@Kelly McArthur thank you for the response! I think you are probably right, even though it is tough to admit. But let me throw this out there, and @Kenny'sID I'd like you to weigh in on this as well.

Two hypothetical people - we'll say Ryan and Sally. Ryan spends his whole life evangelizing, studying scripture, praying, sharing the good news, 100% heart for the Lord. At night, Ryan likes to come home and smoke a bit to relax and go to sleep. Sally on the other hand spends her whole life of the world, striving to make money, being busy with temporal things, never goes to church, never in the word, rarely prays and only when she is in trouble but she does not smoke weed. In the Lord's eyes, who lived the "better" life. Would you still say Ryan goes to hell because he smoked?

I recommend you start a thread. Getting into this here will completely hijack this thread. I know that's not your intention, but I've seen it before. If you don't wan to start a thread do a search for OSAS or whatever terms you can think of. This is one of the most debated issues here, and if you can't find any threads by searching, let me know.

As to your question there, I won't answer it here but you are doing as many have and are styling a scenario that you think backs your end of this, but it does not. Things like that are splattered all over the threads, but they don't change what the bible says.

Again, start a thread, if it's that important to you, and IMO, it should be that important to you..

Ryan is working the right direction and yet living a secret life; evangelizing during the day and at night smokes weed. Ryan doesn't want anyone to know he smokes because he might be judged for his actions, after all, if Jesus is so great, why the weed? Ryan justifies himself in that he feels he has 100% heart for the Lord and just a little love for the weed. Ryan knows Sally and thinks if she smoked weed she'd come to know Jesus better.

Ryan decides to come clean:

A. Ryan takes his weed into his days and says Jesus loves you and I smoke this to sleep and relax.

B. Ryan decides to stop smoking weed to fill the void and ask's Jesus to help him relax and sleep at night.

Sally is straight up no secrets, is hard worker and doesn't want to become a dependant. She knows God is there & she prays when she needs help and doesn't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Sally knows Ryan and thinks if he just stopped smoking weed, he'd be more believable.

A. Sally decides to come clean; she admits she's working a lot and only prays when she's in trouble.

B. Sally decides to stop working so much to fill the void and asks Jesus to be her Lord and saviour.

How would this passage play into this topic?

From Colossians 2:
20 If with Christ tyou died to the uelemental spirits of the world, vwhy, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 w“Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (xreferring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to yhuman precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in zpromoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are aof no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

First of all, depression is usually treated and not cured. The goal is maintenance at a functional level with medical and cognitive treatments. Same with most psychiatric diagnosis and many medical ones (diabetes, heart failure, kidney failure, etc...most are not cured but treated).

And doctors can give wrong diagnosis...even good doctors. And not every medication works the same way on different people.

However, for something to be considered a valid medical treatment, there has to be evidence that it works and it needs to be evident in a double blind form of study with adequate sampling so that the placebo effect is minimized or eliminated. Someone saying "I'm cured", does not mean they are cured. The problem with narcotic is they hide medical issues and make the brain believe it feels good. Being on a happy high does not mean that you are cured of anything but a sense of reality. However, it also distorts your judgement and makes you dangerous to yourself and those around you (please don't drive a car high, for example...or operate on me...).

And be careful before you assume that your health care provider has never experience depression or anxiety. Putting a perfect newborn baby in a body bag....performing unsuccessful CPR on a person you just were talking to...finding out that charming person you just admitted has a body full of cancer with no hope of treatment...and the extreme feelings of not being able to help people no matter how hard you try, is a cause of depression, the kind that needs treatment, in many healthcare providers.
Sometimes mental health patients who declare themselves to be 'cured' or 'feeling fine' will then take themselves of prescription meds and it sometimes leads to a lot of problems, relapses, etc.

Jesus is for you, he's your Father & you are his son; the word seed in Hebrew means son. I'm concerned about mental health & I don't want to see anyone in trouble. I'm a mom & we tend to not want our children doing any drug.

Paul went through some difficult times as you might imagine; his family probably thought he went off the deep end yet he learned by the things which he suffered. The writer tells us that no matter what state he was in, he learned to be content.

Philippians 4:11 - 13

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

What about all of the other things that get people "high"? Are they morally wrong as well?

Running/excessive exersize.
Caffeine.
Gambling.
Shopping.
Eating.
Religion.
Hoarding.
Opioids.
Cocoa.
Tobbacco.
Sex.
Super hot peppers.

The term "getting high" really has to do with feel-good chemicals in the brain being released. Each person has their thing they do that seems to make them happy.
Over time people try different things and do the ones that net them the most satisfaction. Is that evil? Is it immoral? Is it wrong?
Is it all about the substance/action or is it evil to ever feel happy with the aid of an action or substance?
Can we pick and choose which of the above is morally acceptable based on social acceptance or is it all the same thing?

My gut feeling on this is that most of us have potential brain chemical deficiencies and certain actions or substances balance it all out.

Marijuana, like everything is made by God, this idea that God somehow didn't know what would happen if the plant so happen to light on fire is non-sense. I 100% support the use of medical marijuana.
