In Samaritan culture, women had no rights whatsoever. They had arranged marriages, and unlike Jewish culture, had no right of refusal. There were no protections written into their marriage contracts, so the husband could divorce a woman for any or no reason. The most common reason: infertility. After being divorced, a woman had no control over her life. Her father or brothers (or male cousins, etc) would try to arrange another marriage. Again she had no right of refusal. And again she could be dismissed for no reason. She could not do business or own property. Prostitution was met with an immediate death sentence. Her only hope was for someone to take her in as a domestic servant.can someone explain how they were different? I've never heard about that and would like to know a bit more please.
Does God believe in "individual rights?" No.
Ethical or not, lying is still sinful.
"Thou shalt not bear false witness."
Hmmphh. If Christians were honest about their sex life, you'd find out that the great majority of them were/are fornicating. If you are living together and screwing, yeah, it's a sin. It used to be called "living in sin."
that is true, unfortunately.Hmmphh. If Christians were honest about their sex life, you'd find out that the great majority of them were/are fornicating.
God knows about it; and so will everyone else on Judgement Day.But I guess that's OK, as long as no one knows about it, right?
If you want to discuss Ethics and Morality with only Christians go here:Well, yeah.
The is a Christian forum and clearly a discussion in relation to Christian behavior.
That an Atheist doesn't regard what the Bible says isn't shocking.
...and I'm sure the Christians that are cohabiting believe that.God knows about it; and so will everyone else on Judgement Day.
It is not just avoiding sex. It is also NOT lusting. The few episodes of that show I saw had plenty of lusting.I suppose it's possible.
Loved that show.I suppose it's possible.
To me, the dumb blonde thing is like drunk people...I can't stand being around them for any length of time. I'd rather listen to a three-hour lecture on macrame by Ozzy Osbourne with breaks every fifteen minutes for nails on a chalkboard.Loved that show.
Chrissy or Janet? Janet! (Chrissy for a hot weekend, Janet for a wife). LOL
Does God believe in "individual rights?" No.
I never said that. God holds rulers accountable who do not rule with justice and equity. So we are expected to adhere to laws or behaviors that are unfair and unjust?
Yeah, that's the same.
It's also interesting that you're dodging that point with such a line.
He is not a Christian.
We intend to stay together. For now, I'm the one who wants to get married. He did not reject the idea of getting married.
Parenting is the area I would tend to worry about...Hmmmm... how will the differences in world views impact your relationship over the longrun?
Parenting is the area I would tend to worry about...
not really..Sounds like you are in a tough spot. Have you thought about what you are going to do?
