Okay Mr. pharisee
"If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." (1 Corinthians 15:19) (KJV).
"If our hope in Christ is good for this life only and no more, then we deserve more pity than anyone else in all the world." (1 Corinthians 15:19) (GNT).
Way to take a verse out of context."If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." (1 Corinthians 15:19) (KJV).
"If our hope in Christ is good for this life only and no more, then we deserve more pity than anyone else in all the world." (1 Corinthians 15:19) (GNT).
The truth is not an insult
Here's a good quote on the tragedy of having the wrong moral priorities:
"I have three things I'd like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don't give a [naughty word]. What's worse is that you're more upset with the fact that I said [naughty word] than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night." - Tony Campolo

It's not my preferences. The Word of God clearly condemns the idea of trying to imitate, roleplay, or make a fantasy out of sinful people or sinful beings. For we see in Matthew 5:28-30 that Jesus condemns a man fantasizing about a woman.
Also, 1 John 2:15 says love not the things in the world. What exactly is your definition of "love not the things of the world"? Do you even have a list of things in the world that you do not love? Or does this verse not even apply to you?
Jesus says, "For the poor always ye have with you;" (John 12:8).
But yes, helping the poor in this life is a salvation issue (Matthew 25:31-46).
But that does not mean we can do other sins and it is okay?
We have to be a holy and separate people.
Even super rich actors help the poor, but that does not mean they are saved.
Making a comparison to an unrelated event doesn't make your point.
As far as loving the world, that word is primarily used when we are told to love other people. Loving our neighbors, wives, brethern, enemies, even the Father loving the Son. The only place I'm aware of where it brings condemnation is when Demas departed from Paul due to his love of this world. This is an overall preference of the world over God, a much broader category than participation in this world.
To make this point, Peter uses the same word in describing how one should conduct themselves if they want to love life and see good days in this world (1 Pet 3:10). He doesn't condemn people for loving their life here. I'll bet you have an issue with that.
My problem is moral crusades against imaginary evil, while ignoring actual evil. A child dressing as a fantasy witch (which don't exist and never have)
You said:to eat some candy on one night of the year is apparently a grave evil--so much so that there's no shortage of moral crusading, outrage, and ink spilled on the subject. Noticeably less vocal? The moral outrage about the mistreatment of our neighbor that happens all around us every day of the year.
Stop straining at gnats while swallowing a camel.

Deuteronomy 12:29-32
Beware of False Gods
29 “When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land, 30 take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ 31 You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.
32 “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.
God has pretty much addressed stuff like this a long time ago, you should not copy the ways of the pagans and try to worship God in the same manner, as it is an abomination to him. Halloween was a pagan Dark Holiday pagan Holiday that a few on here are misleading people of its true origins, just like Xmas and Eater in which the customs were copied and modified and had Jesus name slapped on top of it.
You should stop and ask, where did this custom come from, why Im choosing Oct 31 of all days on the calendar to dress up in costumes (Good or Bad ones) and beg for candy
While I believe God calls us to put away our love for the world and it's things, I am going to go with Halloween, and the secular version of Christmas and the secular version of Easter as being forbidden.
Halloween is clearly at the top of the list as being the most Satanic.
Why a Christian would want to have anything to do with this day is beyond me.
In fact, I believe Christian ministries should not put forth Halloween tracts or set up Hell houses at their church or anything to associate with this dark and evil day. God calls us to be holy and separate.
Christmas with Santa and a tree with lights, etc. is the secular version of Christmas. I also do not think that giving should be just on one day of the year but we should be freely giving all the time. Granted, this is hard to do but are love should not be forced by some holiday that comes once a year. We should love naturally every day.
Easter involving the celebration of a bunny with baskets full of chocolate is the celebration of fertility. There is no denying that. We as believers should stick to celebrating the resurrection of Christ and not imitate the secular things of this world. Granted, I believe we as believers should strive to be holy and separate and not imitate the world in any way, but it takes time for believers to mature in Christ.
I'd say you're probably pretty well on target there, but separating some from things like that would mean a lot of kicking and screaming, if you could do it at all.
Heck some Christians think it's OK to sleep around or actually do whatever they want, and they're still good to go, so things like that, they aren't going to think twice about doing.
Yes, I have argued Christians here at CF who think that inappropriate content is not a sin.

Okay. Stop right here. You are saying that witches don't exist and never have existed? That is totally false and a lie. God's Word condemns sorcery or witchcraft in both the Old and New Testaments. So clearly you are in error, my friend.
People are sacrificed on Halloween every year. They die on that day.
