What did Jesus mean when he said "few will be saved?" There are billions of Christians out there! Christianity is the largest religion in the world! So surely many will be saved? What are we missing? Discuss.

Luke’s gospel is aimed at unbelievers so I think it is urging seekers to be serious and not just join for benefits and status. Following Christ is dangerous both then and today. Lots of people give Him lip service and worship Him the way they want using practices from all over the place instead of how He says He wants to be worshipped, He wants followers who are moulded like Him and are true in their hearts not just outwardly impressive, He wants to see fruitfulness not emptiness. There are a lot of false professing Christians out there who are in denial.

This probably means that it is best not to be a part of the largest religion in the world. The way is narrow, and few there be that find it. Then again, how many people are looking for it? It is easier being content being a part of the largest religion in the world and waiting for the end of the world.

Many will be called but few chosen. That is what it means. How many people made in into the promised land out of the 40,000? Take the same percentage for the supposed Christians of today and what figure do you come up with? Why? Luke 13:27; 2 Corinthians 11:13

Need a chapter and verse reference.

I don't think that there are "billions of Christians".

And Christianity is most certainly not the "largest religion in the world". Idolatry is the largest religion in the world, not Christianity.

There are MANY people who are Christian in name only. In some cases it is because they think that sense the grew up in a Christian household they are Christians or maybe because they lived in an area that was mostly Christian, yet they spend their whole lives playing church playing Christian. Not all people who claim Christ are true Christians.

Narrow is the way. Strait (not "straight") is the gate. Matt 7.14

Some believe it is very narrow. A woman leader at the church Bishop Joseph Garlington grew up in said that in her study only about 7 or 8 people from all of time would actually get into heaven. (not even all of the apostles)

I am not sure how that accounts for the "myriads" (tens of thousands) of observant Jewish believers in Acts 21.20; or the crowd that was beyond number in Rev 7.9.

True Christians that is to say that they follow Christ and His will and try to live like Him. It does not mean they are sinless, but there are working on it more and more each day, as opposed to playing Christian claiming to be a Christian because it fits and you are expected to be one going through the motions, but not knowing Christ on a personal level.

That of course far from means that only eight will be saved from all time, however.

1Peter 3:20; only 8 were saved from the flood in the days of Noah? What does that tell you? Percentage?

But surely all who believe in Jesus will be saved? After all Paul said "all who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved." when Jesus said few will be saved did he just mean only a small percentage of the world will believe in him? Like, there are billions of Christians right? Out of those billions only a small percentage of them rely on Jesus for salvation? And compared to everyone born into the world that number is small?

It means as is. You better believe the Truth. A watered down truth is as deadly as lies.

Tells me nothing in terms of how many will be saved and covered by Jesus' blood.

Just because they claim to know Christ does not mean they do.

Only eight people? But didn't Jesus say all of his sheep will have Eternal life? So it cannot just be eight people.
