Jesus himself specified that his believers could do the works he was doing. I have spent a lot of time around Christians, and I've never seen these works in action.

It's a lot of Bible study, church attendance, praying for things, biblical discussion, laboring for the gospel. But sadly no power's to be, and for me this lack of demonstrated spiritual abilities turns me away.

Hello :) I am sorry that the lack of demonstrated spiritual abilities of Christians turns you off. Jesus shows his powers in different ways. I find that his powers show gently. I hope Jesus shows you some of his gentle powers.

Well he was referencing spreading the good news of Gods love, though not many Christians do that as it is.

In the terms of Him saying that we'll do greater things, most people would agree that he was talking about in quantity, greater quantity, as in the church body (Christians) spreading the news of Christs arrival to the entire world.

Also yea, the power of the Holy Spirit shines through true believers, and this is perhaps the most powerful evidence of Christs abilities that we can see.

From your POV, what were those "works?" What are those "spiritual abilities?" Thanks!!

I never expected todays Christians to be able to perform miracles. In fact I'm very suspicious of any who claim they can. Not to say I don't believe miracles can happen, just that performing miracles is not a prerequisite to being Christian or validating the existence of God.

What does that have to do with your sin, your enmity with God, and Christ being the only means of salvation for you?

If men are keeping you from Christianity, then you've just made an idol of man.

I too think it is sad. I won't let others unbelief turn me away though.
I think it sad that under the Old Covenant people could be healed of whatever disease. They just had to find a prophet of God and do what he said. There were even prophets who raised the dead.
In fact people who sought doctors God was not pleased with them.
2 Chr 16:12 And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.

But today we are told God does not do miracles like He did in the O.T. because we have the Word of God.
We are told God gave us doctors for our healing.

The reason you don't see what you are looking for, is because you do not seek the things of God. The things you described : study, prayer, laboring for the gospel; are the miracles. are rather indicative of God's influence. Someone else is and has been Praying to God on your behalf for your non-believing soul, whether your grandmother, maybe a sibling. That is a miracle. Studying the Word of God himself, is a gift that I feel privileged to be able to do. Seek ye first, the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and these things shall be added unto you. Your own pride turns you away. God doesn't fit in the box you've designed. God doesn't turn you away. You're turning away from him. But he keeps calling you back, which is why you are here on a Christian website.

I doubt that, if you read the bible in it's entirety, it specifically points out that God's people have unatural abilities. Abilities that defy logic and reason, abilities that can only come from God himself.

Have had miracles from God in my life and times that He has warned me of danger, plus more situations that allowed me opportunity to speak the Gospel in public.
If Christians really had supernatural gifts, it would be blatantly obvious to the rest of the world by now.

We have the ability to love our enemies. We have the ability to lay down our life for our friends. These things defy logic. They defy self-preservation laws. We want to give our own well being to help others. We believe in eternal life. This world teaches us these things are not real. God shows us otherwise in a real and tangible way.
