual gifts are explained in detail in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 (AMP)
The day of Pentecost is mentioned in Acts 2:1-4. This is when the holy spirit came upon 3000 people.
Meaning they were Baptised in the Holy Spirit.

Those who accepted his message were Baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread(including the Lord's supper) and to prayer. (Acts 2:41-42) AMP

False. Tongues are 100% debatable and some scholars think the gift was for the Apostles alone. Something that is debatable can not dictate salvation. Do you follow Jesus? That is the only question that matters and that is the only thing that saves anyone. Not oil, not water. Just Jesus.

Absolutely! If a person is going to say that those who speak in tongues are doing so falsely, they have to be consistent with all the Scripture that describes false people. False people are those who walk in the flesh, hating their brothers and sisters, involved in sexual immorality, contentious and argumentative, jealous, envious, living riotously, haters of God, rebellious against authority, treading underfoot the cross of Christ, full of pride, whose god is their belly, disrespecting the body and blood of the Lord, worshiping idols and encouraging others to do so.

Frankly, I have never met anyone who prays or speaks in tongues who can fit the description above. I have found that, although they have faults just like everyone else, and have battles with the flesh just like all of us, their hearts have been toward Jesus, encouraged others to have faith and trust in Him, and have sought holiness with all their hearts.

If people are going to accuse others of being false, they need to provide evidence that they are behaving in all the ways false hypocrites do, not just single tongues out and say that a person is totally false and a religious hypocrite just because they do speak in tongues.

Many Christian groups are mistaken in their beliefs and practices. That doesn't make them false Christians.
  • Salvation Army are mistaken in not practicing baptism or communion.
  • Lutherans are mistaken in over-emphasizing the importance of baptism.
  • 7th Day folks are mistaken in their view of the Sabbath.
  • Anglicans are mistaken in baptizing babies.
  • EO are mistaken in emphasizing church tradition.
  • Pentecostals and charismatics are mistaken in thinking they speak in NT tongues.
