Do the Father or Spirit teach things contrary to scripture?
No, I think that is how you "test" the spirit, cause you bound to run into some imposters...

Did Jesus teach the law and the prophets of scripture?

Yes, throughout scripture Jesus refers to the law and the prophets without fail.

Did Jesus endorse people live by the law and the prophets?

Well, if he taught it, he expected obedience to it, otherwise he would be no different to the Pharisees who taught it, yet didn't follow through themselves, with what they taught.

Jesus gives us the story of the rich man and Lazarus and we see the emphasises at the end, for the knowledge of the truth and salvation for the rich man's brothers placed solely on Moses and the prophets. Since Moses and the Prophets were not present in the flesh, their written and oral dictation of their writings were.

So it is clear as day that Jesus expected the living to abide and live by them.
So my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ in order that you might belong to another to him that was raised from the dead in order that we might bear fruit for God.
For when we were controlled by the sinfull nature, the sinfull passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies so that we bore fruit for death.
But now, by dying to what once bound us we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not the old way of the written code
Rom7:4-6

Paul was a scholar and theologian.
I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

That is not a condemnation of scholars, especially biblical scholars. The anti-entelectualism in the church today is maddening.

Shortly after the passing of the Apostles, along came scholars and theologians, eagerly pouring over the scriptures, ever searching to unearth new, hidden truths that would become doctrines Christians must follow.
The greatest power and most rapid growth ever seen in the Christian church was before the emergence of such people, not afterwards

There is no Christianity without thought. The gospel is news, not experience.

One wonders how the NT church flourished as it did. They didn't have at their disposal, the doctrines that were later to emerge from scholars and theologians who came after them

Have you read the New Testament?

Love Pauls letters:

Do not deceive yourselves. If anyone of you thinks he is wise by the standard of this world he should become a fool so that he may become wise.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in Gods sight. As it is written: he catches the wise in their craftiness.
And again. The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise are futile

Yes. Paul's words are wise.

What is sin? Why should I care? How does it impact the world? How does it impact one's life?
Sin is the transgression of the law
1john3:4

The world's sin is unbelief in me
John 16:9

Would you have to read a theological book to get the answers to your questions?

Jesus held to the idea that scripture, not church office-holder, is the ultimate authority for the believer, so why don't you?
So...... Should we only listen to our blessed Lord, the second person of the one God, when He is quoting from scripture? What was the point of His incarnation? It is my understanding that firstly the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. We are told in the book of John that Jesus said and did so many things that were it all written down, the whole world couldn't contain all the books. There are some important and deep conversations that should take place between the Church and the protestant reformers, but sola scripture, I'm afraid isn't one of them really. Just a cursory study of the origin and history of the New Testament, as well as the fact that it doesn't even hold up to the first glaring test. That the scriptures don't teach sola scriptura, but rather that Jesus is Lord, should disabuse anyone that sola scriptura is a valid dogmatic principal. I am truly baffled that there are still any protestants who still hold to this odd proposition. I truly mean no disrespect, but the impossibility of at least this particular sola started me on my reluctant, but ultimately rewarding journey to Rome.

Blessings,
Steve

No.

The passage you (mis) quoted is regarding church discipline.
Hmm..... I believe the poster simply cut and pasted scripture directly into a post. How is that a misquote?
