Been working on this drawing for a LONG time now. I'm starting to think I'm not as "inspired" as I once was when I was a younger anime artist. :(

Well, I remember those anime-style drawings you showed me once a long while back. They were quite good in my opinion. So unless you have fallen a long ways away from that level of quality (say, in the same distance Final Fantasy XIII fell away from its previous game), then perhaps you are being too tough on yourself, Swan. :)

Well, thing is I thought I would have fallen hugely away from where I was due to lack of drawing anything for years... but God had other plans. My problem is not the drawing process but rather the creative process suffered greatly. Now it's taking me a very long time to complete a piece with just line art!
:destroyed:

Now that's not to say I am like... manga style good, I can't even fathom drawing quickly because I'm SO picky with my lines!

I'm still struggling a bit to completely close the chapter from my last job. 5 years of enduring stress and drama there, to finally have my fighting end there, I still haven't been able to mentally process it out yet. Even though I have opened a new chapter I'm working towards, the thoughts around it still linger there. I want to get rid of them and move on, but I don't know how.

I totally know how you feel, Swan. I don't make digital art as often as I should anymore, and it's not only from a lack of ideas but also because I just don't feel like it. And that's because it takes me SO much longer to make one than it used to plus I have to give up most of the other things I want to do on the computer to get any drawing done. I hope and pray that your inspiration returns; I'm sure your drawing will still turn out wonderful because I know you're a good artist. :)

For me part of the problem is that I spend like two hours editing the lineart for every drawing. Maybe I need to stop being such a perfectionist. :p

You know, I have been reading on Deviant Art that most artists have a line accuracy perfection problem lol! Sometimes when I come back to a drawing later, it helps because then my mind is clear and I can look at it with new eyes, so to speak. Then it's like "ah, ha!" so that is why it takes me SO long to do. XD

Thanks Multi :D

Mmmmmmm mangoes........... don't feel bad in the slightest.... as good as mangoes may be even they aren't as good as tacos..... there is always someone better.... thats why we don't compare ourselves to others.

Just let the tacos be the best tacos they can be and the mangoes be the best mangoes they can be.

We can not out perform the gifts God has given us, all we can do is our very best with that which He gives us.

A mango has no responsibility to taste like a taco..... cause God made it a mango, not a taco.

Really? I guess I don't feel so bad then. :muahah: I hope it goes well. :)

And that makes me think, I remember watching Youtube videos of people doing digital art before where they drew perfect lines the first time and didn't need to edit much. How do they do that?? I mean, even with a tablet my lineart looks like this at first:

And it takes several hours of editing to get this:

Well, all the talk about drawing actually inspired me to start drawing something new. :D I spent about two hours on it today and got the sketch and about half the lineart done.

Lol! I hear you. My first sketch is REALLY rough, I have lines going everywhere but my mind's eye sees where the solid lines should be. So I make my actual line art from that rough sketch. Then I'm sometimes re-drawing while doing the line art because you know, not satisfied with how it was before. Hands are the worst for me. Constant re-draw.

Then when I feel like I just can't do it, I go to YouTube to watch others with their speed drawings. It's like refueling. But I also see those REALLY superb artists who re-line their line art 3 times!
:aarh:
I dunno if I have the same patience or diligence to keep doing that over again. I just wanna get it done the first time.

OMM: Why is talking to an insurance company so stressful? Why do they have to transfer you to 4 different people to handle one issue?

*cough* because it's all about the money *cough*

Weird.. when I draw.. I just draw it forthright.. meaning I don't really erase or edit anything.

Personally I like the touch of art that isn't symmetrically perfect, but has errors. Just like the human face has errors.

One thing that I miss about old animation besides not being flash, the animation and character designs were choppy and not uniformed like they are now.

I totally know what you mean! Hands are really hard to draw too.

Wow! I don't think I have the patience to re-line my lineart like that. :p Watching other people draw is nice though, especially when you admire their style.

Yeah, it's actually kinda neat how you can see their "signature" style of art. I mostly watch the speed art, but sometimes I go to Pixiv.net (A Japanese site that I really like, you just have to translate the page) and watch some artists there in real time/live stream.

I agree. :) I have watched a few livestreams before, it is pretty cool to see how people draw. I wish I had the tools to livestream myself; it would be fun to try!
