  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Discussion on the topic of evolution - Who believes what?

Hitler was an evolutionist btw
Yup ... and Satan had him write My Struggle as a sequel to Darwin's, The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.

In my opinion.

I'm trying to find some statistics on the proportion of Christians who accept evolution, but not having much luck. The best I can find is this Wikipedia article:

Acceptance of evolution by religious groups

It lists these denominations as holding the view of theistic evolution:
Catholic Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Episcopal Church USA, and some other mainline Protestant denominations

Religious Differences on the Question of Evolution (United States, 2007)
Percentage who agree that evolution is the best explanation for the origin of human life on earth
Source: Pew Forum[12]

Buddhist 81%
Hindu 80%
Jewish 77%
Unaffiliated 72%
Catholic 58%
Orthodox 54%
Mainline Protestant 51%
Muslim 45%
Hist. Black Protest. 38%
Evang. Protestant 24%
Mormon 22%
Jehovah's Witnesses 8%
Total U.S. population 48%

Anyone got any better statistics, perhaps for Christianity worldwide. And also I'm pretty sure there are more denominations than the ones listed who officially accept evolution such as Anglican and Orthodox.

Here's a quote from Mein Kampf:

"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord." (p. 65)

Would that 'Almighty Creator' happen to have a name?

Very well meaning Christians have given into to Satan and accepted his lie of evolution, they perish for lack of knowledge. Of course an agnostic or an atheist would never understand, being lost already they love the world and hate God. Why would they not say evolution is correct, since they hearken to the father of lies.

Hey thanks!

Do you need more Hitler quotes relating to his Christian faith? OK:

"My feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. " (Speech given in Munich Apr 12, 1922)

(Now to be fair, I have also heard a lot about Hitler's atheism and he may well have used Christianity as a lever to get people to do immense evil. Which is ironic really. Or it says something quite unsettling.

But it would certainly be in keeping with European Christianity throughout history considering some of the things Martin Luther said about the Jews. I mean some truly awful horrible things.)

Oh so he really did believe in God! I'm starting to think he wasn't so bad after all.

Do you think Hitler would have made chancellor, or Kaiser, or whatever it was he was running for if he had introduced himself as an atheist?

No they don't.

Muslims don't believe in the Old Testament and the historic narratives of Genesis. They believe God created life but they don't make a big deal about it. With a few notable exceptions. It's rare but it does happen. Darwinism is an affront to God as first cause, that much is clear.

Mark, yes they do. Would you like me to show you the stats? Even in the U.S. creationists are a minority. In all the Muslim theocratic countries evolution is banned. The creation story that is taught is usually literal history in schools. Although they have the "days were actually eons" and other interpretations. Even Turkey, which is a secular democracy, that is pretty "liberal" recently banned evolution being taught in schools.

Obviously most Muslims hold the Qur'an above the Bible. Although much of it is the same. The creation stories are a little bit different from each other. Mostly Muslims don't think Adam and Eve caused "the fall". Many more Muslims reject evolution than Christians or Jewish people. That is a fact. And while creationistism is growing smaller in Christianity, is basically dead in Judaism, except for a few odd ultra, ultra orthodox anti-Zion types, it is growing larger in Islam.

I don't know what "Darwinism" is or if there are any deities, so I can't say if it is an affront or not.

Just something interesting that is sorta connected to what we are talking about.

You know how there are Jews for Jesus? Well, there are also Christians for Muhammad, Muslims for Jesus and things like that. They usually don't actually label themselves as such, but I think it would be a correct label. I have seen this especially in countries like Lebanon and Syria.

About 1/3 of Americans believe God made man pretty much like he is today:

(US, Belief in Creationist, Gallup)

38%, an all time low, not exactly a nearly extinct minority.

If I were Jewish or Islamic I might be concerned.

I don't know what "Darwinism" is or if there are any deities, so I can't say if it is an affront or not.

I have defined it repeatedly in the thread. Feel free to browse the thread.

I don't know of a nice way to say this, I don't care. Muslims are not for Jesus and Jews, while a sister religion, are not exactly big on Jesus being their Messiah. Creation is essential doctrine in Christianity, I don't have an opinion regarding other religions.

Some call him "Yahweh".
Some didn't write Mein Kampf though.

I would, however, like to know if both Darwin and Hitler referred to God by the same name.

They probably did not, and why would that matter? Your logic is lacking again.
