  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Nothing is wrong with them. But Haitians and ALL immigrants bring much of what they are leaving behind. As a country we have to ask ourselves if we really want to be more like Haiti.

I think its silly that whether we think the immigrant is nice or not matters to our overall policy.

That’s just silly..

Are you “more like” Ireland? Are you more like Italy? More like Poland? More like sub-Saharan Africa?

As with my country, yours has been largely formed by immigrants from all over the world. And yes, they bring “part of what they left behind”....so what?

So does all the senseless massive debt, senseless killing and rapidly degrading infrastructure in the US qualify it to be one of those shole countries too? (Reminds me of quite a few other countries I've visited over the years).
i know people who say that.

I dont. See, im a big fan of "nuance". I think its hyperbolic and impossible to suggest an entire functioning country can be a shole

It's the government that causes a country to be a shole, but it's the people who live there that allowed it to happen.

Some of the people are good folks, they know they made a mistake but they're are sticking around trying to remedy the problem. Then there are others who helped create that mess that are running away, hiding and doing nothing to remedy the situation.

I'm curious as to why a leader would want those who can't handle adversity to come into their country and help create another mess, doesn't make sense.

And there are some that have essentially been pillaged by first world countries of their labour and resources; pitted on against another.

Wow!

Now we blame all of a country for the desolation caused by a dictator.

Blame the poor, the weak, the sick and the imprisoned!

This goes back to the actual word that was used. I don't actually have a problem with the S-word and honestly don't mind the president using it in casual conversation but to say that both of them used the word in the same way would be disingenuous. Obama was talking about the situation in a war zone while Trump deliberately referred to people's home countries as being S-holes. That's not the same thing.
He dropped an S bomb. You know it, Lindsey Graham knows it, I know it and I think most of his supporters know it.
The US had thousands of US military personnel in Africa. Local support is vital. How stupid can it be to insult our partners?
