WHY IS DANIEL 9:24-27 ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT PASSAGES IN SCRIPTURE ?

Matthew 24
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

The believers in Jerusalem took this admonition literally, fled, and survived.

Did they misunderstand? Should they have recognized that Christ was speaking figuratively, stayed where they were, and perished?

You have no idea what you talked about.

The Olivet Discourse was NOT about physical Israel and the temple in 70AD! Christ prophesied about His New Testament Congregation that Judaea is a type of! The Holy Place on this side of the Cross is the Church, the very temple that Christ has rebuilt as a Chief Cornerstone! Not physical Jewish Temple of 70AD! Besides the Jewish Temple was no longer "holy" after the Cross anyway, therefore this is not what Daniel the Prophet was referring to! Selah!

Now the question is, exactly what is the Abomination of Desolation, standing in the Holy Place? You need to compare Scripture with Scripture.

By the preponderance of evidence in scripture, the setting up of the abomination of desolation will be the beginning of the end. This event, which will cause God's elect to flee from the adulterous Church, precedes the return of Christ and our gathering together to meet Him in the air. The reason that the Church is brought to desolation is that of its abominable nature and its unfaithfulness. The growing apostasy in the Church will cause the house of God to be divided (mark3:25) and overcome by those with the spirit of antichrist. God expressly told us of these things before.

1st Timothy 4:1-2
  • "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
  • Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;"
When the people of the Churches take heed to seducing spirits of antichrist (1st John 4:3), and depart from obedience to the landmark doctrines of God, they become men of lawlessness. And this is the establishment of the sinful man ruling in the Holy Temple of God. The pastors are no longer teaching faithfully, and causes the Church to commit spiritual fornication in going after false doctrines. This is what will ultimately bring the house to desolation.

Luke 11:17
  • "But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth".
You cannot have a house where the Spirit of Christ and the spirit of antichrist dwell in peace. Because it is a house divided, and it must fall. The Church is to be the light of the world, and if that light were darkness, then the lawful man of God must flee from it. And this is how the unfaithful Church will fall. The lawless man, moved by the spirit of antichrist, comes professing the name of Christ. Yet his actions give him away to the elect, whom he spiritually silences as the true witnesses (Revelation 11:7) in the Churches. They are thus rendered symbolically dead in the streets. The wolves in sheep's clothing will have deceived so greatly that the true doctrines and testimonies are silenced in the Church. The people there hate the faithful witness, which is akin to murder because their faithfulness to the doctrines of Christ is like torment to these people. By rebuking and exhorting the Church to keep the laws of God faithfully, they offend many because those under Satan's deception don't want to hear of obedience to God's laws. They want to be ruled in accordance with the imaginations of their own heart, "as if" they were their own gods. They don't want God's word alone to be the authority, and so they silence the believer's testimony. This is spiritually speaking, killing them that they cannot work for Christ.

Revelation 11:7-8
  • "And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
  • And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified."
The testimony of the witnesses (Acts 1:8) who received power of God is not finished until the time of the end, when all Israel has been sealed and Christ will return. When the faithful witnesses of the Church have finished their task of witnessing to the world, those led of that spirit, Satan, will silence them in the Church. The city where our Lord was crucified was Jerusalem, which again illustrates this is speaking about the Church. Note here that this city had become "Spiritually" as Sodom and Egypt. Again, a clear illustration that it was in apostasy. IT is a time where God forbids His people from coming down from a housetop or return from the field (missionary) because there is no longer Salvation in the city because of abomination of desolation.

Jesus placed an extraordinary emphasis on the prophecy of the abomination, instructing that those who read should also "understand." This alerts us that Matthew 24 must be looked at carefully, in the light of other testimonies and the prophecy of Daniel. This is the only way that we will understand what God (not man) means by it. This is the same type language promoting understanding as can be read in Revelation chapter 13. There God says, "Let he who hath wisdom and understanding, count the number of the beast." Again, God is alerting us that this is not an easy prophecy to understand, not something we can interpret with a history that anyone can do, so we have to understand this with the wisdom and understanding given of Christ. Certainly our finite minds are not able to interpret the infinite mind of God, thus scripture must interpret scripture. Let those who have the mind of Christ (1st Corinthians 2:14-16) through the Spirit of Christ, understand. By allowing the word of God to define and explain itself, we have the understanding God exhorts us to. Popular authors, political interpretations, or carnal and worldly ideas about the nation of Israel cannot be allowed to mislead us. Even if those interpretation "appear" right, appearances are deceiving (Mark 13:22; 2nd Corinthians 10:7; Revelation 13:11). Our understanding will come from the authority of scripture in the wisdom of the mind of Christ, as His Spirit witnesses with ours (Romans 8:16). We cannot do or follow whatever "seems" right in our own eyes. We follow and are in obedience to, the authority of the word of God.

It is truly amazing that so critical an expression as, "abomination of desolation," has been so misinterpreted. Because these are words that have been used repeatedly and extensively in scripture. Abomination is almost exclusively used in scripture to signify "God's people" going after the false gods of the unbelievers. Likewise, Desolation is an unambiguous word. It illustrates their ruin and devastation. So why have these obvious truths been so neglected and ignored in many theological circles in favor of a political or physical understanding of the phrase? Could it be that the Biblically validated conclusion contradicts much of Judaic and Premillennial Church tradition? Nevertheless, the fact is, the Holy Temple after the cross is Christ, those in Christ, and the assembly of those saints (Church). Clearly, the stones of the Holy Temple were not in the building destroyed in A.D. 70. For in A.D. 70, the holy Temple, the Holy Place, the Jerusalem of God, was the Church.

Luke 20:16-17
  • "He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
  • And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?"
The Corner Stone for a rebuilding of the Holy Temple, not the pile of bricks destroyed in A.D. 70. The New Testament Holy Temple could not have been that building, nor have God call it a Holy Place where abomination would make it desolate at that time. It already was left desolate in God's eyes by the death of Christ. And the rebuilding of the Holy Temple had already commenced. If we read and understand as Christ instructs, then we must come to the knowledge that earthly Jerusalem was left desolate of God at the cross, not years later in A.D. 70. That is to say, according to the Biblical narrative. The judgment of God (blindness in part) had already occurred, and there is not a single word in scripture about the second judgment in A.D. 70. Yes, there are a few scriptures "privately interpreted" to mean that, but once examined in the light of the whole Bible, they don't hold up under that light. Christ spoke not of a temple (which wasn't of God or Holy) made of physical stones, He spoke of abomination in a Holy place. He spoke of something far more important than a pile of physical bricks falling in the middle east. He spoke of those who were spiritually bricks, and how many would be deceived and be brought to desolation. The countless examples of such judgments of God for such abominations are illustrated vividly in Old Testament Israel.

When the saints flee to the mountains, we must interpret that by authority of scripture as God intended, not by secular records or by biased historians like Josephus. At this time of trial, the careless will be eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage. Because they are deceived and are unaware that the Holy Temple is being defiled. Satan has deceived them so that they are spiritually "marked" as being part of the Beast, his kingdom who bow down to serve his likeness or image.

Daniel 11:31-33
  • "And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
  • And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
  • And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days."
Here we see the characteristics of this time of the abomination of desolation. Many that are disobedient to break God's covenant are being deceived by flatteries. They pollute and profane the sanctuary, unconcerned with doctrine. In other words, by the pastors and teachers being praised for their unlawfulness, and then representing the Church favorably when they transgress, that is the Church being corrupted by flatteries. Pastors telling them things that they want to hear, instead of the truth.

Isaiah 30:9-11
  • "That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:
  • Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
  • Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us."
They are in essence calling for sacrifice and offering to cease, causing the Holy One of Israel to cease from before them. They don't want to hear from the man of law, they want to hear the man of lawlessness. And the pastors give them what they want, and this is the flattery of abomination to God. The Church wants to hear that they can be saved by free will, that divorce is not a sin to God, that abortion can often be justified, that they can command God, that they can have a power of tongues, that they can mix the world with the Church. They want to hear that our own faith "in" Christ saves us, not the faith of Christ. They want to hear that children are not really a blessing, but a burden. They want to hear that women can rule as pastors in the Church, that an earthly kingdom of Christ is coming, that the salvation of Israel was merely postponed, etc., etc. The rulers flatter the Church by telling them that all these abominations are not unlawful to God, they are simply non-essential doctrines. They prophesy smooth things, signs of salvation that are lies rather than the truth. Because that is what the unfaithful "want" to hear. In the prophecy of the man of lawlessness (sin) in the Holy Temple of 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2, God warns of this spirit of antichrist that deceives in the Temple.

2nd Thessalonians 2:9-11
  • "Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
  • And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
  • And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:"

I don't dispute that there is growing apostasy today.

But you haven't answered the question.

Were the believers wrong to understand Jesus literally, and to flee, and to save their lives?

And God, through His Scripture, definitely did not talk about physical stones of the temple in Luke 19 or 70AD!

Luk 19:41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,

Luk 19:42 saying, "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

Luk 19:43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,

Luk 19:44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."

Luk 19:41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,

Did Christ think about the physical city when he saw the city? Or did Christ think about HIS PEOPLE, the stones of the city, who were unaware of their judgment/visitation? Who were their ENEMIES? Romans, or the Scribes who have destroyed the city and the sanctuary (Please read John 2:18-21)?

What does verse 44, you quoted, say?

Luk 19:44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."

The verse is not saying that they will level the physical stones of the city. Did Christ talk to physical stones here?! Hello? No, they level the stones of the city and the temple that REPRESENTS the people of His congregation, the body of Christ! It is the Old Testament Congregation that have fallen along with their kingdom representation being taking away! It has fallen the moment Christ was cut off, but in three days Christ rebuilt HIS BODY which is NOT building with stones that represent the Gentiles just like the Jews of Old! Are you trying to ignore John 2:18-21 like the Jews of Old?

The physical city and temples were only a figure of Christ's body which are PEOPLE! That is it! And you need to study my previous post again.

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

"Ye" were His disciples and any others in His Olivet audience. The holy place was Jerusalem, the holy city (Luke 21:20). Wherever they were in Judea, including of course Jerusalem, they were to flee into the mountains, which they did, and survived.

Nope. Obviously, many people like you do not have the understanding, verse 15. It is not physical Jerusalem, temple, Judea, etc. you think Christ was talking about.

Today, it is because the people living at this time see two opposing conditions. Which condition one sees depends upon if they are truly born from above in Christ, or if they are merely professing Christians. For one, it is seen as Peace and Safety in the church, and to the other it is much reviling, trials and great tribulation in the church. What condition one sees is dependent upon if they can see the 'signs' of the times. For example:

Luke 21:25
  • "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;"
Not everyone will see these signs. many will be looking for physical signs, physical stars falling, etc. The signs are Spiritual in nature. Many people will say, "it seems to prophecy of literal danger and trauma going on," but the operative word there is 'seems' to be physical danger. There are two things to consider. If these signs were physical, they would be no signs at all, because we always have and always will have great earthquakes, famines, wars and rumors of wars. These aren't Biblical SIGNS at all, they are normative for the world. There are those Christians who add that this must then be speaking of really massive physical signs so that they're not normative. But if that were the case, then again we have a contradiction, because then everyone would see the signs and it could "NEVER" be business as usual (as required by these scriptures). No, the only way to understand these signs is the way God intended them to be understood. By comparing scripture with scripture and letting God be the interpreter. Then we see that the only way that some see these signs and others do not (business as usual) is by understanding the symbolic nature of the scriptures. Understanding which comes only in the mind of Christ. Spiritual signs revealed in symbolic language.

Matthew 24:15
  • "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand: )"
He who reads, let him "understand." That's the key to understand what we are reading. Like we read in Revelation 13 where God said, "Here is wisdom, he who hath "Understanding" let him count the number of the beast, Rev 13:18". Likewise, when you shall "SEE" the abomination stand in the Holy place, means not everyone will see it. Only those who have the mind of Christ has this wisdom and understanding required to "see" these great signs. The wars, the famine, the stars falling and the waves of the sea roaring.

Ephesians 1:17-18
  • "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
  • The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Wisdom and understanding to count the number of the beast are by a Revelation of God to His symbolism and the spiritual nature of His gospel message. Not physical chips, or mark.

In truth, this language of Matthew is really just the REGULAR cryptic or parabolic language that God has used throughout scripture (not just in Revelation, Ezekiel or Daniel). Some Christians like to wax poetic about literalism, but in truth God has "always" used the spiritual, allegorical, or symbolic language in His Holy Word.

Didn't I explained about John the Baptist was prophesied to come and straighten out highways in my previous posts? Christ was spoken of as a Branch and a Rock, Satan as a Serpent and Dragon, false prophets in the old testament were spoken of as Wolves, Israel as a Fig Tree, the two sons of Abraham as the two covenants, God's people as stones of the building, the church as Judea, etc. The point being, some people like you act as if understanding the Spiritual nature of God's word is unbiblical, when it is just the opposite.

So no, the holy place in Luke 21 is not about the physical temple in 70AD. The people here were not Jews living in Judea, fleeing to the physical mountain for safety. It is not what you think Christ talked about. You need to have an understanding, a wisdom of Christ, to know exactly what Christ spoke through prophet Daniel. A wisdom that Disciple did not hah until after the resurrection and Pentecost when they finally understood that the stones of the temple and the city that Christ said in Matthew 21:1-2 is really PEOPLE and the congregation. Not physical city!

Luk 23:27 And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him.
Luk 23:28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
Luk 23:29 For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!'
Luk 23:30 Then they will begin 'TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, "FALL ON US!" AND TO THE HILLS, "COVER US!" '
Luk 23:31 For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?"

In 1 Peter 2:4-10 it is those who belong to Christ who are the stones of the spiritual temple, instead of those who rejected Him.

Mat 3:9 and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

Incorrect. You are reading into Scripture. Allow me to explain...

We can't just completely ignore these verses in lieu of ones that we think we can prove because it supports our view. No, "ALL" scripture must be taken into consideration before coming to any conclusion. Let observe Luke 19 again:

Luke 19:41-44
  • "And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
  • Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
  • For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
  • And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation."
Every time I submit these passages to the 70 AD Theorists, I am met with deafening silence, even as you will not address it. Do you hear what the Lord is saying there? The exact same thing as He said about the Temple! If it's not literal here, then obviously, it's not literal about the Temple. Let's be honorable and consistent here. To say Christ was not talking about the city of Jerusalem as a covenant representation of the people of God ("thy children within thee") shows a serious lack of understanding of the way the Bible is written. For very unambiguously, He is talking to PEOPLE (even the Scribes and Pharisees God said perceived that) and speaking of their desolation as all the stones of a city being made desolate or thrown down. And Christ says the reason is that the city knew not the time of its visitation. Think about it. Did Christ talk to the literal stones? No, He's talking to the city of Jews and saying they will be laid even with the ground (equating THEM to STONES of a building), because they knew not the time of their visitation. Selah!! Christ has NOT prophesied here of literal buildings and a literal city, but of spiritual buildings that are the external covenant congregation representation. Just as He calls the congregation an Olive Tree, He calls it a City, and He calls it a Temple, and a Vineyard, and a Kingdom, etc. Get it?! There's no mystery here to God's people, as He has always spiritualized or spoke in parables this way. I know that something is "spiritually discerned" has come to be equated with a "Bad Phrase" these days, but Biblical facts are facts. Read the Old Testament for your examples.

Micah 1:8-9
  • "Therefore I will wail and howl, I will go stripped and naked: I will make a wailing like the dragons, and mourning as the owls.
  • For her wound is incurable; for it is come unto Judah; he is come unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem."

The City Jerusalem was a representation of God's people, not a geographical location nor a physical wall in the Middle East! Selah!

And yes, I know that there are some people here who have insisted that the temple and its buildings in Matthew 24:1-2 MUST be physical (to fit their 70AD theory) when Christ said. But the problem is if we COMPLETELY ignore all the other verses that I have been quoting to you (word for word) about not one stone left standing in Jerusalem and reading Matthew 24 in a Biblically insular fashion. But the fact is, we cannot read scripture in a vacuum where there is nothing acceptable as truth except our own pet verses that "seem" to support us as long as we don't include others. All scripture must be in harmony with itself, and it most certainly is not "if" we attempt to claim that Matthew 24 stands by itself, or the passages of Luke 19 have nothing to do with the question at hand. God even gives us examples of the Devil attempting to use just that specific type of erroneous interpretive methodology.

Matthew 4:6-7
  • "And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
  • Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."
Note the Devil's hermeneutic style. Yes, he quotes from Scripture, but he doesn't consider "other scriptures" which have equal bearing on the question. That is what many people do today with Scripture! But Christ demonstrates the proper hermeneutic in answering, "it is written again," or "it is written more" (there is more written). Christ corrects by declaring there is more written beside your pet verse. Christ's solution is not to deny the Devil's scripture, but to tell him that this is not all that scripture has to say concerning this. For example, there is more written on the subject. If we take one isolated verse, as in this example, we will inevitably come to private interpretations and improper conclusions. And what Christ said is exactly what I am saying. There is more written on the subject besides a few lines in Matthew about the Temple that has to be considered. And when all scripture (not just Matthew) is considered, clearly, the stones of Israel falling are figures representing (as the Pharisees perceived) the people. ...He spoke of THEM! Not physical stones of the city! They, as people, are considered as the old stones that rejected Christ and the New Testament saints are the New Living stones in the rebuilding. Hello?!

Consider wisely..

Luke 19:39-42
  • "And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
  • And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
  • And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
  • Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes."

He who hath an ear, let him hear!

Israel cried Hosanna to the King, but they were the old and so did hold their peace in proclaiming Christ King, and the stones "did" immediately cry out. Jesus did NOT talk about physical stones of the city, but the spiritual stones which are PEOPLE who did cry out! The word of God is a gigantic spiritual picture puzzle with every piece in place. Just because one does not understand this, does not make the truth of it null and void.

Now going back to Luke 19

Luke 19:41-44
  • "And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
  • Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
  • For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
  • And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation."
Listen... does that sound like the Lord never referred to these perimeter buildings of the city in His discourse? On the contrary. Does that sound like Christ is talking about a physical city, all the houses, bricks, mortar? Or does it sound like Christ is talking about a city of people who would be laid even with the ground because they didn't know the time of His visitation? Can a physical building or stones know anything? He's not talking to a physical city any more than you or I would, He's using the city Jerusalem as a figure of his covenant people that would symbolically be ground to powder, laid even with the ground. Just as He always has spoken this way about them. ..it's "not" something new as some people would have you believe that it is.

Isaiah 40:1-3
  • "Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
  • Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins.
  • The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God."
Think about it. Using your hermeneutic, we would have to conclude that God is prophesying of a physical war coming to an end in the physical city of Jerusalem. And of a construction worker going through the streets of this city Jerusalem straightening out crooked roads. Does this sounds right to you, humm? Because your system of interpretation is wrong! WRONG! We cannot interpret by what seems right in our own ears and eyes, but we interpret scripture by other scripture. And that is how we know that the warfare being accomplished is our spiritual warfare we had with God before Christ. And the Jerusalem, in view, is the body of God's people. And the making straight a highway in the desert is turning away from sin and following the straight and narrow road in Christ. This is what Isaiah 40:3 is about!

You see, A person's hermeneutic or system of interpretation will determine how he understands scripture, cities, stones, temples, abomination, and restoration.

And no, this has NOTHING to do with the physical temple in 70AD.

Wait a second, so you don't believe Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed in 70ad by the romans?

The walls, gates, buildings, city and temple of the people of God, He did not look upon as brick and mortar.

Matthew 24:1
As Jesus left the temple and was walking away, His disciples came up to Him to point out its buildings. 2“Do you see all these things?”

He was pointing to the temple buildings

So, how many people like you HAVE the understanding?

Is this your private interpretation or can you point us to anyone else with such a view that aligns with yours on this?

Who else in Christendom shares your view of these things?

I'd be interested to hear their take.

Why did God rip the temple veil in half when Christ died on the Cross, if the Old Covenant system was still in effect?

.

As a harbinger of the coming destruction of the entire mosaic economy/ temple sacrifice system.

The veil was torn, and repaired, [remember the veil did not arrive as manna from heaven, it was sewn into existence by men.] and the sacrifices continued per the conditions of the covenant.

Honestly, just because the Jews may have continued sacrifices, it doens't mean that God was honoring the covenant.

As I have pointed out, AD70 was a covenental judgement, predicated on the terms of that very covenant, brought upon a people who were at that time engaged in a covenental relationship with God.

God is Just, therefore the covenant must have been in place and operational for Him to Judge Israel at that time according to it's terms and conditions.

The Law, with all it's covenental curses, remained in full force over those Jews who were not "in Christ", torn veil and all.

God wrote the Sinai Covenant on tablets of stone at Mount Sinai. (Exodus 34:28, Deuteronomy 5:1-3)

God ripped the temple veil in half at the moment Christ died at Calvary.

Men repaired the temple veil.

Before 70 AD, God said there was a change in the Law as found in Hebrews 7:12.

Men claim otherwise.

God allowed the Babylonians to destroy the first temple.
That destruction did not end the Sinai Covenant.

God allowed the Romans to destroy the second temple.
That destruction did not end the Sinai Covenant.
It was the sacrifice of God's Son at Calvary which ended the Sinai Covenant.

Joh 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (Until when? When was it fulfilled?)

Only one person has ever kept the Sinai Covenant perfectly.

When a carpenter completes a new house the contract to build that house becomes "obsolete".

He has built us a New House out of two pieces of wood and a handful of nails.

Whether it was repaired or not is not the point. It was showing that the way to God is through Christ.

Gentiles Church is now a representation of Christ's body. Aren't we all part of Christ's body? Look it up in your Bible.

Yes, And it [the physical temple "figure"] had to be torn down in order to fully establish the spiritual temple reality:

No. Read John 2:18-22 again. Christ did NOT replace the physical temple with the spiritual temple. Christ has told the Jews to "destroy this temple" and in three days he will rise it up. The Jews, like you, thought Christ was talking about a physical temple that took them 46 years to build. But you are wrong, this is not what Christ talked about! It is his body of the temple that represents the people of the congregation (Jews).

Hebrews 9:8
the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.

Again...

We are all aware that the literal Old Covenant Holy Temple did house the Holy place, but what we must come to understand is that this is not the Old Covenant dispensation. The Old Covenant types are fulfilled. They types, the shadows, the temple, the sacrifices, etc., they are all passed away in the Old Covenant.

Hebrews 10:8-10
  • "Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
  • Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. [/i]
  • By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."

You can't have the old Covenant and the New Covenant all symbolizes the same thing. That is confusion. The Jewish Temple after Christ was resurrected no more was the "Holy" Temple. It was no more the Holy Place. It was taken away that the New is established. At the Cross! Not 70AD! That is a Biblical impossibility because the physical Jewish Temple was ONLY a shadow of Christ the Holy Temple, and now the New Covenant congregation is the representation of resurrected Christ. With the fulfillment in Christ, the old covenant shadow passed away. Just as Passover passed away and the Lord's table was established in its place. No need to wait 40 years for physical destruction of Temple. Silly!

Hebrews 8:13
  • "In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away."
Hebrews chapter 9:1-3
  • "Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
  • For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
  • And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;"
Hebrews 9:7-11
  • "But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
  • The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
  • Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
  • Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
  • But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;"
Hebrews 9:8
the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.

Showing by what? By the symbolism of the "LITERAL" things which represented "Spiritual" things! Rather than prove your point, you are making my point for me! The Old Covenant literal Holy Temples were figures (representations) of spiritual things which were far more important than a pile of bricks, a slain lamb, or a lamp full of oil. These things are Spiritually discerned. Are you saying that the Jews of Old Testament were not in the spiritual kingdom like we are while they had the literal holy temple and city as figures of that kingdom? Hello?

Hebrews 9:7-9
  • "But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
  • The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
  • Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;"
I have shown you scripture in my another posts here that says the holy place exists after the Cross. The passages I showed you that said the Holy Temple (which was the Church) was built up a habitation or dwelling place of God where Christ was a chief cornerstone of that building after he rebuilt it in 3 days which was confirmed at Pentecost! Not 70 AD! You need to remember that the dwelling place of God "IS" the Holy Place. Get it?

Now can you show me any scripture which says that the Jewish physical Temple building in 70 ad was "still" God's Holy Temple, and "still" had His Holy dwelling place inside? Of course not! God forbid! Because by the death and resurrection of Christ was that city and temple left in ruins (Remember Jesus "already" said, "Behold, your city is left unto you desolate"), and a desolation and was rebuilt in Christ, New Jerusalem and the New tabernacle in heaven.

That is historical fact, but is it not biblical facts because it was not what God prophesied about! Selah!

Mat 3:9 and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

Matthew 3:7-9
[7] But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
[8] Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
[9] And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

The stones of old testament congregation make up of True believers and professed believers like the pharisees and Sadducess. Some good stones, some bad stones. But that old testament congregation fell, and Christ rebuilt it where the Gentiles stones were added to it. Again, some good stones (True Christians) and some bad stones (professed Christians). But in the End, New Jerusalem will be made up of ALL Good stones (believers) from the old testament and new testament. The rest of all fallen stones from old testament and new testament are considered as the "generation of vipers" - a spiritual family of Satan from Cain to last professed Christian WITHIN the congregation of God. They will be thrown into the Lake of fire.
