Eternal life to a Mormon is exaltation to godhood.

"To be exalted, we first must place our faith in Jesus Christ and then endure in that faith to the end of our lives. Our faith in Him must be such that we repent of our sins and obey His commandments.

"He commands us all to receive certain ordinances:

  1. We must be baptized.
  2. We must receive the laying on of hands to be confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  3. Brethren must receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and magnify their callings in the priesthood.
  4. We must receive the temple endowment.
  5. We must be married for eternity, either in this life or in the next.
  6. In addition to receiving the required ordinances, the Lord commands all of us to:
  7. Love God and our neighbors.
  8. Keep the commandments.
  9. Repent of our wrongdoings.
  10. Search out our kindred dead and receive the saving ordinances of the gospel for them.
  11. Attend our Church meetings as regularly as possible so we can renew our baptismal covenants by partaking of the sacrament.
  12. Love our family members and strengthen them in the ways of the Lord.
  13. Have family and individual prayers every day.
  14. Teach the gospel to others by word and example.
  15. Study the scriptures.
  16. Listen to and obey the inspired words of the prophets of the Lord.
Finally, each of us needs to receive the Holy Ghost and learn to follow His direction in our individual lives.
Chapter 47: Exaltation
Covenants are made in the temple that must also be kept.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

John 3
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Can we make our new birth happen? Or does the Spirit decide? Where does faith come from?

I was always taught that you are born again when you accept Jesus into your heart.

...Up until you find yet another "Good Christian" sinning in God's name by slandering you, your beliefs, and everything else.

Then it's a matter of splitting hairs with their buddies about whether or not the person so slandering you is even doing anything wrong (after all, he's bashing a "cult" in God's name), and if so whether it means they were actually saved to begin with.

Yeah.

This is ACTUAL Mormon beliefs on the requirement for salvation. The OP here is talking about something else.

Other great verses are John 3:16, Matthew 22:36-40, John 14:15, and James 2:17-18.

Yeah.
It seems you are suggesting that if "yet another "Good Christian"" does these things they will lose their salvation??

I wonder if being overly dramatic to the point of falsifying the truth will cause one to lose their salvation...

Jane is talking about being resurrected to any other life --- not with God. What she's calling salvation isn't salvation at all.

I was always taught that you are born again when you accept Jesus into your heart.

I base my beliefs on the following:
Titus 3
3For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

John 3
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

My faith came from God.

Romans 8
9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

1 Corinthians 2
14But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

I was perishing, but Jesus set me free when God gave me faith.

1 Corinthians 1
18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

2 Timothy 2
24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

What I discussed earlier (post #7) is what LDS view as being important to living forever, beyond your wildest dreams happy, spending eternity with some crown of glory with God. If you want to talk about different crowns, we can, but it needs to be established that we are NOT talking about salvation or anyone burning in Hell forever.

The point is that we (at least Ironhold and I) get really tired of "good Christians" misrepresenting what we believe and relationship with God, and then urging us to be more like them. It is quite tiresome.

Official LDS Doctrine says only those who earn the highest level of the celestial kingdom have eternal life.

The following quotes come from lds.org:

While the resurrection of the dead is certainly an integral part of the plan of salvation, and is unconditional and independent of men’s works, the term salvation as used in the scriptures does not mean physical resurrection alone. As Elder Bruce R. McConkie has pointed out, salvation is synonymous with exaltation:

Salvation in its true and full meaning is synonymous with exaltation or eternal life and consists in gaining an inheritance in the highest of the three heavens within the celestial kingdom. With few exceptions this is the salvation of which the scriptures speak. It is the salvation which the saints seek.” (Mormon Doctrine, 2nd ed., Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1966, p. 670.)
Gerald N. Lund, Salvation:, Ensign, April 1981
Salvation: - ensign

I'm being 100% honest.

Where is the LDS scripture that says those who weren't valiant in their testimony of Christ and are denied eternal life with God will be happy beyond their wildest dreams?

General Conference 2016:
Eternal life is the greatest gift of God and is bestowed on those who “keep [God’s] commandments and endure to the end.”1 On the other hand, eternal life with our Heavenly Father is denied those “who are not valiant in the testimony of Jesus.”2

With all do respect, many of your posts do misrepresent beliefs.

Accusations mean nothing because I don't lie or misrepresent. These posts are not about criticizing other members. We are to love one another and not just those who believe as we do.

Do you want me to abandon my "nonChristian" faith and adopt your "Christian" faith?

I want God's will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

John 13
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

I am allowed to state when post misrepresent LDS beliefs, since that's clarifying LDS beliefs is the purpose of this sub-forum.

A simple 'yes' or 'no' will suffice.

On one hand, we're being told that all one need do to be "saved" is make a profession of faith.

On the other hand, every time we get a two-bit hustler who uses God's name to cover for their sins, we get various mainline Christians try to tell us that this person must not have actually been saved in the first place... in direct contradiction to the whole "profess and be saved!" argument they themselves were just making.

And that's assuming, of course, people aren't trying to justify how it is that what they're doing isn't sin at all if their actions are convenient to the larger "cause" that the person is trying to do.

So yeah - we're kinda getting fed up here.

I didn't come here to convert Mormons. Christians share God's word and God makes the seeds grow. I know that God's choices are the most wonderful in the world.

You say you are clarifying LDS beliefs. I haven't misrepresented LDS teachings. If you don't believe what your leaders and lds.org present as truth, how am I to blame? Arguing with me and griping about my posts doesn't teach people about your religion.
