  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sin is in our very DNA......get over yourselves. Meanwhile I’ll put my faith in His Shed Blood that provides the grace to get me Home....... I hope new Believers hear this next thing loud and clear as it is being said for the umpteenth time....knowing that Gods Grace covers all my sins and that my Salvation is secure, MAKES ME WANT TO SIN LESS!
It’s like this—— Your infant daughter fell into a river....you can’t swim....she is close to Falling over a very high waterfall with nothing but rocks below...she is hopelessly doomed.....without hesitation I risk my own life and jump in and rescue her.How much convincing will you need to do something nice for me— out of love and gratitude.Your reactions are not based on fear or obligation. You can never pay me back fully or do all the things for me I may think I am entitled to because of my deed , but it is unlikely I will steal your child and throw her back in the river.I hope this analogy helps somebody.

1. If anyone would COME AFTER me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and FOLLOW me.— Luke 9:23

2. If anyone would COME AFTER me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
For whoever would save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.
For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?
For what can a man give in return for his life? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation,
of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed
when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.— Mark 8:34-38

3. It shall not be so among you. (believers)
But whoever would be great among you_ must be your servant,
and whoever would be first among you _must be your slave,
even as the Son of Man came
not to be served _but to serve, and
to give his life as a RANSOM FOR many.—
Matthew 20:26-28

4. And Jesus, looking at him, LOVED him, (the rich young ruler inquiring about "eternal life")
and said to HIM,
“YOU lack one thing:
GO, SELL all that you have and GIVE to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven; (rewards)
and COME, ...FOLLOW ME.”— Mark 10:21

5. Blessed are you
when people hate you and
when they exclude you and
revile you and
spurn your name as evil,
on account of the Son of Man!— Luke 6:22

6. Therefore I tell you,
do not be ANXIOUS about your LIFE,
what you will eat or what you will drink,
nor about your body, what you will put on.
Is not LIFE more than food, and the body more than clothing?
(BODY / SOUL / SPIRIT?) — Matthew 6:25

7. Not everyone who SAYS to me,
"Lord, Lord,"
will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but the one who DOES the WILL of my Father who is in heaven.
On that day (Great White Throne Judgment?) many will say to me,
"Lord, Lord,
did we not prophesy in your name, and
cast out demons in your name, and
do many mighty WORKS in your name?
And then will I declare to them,
I never knew you;
depart from me, you WORKERS of lawlessness.— Matthew 7:21-23
(WILL of the Father? BELIEVE...then FOLLOW?)

8. Matthew 10....Jesus to The Twelve Disciples...Instructions for Service...The COSTS!
And do not fear those who kill the BODY
but cannot kill the SOUL.
Rather fear Him (GOD! not satan?)
who can destroy both soul and body in hell.("lake of fire?")— Matthew 10:28

9. (believers)
Whoever exalts himself (on earth?) will be humbled (in heaven?), and
whoever humbles himself (on earth?) will be exalted.(in heaven?— Matthew 23:12

(Judgement of the Believers' Works?_1 Corinthians 3: 10-15 ; 2 Corinthians 5 : 6-10)

10.If anyone COMES to me and
does not HATE (detest)
his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters,
yes, and even his own life,
he cannot be my disciple.— Luke 14:26

1 Thessalonians 5:22 KJV
Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Everyone seems to read that as to avoid anything that may look to someone else like it is a sin. (even if it actually is NOT) Our Lord violated that concept all the time. But He avoided every form evil appeared as.

I take this to mean as dressing up or grooming oneself in such a way so as to look like one is a part of a satanic cult or something similar. Christian hardcore bands would be an example of how not to dress. They imitate their secular counterparts in glorifying death not only in just the way they dress, but in their music, too. We are supposed to be representatives of Christ's kingdom and the way we groom ourselves and dress is a way of reflecting the light we desire to shine unto others. If we are dressed in a way that scares others, that is not something God desires for us to do because are to love others.

You said:
Matthew 5:28 NASB
but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

In the context, our Lord was discussing the true meaning behind the 10 commandments, and the word "lust" epithumeo, was used in the LXX as translating "covet." That means to desire to take away something that belongs to someone else (hence the use of "adultery" instead of "fornication") It is wanting and planning to take away someone's wife and making her YOUR wife.

It is NOT just having a random sexual thought or fantasy, finding any woman as "sexy," or even becoming aroused for no reason.

Yeah, I am not buying that one. Nowhere does the text say such a thing. It doesn't say that they are in danger of hellfire if they are seeking to make another their wife. That is YOU adding such words to the text. Jesus says very plainly that if you look upon another in lust, you are in danger of hellfire. That's it. It's that simple. You either believe Jesus's words here or you don't believe them.

I even heard some who propose the ridiculous idea that it is okay to look at others in lust as long as you are not married because the word "adultery" is used here. However, the point of Matthew 5:28-30 is showing that sin begins in the mind. If you hate your brother, you are like a murderer and no murderer has eternal life abiding in him (1 John 3:15). In other words, one can fornicate with another in their mind.

In fact, what is the difference between lusting after a woman with one's thoughts and looking at porn? Are they not almost the same thing? Do you think porn watching is of God? Come on now.

"I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?" (Job 31:1).

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." (1 John 2:16).

"Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children" (2 Peter 2:14).

1 John 1:7 says if we walk in the light as He (Christ) is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

So we have to walk in the light (obey His commandments) in order to have the blood continually cleanse us. Compare 1 John 1:6-7 with 1 John 2:3-4.

Paul says be ye angry and sin not (Ephesians 4:26).
Jesus says to two people to sin no more (John 5:14) (John 8:11).
Peter says,
"Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God." (1 Peter 4:1-2).

Jason0047:
What can a man do on his own to change his sinful nature and stop sinning?

A man on his own alone can do nothing. Only God can ultimately change a person to stop sinning if they submit to Him and His Word. There are different ways to overcome sin according to God's Word but most do not want to hear it because they prefer sin instead of righteousness.

Why quibble on these various rules and stipulations....let’s get down to the real nitty-gritty.we are to be perfect even as He is perfect .This makes the debate on adultery seem like small potatoes. How can one be perfect?

Faith without works is dead..............the granddaddy of them all
Absolutely, ignore the entire argument of Paul in Romans and numerous other letters. Then quote one verse in James, and create an overwhelming doctrine of works based on that one verse. While simultaneously ignoring the entire context of what James is talking about.

Faith plus works, is the gravity defying greatest doctrine of them all.

Jesus gave us two commandments...love God and love your neighbor

Actually, He gave us a lot more than that. 1 John 3:23, and Matthew 19:17-19. Note: Yes, i am aware that loving your neighbor fulfills the moral law (See Romans 13:8-10); But they are also exist as individual laws as a part of loving others. Also, there is the Command of repentance in Acts of the Apostles 17:20, as well.

And there is the following commandment from the followers of Jesus (that appears to disagree with your idea that we always sin):

"Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us." (2 Thessalonians 3:6).

Right. So how on Earth do you not see the "We can break God's laws and still be saved" type belief as not turning God's grace into license for immorality as mentioned in Jude 1:4? Even if Jude 1:4 was not talking about believers, why condemn something that believers do? It makes no sense.

Faith is also ultimately towards God and not men. Jesus says we are to do works in secret before the Father. This is faith in action. Paul says to the Philippians that they have obeyed not only his presence but also in his absence. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Faith is not an outward show to just men. There is no faith that is exclusive to just men. Faith is in part how we are saved. Faith is the vehicle God chooses for us so that we can access grace. But if our faith is dead because we have no works, then we cannot access the saving grace of God (Which is a gift).

No one is talking about a license to sin.

We are talking about a living faith, an active faith, faith and love.

If someone is in need in your church, do you turn your back on them?

Let's cut to the chase. Do you believe that a believer can die in one or two unrepentant sins (like lying, lusting after a woman, or hating) and still be saved?

Of course you do. But how do you not see that as turning God's grace into a license for immorality as told to us in Jude 1:4? How is that warning any different than from what you just acknowledge to me here?
