Like the title says above, if twenty people pray for my future wife (I'm not sure who she is yet) I will donate twenty dollars to the charity of the group choice. To be clear, I will be donating to one charity only. You can vote by replying with the name of the charity. I need to be able to donate online. The winning charity will be selected, say, two days from now (May 6). Thanks in advance for praying; I'll provide proof via screenshot or a link.

I will pray for her without the incentive of a charitable donation.

Can you clarify exactly for what you wish prayer? That you find a compatible mate? That she has health and long life? That she would know Our Lord ever more deeply? Or something else?

At this point I would say that she finds what she's looking for in the Bible and that she would have a comforting relationship with the Lord. Thank you.

Heavenly Father, I bring before you Dropout_Theologian and his future wife, as of yet unknown to him. Lord, I ask that she might have a strong and comforting relationship with You, that she would be a fitting companion for Dropout_Theologian, that their relationship will be long lasting, fruitful and sound, all to Your glory. Amen.

Speaking of looking around in the Bible, you might want to try it yourself sometime.

You're paying for prayers? I don't know if that counts as simony, exactly, but I can't see how it's on the up-and-up.

I just take as a way for him to donate money, I don't think the OP is buying prayers

That's why I didn't outright call it simony.

If he wants prayers, he's posting in the Prayer Wall section. Methinks there are plenty of volunteers here. But paying (directly or indirectly) for prayers is pretty sketchy.

It's sketchy, Scotty.

Acts 8:20-23 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. 21Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. 22Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. 23For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

Prayers for both you and for your future wife (God willing). I also won't be asking for any charity. It doesn't seem right to expect anything back for prayers. But it is maybe a good impulse in you that you wish to benefit someone, so I hope you do ... without linking to prayers.

God be with you.

You're right, I do need to read my Bible better. It's something I've noticed for a while now. Particularly old testament passages are a difficulty; my mother recently bought me a guide for Leviticus.

I didn't mean this request for myself, I meant it for my future wife. While I'm not sure who it will be, I do have an idea, and (if she was telling the truth (I have been easily tricked in the past)) she appears like she would like to have greater knowledge of the Bible.

Honestly, perhaps that passage does apply here. I think it's different though. I don't have time to write more, but thank you and thank everyone for their opinions on this matter, and thank you for praying for my future wife, which is whom I intended this for, that she would be blessed today in many ways.

It doesn't seem too far removed from something like a matching donor, who asks people to give to a charity and they will give like amount - on a certain day or hour.

(We still ought not pay for prayer but simply do it out of care for one another and in obedience to God.)

Simon thought he could buy the power of the Holy Spirit ... he wanted to make a slave of God Himself, in order to boost his own reputation by commanding such power. Enslave God for the purposes of pride? Unthinkable!

Not quite the same thing.

and is attempting to purchase the power of prayer for one's own gain not in the same thread?
As I iterated before, the details are different, but the matter of the heart is the same.
You could possibly see that on the surface, Simon had "good intentions" and wanted to use the power to help others, but not for God's glory, but his own.
To make it clearer as a crystal.....
Quid pro quo, I'll do this if you do that. Putting a price tag on the power of prayer. God doesn't work quid pro quo. If you feel like giving to charity, do it with a giving heart. Whatever this is, isn't right with God because that Holy Spirit living inside me tells me it is exactly like the story of Simon where he attempted to purchase the power of the Holy Ghost.
The O.P. knows it. You know it. I know it. Most importantly God knows it. In that context, I advised with the verses from Acts, to get right before God in the matter. This is walking down a steep slope.

Praying that you find the wife God has for you. Praying that she has a solid foundation of a relationship with Him, and that you both seek a marriage that has Him as the head and leader of you both.

You are free to give to charity with or without prayers from others. Have a little more faith in believers. We don't need to be "bribed" into praying for you. I pray you will find the right wife and be made the right husband.
