  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Am thinking, we ought to Understand the reasons as to why God gave us the Old(the first) covenant (knowing that we wouldn't be made perfect therein), so that at a time appointed he might establish a New(second) covenant(which makes us perfect in Christ Jesus).

For I understand that in all this, His intention was for to perfect an everlasting House or Church unto Himself.(Isaiah 66:1-2), in fact, I would that we meditate on the whole chapter 66 of Isaiah.

True if you do not understand the OLD COVENANT how can we understand what the NEW is?

For answering such a question, who did Jesus and every new testament writer consult? They consulted the prophets. They consulted the old testament, because there was no new testament yet.

The old testament, tells us that when judgement day comes, those that will be saved, will be those that place their faith in Him for their justification, but that walk in and keep God's laws and commandments, humble themselves before Him, and walk righteously. They walk righteously because they not only keep God's laws and commandments, but they also walk blamelessly before men.

In other words, they treat others as they wish to be treated. They don't gossip, they don't mock, they don't ridicule, or condescend, they're kind, and loving to people, but will rebuke brothers and sisters walking in sin, and will (with much prayer) avoid walking in sin as well. They may slip up and make mistakes, but they will get back up, repent, and get better, leaning on Him all the while.

Good points Devin. Everything that we have from the NEW TESTAMENT scriptures come from the OLD TESTAMENT writings. In the days of Jesus and the Apostles the OLD TESTAMENT was their bible. Thank you this post was refreshing. Thanks for sharing it.

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word.

The tablets written in stone or the letter or word, of the Law kills, and causes sin to abound or get worse... That is because the "true meaning" of it, the true spirit of it or behind it and it's intent, could not be known or fully expressed or understood, in and by writing of any kind... or any letter of any law...

"The Law" the OC, OT Law, Biblical law, it's spirit is and was (and will always be) "Love"... But we cannot see that by the "letter" of it, and seem to be even more blind to the laws True Spirit, when we purposely try to observe and obey the law, or any letter of any law, other than the "law that is within" (written on) individual hearts, on or in their conscience, or how God speaks to you through your conscience... Through born again converted hearts and consciences...

It is not the same as the letter, though the two are in complete agreement...

But you cannot attain any enlightenment by the letter, you cannot know what Love is by the letter, or by observing the letter... The Spirit in and of and behind the law (Love) does not come by the law, but by faith and faith alone...

God Bless!
well put

WHO IS GOD'S TRUE CHURCH ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD?

Firstly I believe God has his people in EVERY CHURCH as long as they are living up to all the KNOWLEDGE God has revealed to them through his WORD.

JOHN 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

However God is calling his people out from following man made traditions to worship God in Spirit and in truth.

JOHN 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

WHO IS GOD'S CHURCH?

IS GOD'S CHURCH A BUILDING or a CHURCH ORGANISATION?

Before we look at who God's WORD says is God's true Church let's start off by looking at the GREEK meaning of the word Church which is ἐκκλησία which means a calling out or meeting.

This links in very nicely with

MATTHEW 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

A Church therefore is the people the BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD. They are the called out and Jesus is in the midst of them.

WHO IS GOD'S TRUE CHURCH ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD?

1 JOHN 2:3-4
3, And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep <ALL> his commandments. 4, He that saith, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

REVELATION 12:17
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

REVELATION 14:12
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

REVELATION 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Notice God's people keep ALL of God's Commandments through FAITH in Christ?

NOTE: God's saints keep ALL THE COMMANDMENTS of God. It is these people that are a remnant that the devil is making war with. They are called God's saints and these are the ones that have right to the tree of life.

How many Church's do you see keeping all of God's Commandments?

What are your thoughts?

"Let him who boasts boast in the Lord" I rejoice with you that you are a part of the Christ's church, let us ensure we give him the glory in all things we do.

The Old Covenant, the covenant part (the letter of the law) has been abolished, and replaced, but not what we can learn or glean from the OT stories and it's writings...

People want to know why all the great darkness in the OT...? Well, It was time of darkness, and God was filling up the cup-full of the sin(s) of mankind to the full, and making him drink it all up, showing them the fullness (knowledge of) sin and all it's consequences, through experience, Their experience(s), and showing them what seemingly very dark acts might be required to fix it, in some cases...

The Law (letter of the law) makes or made nothing perfect, and far from it and actually makes things much worse, much more sinful, much more dark for mankind...

I don't know if it was a time of saving, maybe only sparing for some IDK...? The Law was given to us to our sin worse, and is that way a curse upon us, if we try to follow and obey the letter of the law, and God brought it upon us and gave it to us in anger back then... So then, the letter of the law is the source of Gods' curse and wrath upon us...

It was not meant to better, improve, or make anything better in any way, at any time, and actually was meant to make things worse...

And very bad, that is why you see so much darkness in the OT...

We are supposed to be free of that now, but I wonder if we really are or will (be)...

If we forget the past we are doomed to repeat it or may have to go through it again, and again, and again...

Who knows...?

All the reformation did though it point people back to the Word of God. I would have thought that it where we need to be don't you think?

All the law can do is expose mankind's sin, give you the knowledge of sin and put a curse upon you and condemn you... It cannot save you or make anything perfect and will actually have the opposite effect if try to follow and do it by the letter of it...

So, why did, or why would God do that to us back then...? Curse us like that, deceive us like that, some might say...? Cause us (and our sin) to be and become much and much more worse, much faster and quicker then it would normally happen... How is that love...?

What was the purpose of all that back then, with God and us...?

It is shown how it is Love in and by it's being fulfilled in Jesus Christ... For we know the law was only meant to pave the way for Jesus Christ... We had to have something to be saved from to need a savior, and that is the letter or curse of the law, and the judgement it brings upon all of us...

God causing sin in the OT to get very, very much bad and much worse, and abound, quicker, faster, was/is an act of love, his bringing a curse upon us was and act of Love, and we will not fully understand God until we know or understand that...

God Bless!

Now, in my previous writings I have purposed to bring to light that Adam was created for to purpose the first covenant, this is why his nakedness was covered by animal skin, and this also is the reason as to why Israel was celebrated into the Sabbath referring their Rest to the Rest of Genesis(Exodus 20:8-11)

And so, if these things of the old covenant be a shadow of the things of the new covenant(Colossians 2:17), how would we relate them unto this House(Church) of the Word of God?

For we know that God meant to build Himself a Spiritual House in us, but first He had to layout the plan of the House(Blue print), even in Adam, so that at the time appointed He might establish the House in Christ Jesus.
Wouldn't He then not follow His own plan(blue print) to establish the House? God forbid, yet He follows the details written in blue print.
The old covenant is fulfilled in the new covenant. Every detail in the old covenant has it's establishment in the new. It may not be implemented in the exact way as it was in the flesh, but it sure is settled in the law of the Spirit in Christ Jesus.

It's our job to seek the Kingdom of God, it's our job to seek the effect of Christ in these things. When He said ask and it shall be given you, He wasn't talking about men which ask of him in the flesh, but He was talking about men which ask of him in these things pertaining to the Spirit.

We cannot be made clean in the blood of animals, now that the perfect blood has been given;
we cannot rest in the Rest of the of Adam, now that the perfect Rest has been promised in Christ after His finished work of Salvation is completed.

For by acknowledging the Way of God after His blue print in the old covenant, we are given to see this.

God bless you all.

This post is exactly what is wrong with the church today. There is no unification only different factions that say if group B doesn't do what group A does they are all going to hell or that those others are lost sheep and we should pray for them to see the "truth" ( which could just be wrong interpretation) and vice versa. There are churches that I believe leave out important core fundamentals like baptism in Jesus name. I pray that God will finally unify the church from what it has become because it needs it and the truth desperately. Not someones personal interpretation. Everyone has there own interpretation but that doesn't make it fact.

Everything is as it should be. We have the Word of God. Martin Luther helped bring the world out of the dark ages (scripture wise)

Well that is not true brother. If you have no law then you have no knowledge of what sin is?

ROMANS 3:20, Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

ROMANS 7:7, What shall we say then? is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, you shall not covet.

JAMES 2:10-11 [10], For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.[11], For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet you kill, you are become a transgressor of the law.

People want to know why all the great darkness in the OT...? Well, It was time of darkness, and God was filling up the cup-full of the sin(s) of mankind to the full, and making him drink it all up, showing them the fullness (knowledge of) sin and all it's consequences, through experience, Their experience(s), and showing them what seemingly very dark acts might be required to fix it, in some cases

There was not darkness in the OLD COVENANT. People were saved in the same way that we are saved today and that is by FAITH *HEBREWS 11. The difference is that the sin offerings from the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 pointed forward to the coming of the Messaiah his death, resurrection and role as our great high Priest in the heavenly Sanctuary and God's plan of salvation under the NEW COVENANT. Now we look back by faith to Jesus under the NEW COVENANT of LOVE *HEBREWS 8:10-12.

The Law (letter of the law) makes or made nothing perfect, and far from it and actually makes things much worse, much more sinful, much more dark for mankind...I don't know if it was a time of saving, maybe only sparing for some IDK...? The Law was given to us to our sin worse, and is that way a curse upon us, if we try to follow and obey the letter of the law, and God brought it upon us and gave it to us in anger back then... So then, the letter of the law is the source of Gods' curse and wrath upon us...It was not meant to better, improve, or make anything better in any way, at any time, and actually was meant to make things worse...And very bad, that is why you see so much darkness in the OT...We are supposed to be free of that now, but I wonder if we really are or will (be)...If we forget the past we are doomed to repeat it or may have to go through it again, and again, and again...Who knows...?

Your mixing up your scriptures. The scripture you part quote is from HEBREWS 7:11-19. This is talking about the laws of the Levitical Priesthood not the 10 commandments. This being said God's LAW (10 Commandments) makes nothing perfect. It is simply the standard of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; JAMES 2:10-11; PSALMS 119:172. You cannot attain to it and you cannot get RIGHTEOUSNESS from it. It shows us our need of Christ that we might be forgiven by Faith. *GALATIANS 3:22-25.

If you have no LAW you have no KNOWLEDGE of what sin is.
If you have no KNOWLEDGE of what sin you do not know your a sinner in need of a Saviour
If you have no need of a Saviour you have no salvation.
If you have no salvation you are lost.

Hope this helps...

How many Church's do you see keeping all of God's Commandments?

What are your thoughts?

What are my thoughts?
i) That the church is all Christians; all who have been born again, accepted Jesus a Saviour and Lord and have received his Holy Spirit, who affirms that they are children of God.

ii) Jesus told the Pharisees that he had come to fulfill the law and the prophets.
Jesus fulfilled the sacrifices that needed to be offered for sin and guilt, was a thanksgiving offering to God and the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, John 1:29. Clearly we don't offer animal sacrifices according to the Jewish law - even the Jews don't do that. WE don't offer them because Jesus' sacrifice fulfilled these laws.

iii) The Israelites were commanded not to eat certain foods, not to wear clothes with mixed fibres and refrain from touching people with skin conditions or who were bleeding. This was to show that they were keeping themselves pure and holy. But Jesus, who was sinless even though he touched people with skin conditions, has made us holy by giving us his Holy Spirit, and purified us from sin by dying so that we could be forgiven and reconciled to God.

iv) If you are saying that Christians need to keep all the OT laws, how do you apply that? As I said, Jesus has fulfilled those pertaining to forgiveness and holiness.

v) If you are saying that Christians need to keep ALL the OT laws, then according to Paul, you are saying that Christ died for nothing.

vi) Do you keep ALL the OT laws - including, not trimming your beard, rising in the presence of older people, not going near women at certain times of the month and stoning anyone who does not keep the Sabbath?

vii) Or is this thread just a way of bashing people who don't keep Saturday as a Sabbath day?

The NT says that if you keep the law you have to keep ALL of it - if you break one little bit, you are guilty of breaking all of it. So you may keep the 7th day as a Sabbath, in the belief that you have to keep ALL the laws, but if you fail to keep every other command, you are still a lawbreaker and no better than someone who observes the Sabbath on a Sunday, (which presumably you think is a sin.)

We no longer need to do animal sacrifices now do we? We are to live by EVERY WORD that proceeds out of the mouth of God as applied to the NEW COVENANT. *MATTHEW 4:4

Yes no more sacrifices are necessary. So scratch one commandment. What about circumcision? Do we still need to be circumcised? If not please explain why.

The Church described in the NT is where Christians can take their disagreements and they would be settled.
It is a bit more difficult when you have 40,000 different denominations to choose from. What happens if there is a disagreement between Christians of differing denominations? Who settles the disagreement then?
