My family is similar. Many on Dad and Mom's side worked in steel or auto factories in the Chicago area. There were many jobs available in the area in the mid 1950s.

Dad was a foreman at Ford. I actually worked there a couple of years in production. The money was great. It was a bit of a rough and tumble environment and a good incentive to finish college.

I remember my dad sitting me down one day and saying, "Don't be a steamfitter. Go get an education, get a better job".

I don't get your point.
It implies that she lived in the Bronx and commuted to a school in the suburbs. Instead, she lived in the suburbs and often visited close family in the Bronx.

At worst it's misleading. It's a silly thing to nitpick over.

Her family moved to Yorktown when she was 5 so that the kids would be in better schools. So when was she commuting 40 mins. from a Yorktown school to her family living in the Bronx?

Or maybe you are scared and so want to suggest others are (to attack them)...

"Nuh uh...you!"

Why would I be scared? I agree with her entire platform. In the current hellscape of American politics, I think she's a breath of fresh air.

From School to close family in the Bronx? That would make no sense in the context of the point she is making.

In the end, it doesn't matter what outsiders think. The voters in her district obviously though her working class credentials were genuine.

When was she ever commuting 40 mins. between school in Yorktown and her family in the Bronx?

eh, Well if her father owned a family business in the Bronx and presumably worked there everyday; she might have been going there after school to work or to stay with him or the mom until they came home.
I'd like to think this is the explanation or something similar to it, and it could be. She needs to clarify her statement in her bio though.
With the amount of out and out lying coming from Washington people have become "nit picking" and hypersensitive to anything that looks like one might be lying. There isn't much grace being given.

I think they are genuine as well. She was working as a waitress and bartender to help her mom keep her home after her dad died. Obviously they weren't wealthy.

Scared that she's being found out as a fraud....so you feel the need to get in first and accuse the finders of fear...

When you're attacking someone on the basis of being a "fraud" instead of her platform, it sure seems like you might be preemptively shut her down out of fear.

But by all means, keep it up! Ocasio-Cortez will win handily while her opponents are left blubbering about "fraud". It'll be great.

Why would she need to clarify it? It's not an outright outlandish or inconceivable claim. Her father worked in the Bronx, her mother cleaned houses (so the kids couldn't be with her after school). She and her sibling likely went to stay at the father's business via public transportation so they wouldn't be at home alone and to help out. It's not all that unusual in working families and this (if it's the case) doesn't make her a liar. If she was pushing a narrative that she grew up in the ghetto and on the streets and was bused in to better schools or lied about her residence to attend a better school; then yes that would be a lie. Saying she commuted to school and the Bronx or from school to the Bronx (where her father had a business that he likely worked at everyday) isn't a lie or even a stretch. Kids go to where their parents are after school unless parents make other arrangements. I guess she could clarify it; but she shouldn't HAVE to. It's ridiculous. Being a little cloudy on how she got to and from school to home to the Bronx isn't quite on the same level as lying about molesting/groping someone or paying off a porn star.

That is what the article is accusing her of and that is why the OP poster bothered to post the article. Isn't it better to be clear and concise rather than have your honesty questioned by people who will be coming against you?

Of course I understand what she's being accused of; but it's so dumb. I mean, if you think about it you can probably figure out what she meant without accusing her of being a liar. She can clarify a piddly detail about traveling to and from high school when she was a minor if she wants to , certainly, but hopefully she is more focused on issues than giving more time to stupidity. The article in the OP is from the daily mail; it is a bit of a stretch to show her house and declare that she grew up wealthy. If you know anything about that area and property values, it's not an expensive or showy home. She now lives back in the Bronx in the same apt. she lived in from birth to age 5. I hope she wins; she seems like a great candidate.

Pretty sure it was WSWS that first revealed this. They sort of hate faux-socialists.
I don't doubt that she is a Democratic Socialist just like Bernie Sanders is. Her platform is Sander's platform.

Why would anyone doubt that?

Ocasio-Cortez is a bourgeois politician, not a socialist. She does not question the economic foundations of capitalist society—the ownership of the banks and giant corporations by a financial aristocracy. She does not suggest that the property system in America or the accumulation of unheard-of wealth by a tiny fraction of the population should be questioned, let alone ended.

The same mentality is present on both sides. Neither Trump or Bernie sold out. They didn't have many big donors and didn't misrepresent themselves.

Can't speak for Bernie, but Donald didn't sell out, he bought off.

Remember the good old days when the GOP stood for small government fiscal hawkishness, with a healthy respect for states' rights? You're not supposed to -- because then you'd have to deal with the fact that they traded all that in for a few SCOTUS nominees.

Wow, you must be a heckuva liar to have your honesty questioned by Trump Supporters.
Trump nor his supporters have never tried to be more blue collar than thou. Okay, maybe Haninty does go on about every job he has ever had, from construction guy to journalist.
